Steven Wilson - Drive Home (4K Remaster)

- This year marks the tenth anniversary of my third album The Raven that Refused to Sing. Back then I was remixing the classic seventies music of progressive rock bands King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, and Jethro Tull on an almost daily basis, so my head being full of their music the album became a sort of homage to that style and era. A somewhat nostalgic trip then, but one I’m still very proud of. The album was recorded mostly live in the studio at East West in Los Angeles with my amazing band at the time; Adam Holzman, Nick Beggs, Guthrie Govan, Theo Travis and Marco Minneman, and engineered by the legendary Alan Parsons, who gave it a really golden sound.
The second song on the album Drive Home was based on an original story and characters created by artist Hajo Mueller, later adapted for a beautiful animated video by Jess Cope, which in turn was developed into the computer game The Last Day of June (released by 505 games). The song features a remarkable first take guitar solo by Guthrie.
A new collaboration with Jess for my forthcoming album The Harmony Codex is in the works, which I can’t wait to share with you! In the meantime enjoy a new improved version of the original Drive Home video, expertly remastered and visually improved for its tenth anniversary by colourist Mozart Gabriel.
Crying now in 4K
One of the best guitar solos ever recorded.
Correction, THE best solo ever!
how did I forget?❤❤❤❤
Agreed!
Guthrie is an inspiration.
THE best guitar solo ever recorded
Steven wilson really doesn't get a whole allot of credit from the national music industry. He created such amazing chord progressions and his lyric writting is just inspiring. I admire this man so much.
Love this song and Guthrie's solo is probably one of the best ever.
Definitely up there with some of the best guitar solos like Firth of fifth for that emotional vibe it gives off.
It has been about ten years after my loved one had passed away, when I heard this song for the first time. I could not believe that someone else, who did probably not happen to suffer such a catastropy himself, would be able to express my state of mind then so perfectly - "...while the darkness always ends you're still alone..." - so drive home and try to make sort of a life.... 18 years have passed since the disaster occured, I'm high in my sixties, and really, I'm usually not very close to tears, but this is still the song to let them flow again. Drive Home is not just great music, it's overwhelmingly great poetry as well!
This album is truly a masterpiece.
Absolutely.
It's been said before, but Guthrie's solo deserves UNESCO World Heritage status!
Just pure Magic!! Wow! Ive listened and seen the original like 37 times. Showed to my daughters and I said ” This is a true Artist”. Gothries solo still gives me goosebumbs. Just downloaded Hans Zimmers live stuff cause he is there. Steven you are one of the big fours. Since Porcupine… to your solo stuff. Mozart and the big guns would have loved you. I am so thankful I am alive in the era where you make music❤️🤘
Best guitar solo in history and it only took one take. Guthrie is an absolute legend.
Everytime I lament that there is no great music anymore, all I need to do is play a Steven Wilson song and I fully restored.
This was a great period for you Steven. This song and Routine are a couple of the most beautiful, sad, provocative, emotional pieces I have heard in music.
With maybe more to come this year?
With his up and coming new album.
Don't forget The Raven That Refused To Sing!
The greatest Steven Wilson song ever written and my all time favourite
5:08 the finest guitar solo ever delivered 🎸
From Steven Wilson yeah !
My personal favourite ever is the Pulse live of Comfortably Numb.
@@-lazarus-nah
This music invokes a certain melancholic feeling within me, some sort of solace enveloped within loneliness. I get transported to a time when I did not have a partner, yet I used to feel at loss. Today, 8 years later, I got out of a 4 year old relationship 2 years ago. Now this song makes me weep from within. I love that I hate that I love this piece of art!!
One of the most emotional songs ever written......
One of the greatest records of the 2010s and truly does not get the recognition it deserves.
not crying...just got the greatest guitar solo of all time in my eye ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
This is my favorite song from the album. I bought 'The Raven that Refused to Sing' in multichannel surround hi-res audio. It sounds amazing! Brilliant album! The guitar solo near the end performed by Guthrie Govan is amazing. More people need to hear this song.
El solo de Govan es sublime, pinta con emoción la historia que va contando la canción.
One of the best music ever made. Thank you Steven Wilson. I hope the vinyl will arrive in France ❤
Cold windowpane
A car upturned in the rain
Wait on in vain
Don't try to bear the blame
Deal with the pain
Dust down your wings again
You need to clear away
All the jetsam in your brain
And face the truth
Well love can make amends
But while the darkness always ends
You're still alone
So drive home
Pause without end
A moment in time suspends
How could she leave?
Release all your guilt and breathe
Give up your pain
Hold up your head again
You need to clear away
All the jetsam in your brain
And face the truth
Well love can make amends
While the darkness always ends
You're still alone
So drive home
Drive home
Drive home
Drive home
Drive home
Drive home
Drive home
Drive home
Drive home
Dang! Didn't know this guy existed until tripping across this. Like early Genesis, Renaissance resurrected. But freshened up, with a bit of polish. If he comes to Sydney, I'll be there. With bells on!!
Forever grateful to have been born in an era where this exists. Such a gift brought into our world.
One of the best songs and best solos I've ever heard! But also, whole album is amazing!
This is art and touching your soul everytime you hear it
Words can't describe how beautiful and emotional this piece of art is ❤ thank you Steven Wilson
Beautiful song! Steven Wilson is a great musician! He surrounds himself with other great musicians and he ends up with these type of masterpieces! I can’t wait to hear Harmony Codex on my turntable
What a moment to be alive!
10 years after and it still is a fabulous masterpiece. See you in another 10.
Uno de los mejores solos de guitarra del señor Guthrie Govan, y una de las mejores alineaciones de Steven Wilson todo se complementa en esta canción
Ah yes! one of the best songs and music videos and guitar solos, all together in one place

