I'm planning on setting up wingmen for my fighter, tell it to follow at 100 meters with defensive mode on, then it will follow while shooting at nearby enemies. Then use the signal relay to give alternate command as the situation calls for it, pick a target, focus on certain subsystems, change attack pattern, even set them for kamikazi runs.
I used it to make autonomous drones that would ram into ships at full speed with an armed warhead in front. I also added a timer block to randomly activate the thrusters so it will jitter around to dodge any incoming fire since you cant use an offensive and a defensive at the same time for some silly reason.
They have mentioned in the stream that the next major update will focus more on PVE content. The signal mechanics will play a part in how NPC grids will behave so they will build upon it. You probably won't have actual NPC characters though, they're hard to code for pathfinding their way around player build environments.
I would like if the new console blocks had the Control seat fucntion. Theyre great for decorative interiors but sadly you still need to have one of the older control or flight seats set up to control the grid or go through the remote access.
Sadly on Friday or Saturday they released a patch, which still hasn’t reached xbox users. Making us xboxers unable to connect to multiplayer servers. Including the one I rent.
Any word on the devs adding more factions? I.e. more enemy factions to fight in an offline save. Ive been using mods for a long time but it seems most of them are breaking or have broken recently. Any solution?
still waiting for Auto-Size Gravity Field on gravity generators... guess I'll have to stick with the mod for now. But this is a MUCH needed update. I can build a lot more compact ships since they now have a top and bottom to a passage way.
The Corridor blocks fixes my main complaint with the passage blocks. Mainly that the passage blocks have no floor so require additional blocks to make a tunnel. Such as tunnels concealed in the bottom layer of blocks in the build.
It's really unfortunate that we're limited to a mere 100 channels. Great update though and seeing Xocliw and Marek even more excited about the next one is great to see.
yeah but also it's dependent on antenna range, if you do some finnicky stuff and disable main antennas before sending signal and re-engaging and keeping a secondary ship-wide antenna you can create only ship centered signals which means you don't have to worry about interference on same channels
@@osome6806 yes, but that's not reliable. It's easy to accidentally hop antennas. There are other big drawbacks. Not only is it limiting and not entirely reliable, by having 5-9 digits you can work with prefixes, assigning prefixes to given grids and universal signals. There's also the issue of having to unnecessarily split up grids like railroads to give them separate antennas. What's worse, every single - and completely separate - grid will have to be powered independently. There's a lot more to this and I won't get into it. I had a whole lot of ideas before the update and some experimenting and proof of concepts after. It's limited, that's unfortunate, but oh well. What would make it better? The two main things I would change are the channel range, gives us more. The second change would be giving us more antenna options. For one, the relay block shouldn't need an antenna block to receive a signal. For it to receive a signal, the range of the transmitting antenna has to overlap with the relay block itself. Then there should be an option to ignore antenna hopping. Make it so the given signal only uses its antenna range. Anyway, this isn't just me complaining. I just think a lot of potential was left behind and find it quite unfortunate. It's still usable but some of my ideas are simply impossible because of these restrictions.
@@osome6806 I swear I replied to you but it's gone... Well I basically said that it really is quite restricting so much so that many of my ideas I had before the update came out are impossible. I still think it's a great update, I just wish we had more channels, and more settings in the relay block on how it uses antennas. I was think that the relay block should either be able to pick antennas for transmitting and receiving or it shouldn't need an antenna at all for receiving.
Some one on reddit apparently made one using digital signals for over 1600 channels. I couldn't really say how good of a solution it is tho for I'm still learning stuff about this update.
@@MDK_24_ I'm not certain what you mean but it did make me realise that you might be able to use them in pairs. One sends a "prefix" just like a sub channel on a walkie talkie and the second one sends the actual command. The recieving grid would then only respond to the action if the prefix signal was sent within a few seconds. This still doesn't solve everything and it would be nice if we just had more channels and complexity in general but unless they unlock it with the hotfix, we'll just have to make do and live with the unsolvable limitations.
