My great great uncle and his brother-in-law -- both Afro-Indigenous Narragansett-Pequots -- fought for the Connecticut 29th.

That’s awesome you can trace back! We’re doing a showing at New Haven Juneteenth with the Descendants of The 29th!

Lincoln was impressed when he first met Frederick Douglass. He knew a black man could be well cultured and well educated. He met with Douglass on other occasions on how to move forward.
Douglass suggested the black man will be the hardest fighter. He knows his own freedom is on the line.

Hello. You should make a film about the Mexican War of 1846 someday.

I look at the massive southern half of the united states'that the confederacy tried to cease this for themselves and made Richmond va their capital i am beyond words to find out that the all black 29th Connecticut usct were the first of all united states troops to enter Richmond va with a tear running down my face I have questions how could ken burns omitt this in his civil war series or why he omitted it and how come I was never thought this in school we were clearly written out of the history books

We made this to be teachable moment about an aspect of history few are aware of, notably in our hometown of Berlin, CT. #berlinct #berlinconnecticut

And it was a Republican president and later President Grant that were the first civil rights presidents. Not Democrats.

It would correct to state this fact - however over the last 50 years the parties have effectively switched positions (thanks largely to Nixon's campaign's in 1968 and 1972). It is incorrect to suggest that the modern Republican party is the party of civil rights that its forbearer was.
