What I respect about Jason's review is that he's totally unbiased towards his own manufacturing compared to the other companies and gives an honest review of the instrument I'm quite impressed that he gave this trumpet a great review and pointed out the instruments good points as well.

As a Courtois Evo II owner, I can wholeheartedly second what Jason just said. I also have a horn with his Venturi Gap Receiver installed, and they are equally awesome. As a recovering Bach Strad player of 20 years, I can safely say that trumpet technology has come a long way.

I had one in matte green when I was in school. It had a matching mouthpiece sleeve. I loved it, but it had some intonation issues. The open Cs weren't in tune, and the low E was very sharp. It was fun while I had it though.

I have heard of some of these with intonation issues and suspect there were different leadpipes used throughout the course of production.

Courtois built these with either a silver plate or matte green finish. This horn in review I personally owned
and had the finish removed. I don't know of any manufacturer that had a finish like that.

Ahhh...thank you for this! This is the exact horn I've been playing since 2001(in the matte finish tho) ! Haven't finished the vid yet, but I'm ready to see the results!

Which mouthpiece do you use with your Evolution II?

I've been using an old Schilke 18 for the last few years. Before that it was a Bach 3c.

I had an Evo IV that I got from Felix Vasser new for $1500. 9 years later I sold it for the same price. I think these Courtois are going for a bit more now. Mine had some of the same traits. The tuning slide was so loose that it would slide out slowly with normal playing. The 3rd trigger fell out a few times because that nylon ball just wasn't strong enough. The gap adjuster always got stuck too. I didn't mess with it much anyway. It was quite heavy, and fairly bright. A good deal of resistance, and I felt locked into a single sound with it. With my Super Recording I have much more freedom of sound color. But thanks for this informative video. It was interesting seeing what changing the gap did.

Zig Kanstul made a setup like that when people asked for it. It was not that popular so they never put it into production.