Im still not finished with updating all ships I use and now there are even mor blocks . Not that I'm not happy about the new blocks, it's just that I can't keep up 😅. Maybe I'm just to slow
Action relay blocks, are these going to cause havok on mp servers? Also, do the grids have to be loaded in by a player? I dont see how these will be compatible with concealment.
Castle will receive a Chat Message saying "Salvage" and he will have a whole Salvage Armada to send in with only one Button. Bad news for Blue Team, you will be castled again
6:43 ok so here is what i think that should happen instead of not only claiming the ship itself but place you as owner for all the operating system like doors, guns, etc. I don't see the reasoning as to why i still need to grind down all the parts that have computers in them.
Can the action relays be used in a long chain? Like could you use it for communication over a long distance and have a building with a switch board like the old fashioned phones?
With the channel relays I wonder if you can make a system where if it's 2 relays on 1 for each it only works if you have both channels on each matching.
Shame the GDA isn't around to have fun with new toys lol. Jokes aside awesome video Jack gotta check out this update with my friend, he's into drones and all that so this update is definitely for him.
The first thing im doing is trying to improve my turret cannons recoil uisng pistons and be able to activate automatically right now it has to be activated manually im hoping to make it fully automatic system so i can have ship triple guns with recoil when hey fire
3:17 I’m currently unable to play, so I want to ask you this question. Does the action relay work for taking control of grids remotely? If so then I’m really glad for this update as it will vastly speed up certain processes for a large scale RP series I’m starting up in a couple months
It works kind of like a manually triggered timer block that works across grids. So if you want to say, open up your stations hangar Bay doors from the cockpit of your ship you can place a relay to receive the command on the station grid and send it via the relay from your ships control seat hotbar. Works for other more complex commands too that's just a simple example.
I got question on item stacking, what would happen if you stack hydrogen/oxygen with certain % remaining would it even out the % with the rest of the bottles or would it set it to 0%? stacking the inventory in cargos is such life saving having to scroll through the huge individual tools, weapons that filling up the slots while trying to find what to look for!
Wouldn't work because they mentioned it's only for non unique items. It's possible that they stack if they are exactly the same percentage, but my guess would be that only the 0% and 100% bottles would stack
Jack does not like the temporary crate after a container gets destroyed.. 🤔 May I happily remind you from your previous series the time you crashed the atmospheric transport blowing up the large cargo container resulting the world to crash at least 2 times! 😁
Trying to get my friends into this game... then they see the 14+ dlc and go "naw" im not dropping 120$ Seriously keen... i get you have been making this for a long time and need new revenue.... but back off a tad, or maybe idk bundle all of these together with the new edition so people actuslly want to try the game
@HalNordmann exactly! I own just about every one and I'm so committed to this game. It holds a special place in my heart. My best friend who committed suicide in 2016 got me into this game. And even after all the emotional attachment I want to put it down and walk away. It just feels like they are sqeezing every penny now
**Jack watches update video.** Jack: I want my team and I to build a cool little base on an asteroid, again, too! **Base = 50% Complete** Jack: Hey, why is the jump drive animati- Jack: *WHERE DID MY BASE JUST GO?!?!?! WHO DID IT?!?!?! WHO!!!!*

Nah,
Make it warp in a fleet

Suddenly Castle somehow sees this on his survival world and joins Jack holding a grinder: *I saw ye say salvage Jack heheeheheh*
I was hoping for new weapons, such as guided missiles and PDC's, or NPC Engineers. But the new consoles are appealing.
For my part i am still hoping for more alien npc:s and blocks and crafts.
@@lionheartgoodfellow3770 that too.
Unfortunately, has to be a mod, use weapons core and a sub weapons pack.

Nah,
Y’all got the wrong idea
Make a signal to warp in a FLEET
So when are you going to put those AI people in Space Engineers? That would be epic.
I wonder if you will be able to use the relay to use cameras wirelessly

It’s being worked on, but it’s a bit complicated :) rest assured I know the team are hard at work on it

Jack: **nervous**
*~Later~*

Great, now you can command your drone swarms without a complicated scripts!

There's no details confirmed but the next major update has been officially announced to be PVE focused. So it may address some of those issues.

So disappointed with the truss blocks. They need the T and X to have an offset version. Only the offset piller can be used with the diagonal piller
