  • As you drive along the A50 between Stoke-on-Trent and Ashbourne, you may have noticed a strange castle-like structure in a field alongside the road. Tucked away within the lush grounds of Sudbury Hall, this is a curious and captivating structure known as Vernon's Folly.

    You have to give credit to the workers who built this. What did they do for the foundation? How deep is it? The walls don’t seem to be sinking. Quite amazing.

    I'm in the Southwest of the U.S., so this sort of folly/ruin is especially fascinating. Thank you for going into the history and sharing the old paintings and photos. We have 1800s ghost towns and mines, and abandoned early 20th Century gas stations and roadside diners here in the deserts and mountains. And much less green. :)

    It would make a lovely walled garden.

    What a gem! And I bet wild deer still use it to sleep in and around, and perhaps even to rear their fawns. Beautiful.

    It should be renovated for use in filming & historical education.

    From the narration it seems that it should have been completely enclosed to perform it's function. So was there a wall on the east side and if so at what point was it lost?

    • @TheRedHairedStokie
      @TheRedHairedStokie  15 днів тому +2

      Yes there was, it would have been completely enclosed. There is no record of it being lost, but there is a mention of it being on its side in about the 70s I think.

    This rest of this old world structure is buried, red brick depicts energy plant and storage. May be part of a starfort.

      @@garethlock50 You've got admit even at first glance its looks to be buried, when you research into the subject of buried structures you'll find its far more common than you think. Have a look the latest video by My Lunch Break or Paul Cook on the subject of hidden or buried structures. If you also look into starforts (some of them are absolutely amazing) you'll find there are thousands of them worldwide not that they ever teach you that in school.

      Interesting fact about the Disguising of the Moorish Structure taking place in 1750

    • @russ254
      @russ254 13 днів тому

      this was originally a disembarkation station for spaceships, when white people colonized Moorish England. It’s not as well-preserved as some. For a better example see Windsor Castle.

    It’s disgusting. Offering shelter to an animal so you can kill it.