I thank Kevin Moore each day for introducing me to Steven's talent and all the talented people surrounding him. It has been an enormous pleasure to explore his music. The video looks superb in 4k! 👍
I sometimes wonder where Dream Theatre would have progressed if Kevin stuck with them
The best guitar solo ever ❤❤❤
Przepiękny utwór. Uwielbiam kompozycje Stevena Wilsona niezwykle poetyckie, pełne smutku i nostalgii. Prawdziwe arcydzieła. ❤
I lost count but every time i listen to this solo it is consistantly outstanding

At the time of its release, this video was home to come back to, always warm and fuzzy. Almost always got a tear out, the story, the animation and that beauty of a solo. Thank you for the remaster. 🧡

9 years already? damn :O
I still love it ♥
Found Porcupine Tree early 2000s and have been listening to your genius ever since. Always feeling it so much emotion in it.
UA-cam should be sued for interrupting this masterpiece with ads.
Hear Hear.
There is a way to easily get around the ads. You just have to be Brave enough to try it.
Sooooo beautiful!❤ The animation is amazing and the guitar solo is fire 🔥🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸
oh boy, time to cry to this masterpiece again in 4k
Steven is certainly one of the greatest musicians (as in writers, musicians, and producers), of this Century. In my view, as close to a modern day genius as I’ve experienced. And I’m pretty fucking old.
I had not planned to cry today but here I am
Just finished Last Day of June and seeing this music video... phenomenal and emotional. The song absolutely rocks!
Oh god, Guthrie's solo is back and forth blown me away..
Lange nicht mehr gehört - und immer wieder wunderschön...

This definitely give "Comfortably Numb" vibes, and there is no way it wasn't inspired bit the Pulse live version of it :O! Both amazing!

Was at the Royal Albert Hall for the live concert, was a type of eargasm......
If it wasn't for Pandora I probably would have never discovered Steve what beautiful music
Wow!! wow!!!! I have not felt that good from a guitar solo in a long time great song so glad it just popped up while listening to Bowie that’s divine intervention if you ask me
I started to listen this song when I moved my current aparment and still listening for months. As I felt that there is an emotional bond between this song with my apartment I hung painting of this video :)
Steven, please come to Turkey with Guthrie. I must listen that song live :)
That song is in my view still one of Steven's best. (the album is one of my all time favorites).
Note: on the details it says the it's from the album "Drive home", but the album was actully called: "The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories)"
Jess Cope is the greatest animator of all time! Love all of her work, particularly Metal music videos.

One of my favorite songs of all time. Well done, Steven!👏❤
This is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written
Beautiful album, beautiful song, what a masterpiece
I never really paid attention to the video. It left me in tears
I loved revisiting this video (and song) for the first time in quite a while. What a masterpiece -- the song AND the video!
Masterpiece.
More than a storyteller than a musician... Must say!
I recently came across Mr Wilson and then PT. I’m a huge fan of Genesis, Yes, Rush, Talk Talk, etc. However, those bands don’t produce music any more so when I discovered SW and PT I had the same feeling of excitement listening to beautiful new music I once had as a teenager! I’m 62 now. So of course I’ve bought every album.
Thank you Parijat for introducing Steven Wilson in my life. Actually thank you for ever being a part of my life. I know we are estranged for whatever reasons but I promise you, I still treasure everything you've taught me and I am willing to take all of it to my grave. And I will dust down my wings again sooner or later.
Didn't think this could possibly get any better and yet it has!
Pure sonic and visual genius. One to take with you till you go.
The most amazing guitar solo of all modern records
Achingly beautiful...
I’ve always thought that this song is so tragic yet so beautiful.
The colors are so vibrant and the sound is pure bliss
Steven! You make me feel so sad and happy at the same time
Thank you so much to all the people involved on this! Steven, the band, Jess. So perfect!
i used to listen to this song and album a lot, i find it very cohesive and so full of emotion and it stayed with me always💚
Sweet. Just purchased a 4K TV and a Sonos Theater set up. Going to fire this up
The remaster is mind blowing. Ive listened to the original dozens of times. I highly recommend hooking up to a real stereo. Chills!
I had no idea that there was a video game based on this song! This song feels like a gift which keeps on giving! There are so many ways to enjoy the same piece of art ❤
So brilliant, off the best Steven Wilson album (IMHO) SO FAR!! Looking forward to the new material.
Bravo! This adds a new dimension to my mental image of the story behind this song. And of course Guthrie's amazing solo taps into the raw emotion for me.
Quando qualcuno mi chiede chi è l'artista che stai ascoltando rispondo semplicemente "Dio". Domenica prossima sarò in prima fila al concerto di Piazzola sul Brenta. Grazie di esistere Steven.
Incredible song and video to suit.
You can read all of his expressions
The song and video compliment each other perfect and now in 4K....Brilliant. An SW masterpiece that will live on.
The ad placed 4 minutes in really enhanched the listening experience
I saw you last Sunday in Padua with PT. I can't stop listening to your music. Thanks a lot Steven ❤
This music takes me to places I could never thought that exist! Thank you SW!!!
This song is so unique for me, It brings me back a lot of memories in my life. That Robin Guthrie's guitar solo always gives me goosebumps.
