  • I was given this Samsung 65" UHD Smart TV that was found on a Chicago alley. It had a broken LCD panel(part that gives the picture).
    There was no screws holding the outer shell. I removed the trim and broke most of them while doing this. Removed the speakers and the main board(again, no screws) . I was surprised to find, Power unit coming right up when it was plugged to the wall with the main board disconnected. Removed the broken LCD panel and the cables to it. Put the back cover to cover up the power supply and hold everything together. Taped the sides with aluminum tape (Found on HVAC department on hardware store ) .

    I have done 2 of these, 1 Samsung 42" and a Vizio 55". On the Samsung, I removed the input board keeping the power supply board. When I plug in the AC power, it immediately turns on. With the Vizio, I had to leave the input board in and I must use the power switch or the remote to turn it on. How I realized that I needed to keep the input board was having the light on and start unplugging cables. One of them killed the light, so put it back. Since, I wasn't going to try to sell the cards, it didn't matter. I didn't think about it until it was too late, but if you can turn the brightness up to max before removing the LCD board do it.

    So I got myself a 65" UHD Samsung TV just like you and I have tried converting several other brands but they go into standby mode. So to anyone reading this I have tried JVC and Philips and they do NOT stay on, but every Samsung I have tried DOES stay on. I am sure there is a way to keep the other brands on too but Samsung is way easier so stick to them and you will do fine.

      @@chuckfinley5206 There is a chip controlling the PWM of the power supply. The one I am now researching a FA6B20N chip that I believe controls the PWM to power the LEDs, and looking for what's shutting that chip down, over / under current, under /over voltage, a timing circuit one of these issues is it shutting it down down. I'm going to figure what's turning off this chip. I'm keeping the lights on.

    So I found this video and I got the 50" little brother of your TV, I barely removed anything from the inside and it turned itself off after a while, I guess it is the power saving mode when no channel is found. I still have my power button too. I managed to keep the frame the first time I opened it but now I hope it will not break when I have to do it again. '
    I used double sided tape to keep the layers attached to the frame as the "paper" front wants to buckle and fall out. Double sided works fine for anyone reading this. I saw a behemoth of a TV I could pick up, 65" like the one in this video but unless I put it on my ceiling in my living room there is no place for it in my apartment.
    I will re-watch this video tomorrow and use it as a template, its 2.18 am here in Sweden and I am too sleepy for tech :)

    I made one of these using the power circuit board, of the tv, to power the lighting but it would shut off after 10 minutes of no activity, or signal, like a lot of tv's do. so i had to add a separate power supply. Is there a way around that I wonder?

    I got it done, I disconnected anything that did not turn the backlight off and now it turns on and stays on when I connect it to the wall socket. I have attempted this with a JVC and a Philips TV but they turn themselves off. So it seems if you want to make it with ease use a Samsung UHD TV. I have failed with the other brands....

      @JasonBurnettsProfile 3 роки тому +1

      Seriously? You are worried about looking stupid because you don't have money in your account? You'd be stupid to buy a 900$ light fixture--that's stupid. (And besides, you can get a 65" LED TV for about 200.00 online if you look carefully--but that's not what this video was about. Now if you happen to have recently upgraded your TV or broken your old LED TV, why not recycle it into a light for FREE. Nothing stupid about that. Stupid would be tossing it in the trash because it stopped working or you got a new one. This happens all the time. So even if you don't break one, or get a fancy new one. Just keep your eyes open on the side of the road. People toss them all the time. Grab one and try it for FREE.
