  • Hum's You'd Prefer An Astronaut Is a super influential album, and has influenced hundreds of bands, but most specifically, Deftones. Deftones' leader Chino Moreno, listened to the album and it influenced two of Deftones' albums, but most specifically White Pony.

Hum is so incredibly underrated but influential. Bryan St. Pere will be missed… it’s unfortunate we’ll probably never get to see them live again, or hear their unrecorded tracks.

I really hope they do one more tour at least in the states. It would be such a huge fuckin disappointment if Bryan's last record he played on never got to be heard live by anyone. Such a waste. They absolutely know at least one drummer who could fill in for him.

@@chaoticfirearm Yeah, they could always bring Jason Gerken back, I'm sure he still knows some of their discography. I think the closest we'll ever get is maybe a few festival dates... something like dia de los deftones again. I just can't see them doing a full tour since they already rarely did any kind of touring. It's definitely a little frustrating that the band has been completely radio silent (not that it's out of the ordinary for them lol), last time we heard from the band was in 2021 announcing that YPAA and Electra 2000 vinyl would be coming soon (still no updates on that). So I'm not sure anybody really knows about the state of the band... Electra 2000 got removed from streaming a few months ago which is a huge bummer and a red flag. I wouldn't expect anything soon, but it doesn't hurt to keep post notifications on for their social medias... Hopefully in 2023 they'll give us some updates.

Matt Talbott doesn't give himself enough credit, he's inspired me and tons of other people to make music. His talk singing is one of my favorite parts, it adds a meloncholy layer to the sci-fi sound. Stars, I'd like your hair long, and I hate it too are my favorite songs off the album, and I'd consider them "perfect" songs. If you like this, definitely check out Downward is Heavenward, HUMs follow up to YPAA

Don’t forget Matt Talbott’s incredible other band centaur - they only have 1 album (In streams) and also Tim Lashes (also one album) band Glifted (under and in)- and Jeff Dempsey’s National Skyline- I think Inlet is basically the heaviness of centaur with the shoegaze elements of Inlet. Also Matt Talbott has touring the past few years doing very stripped down solo stuff- he’s got some stuff up on band camp

That's so weird, I never listened to any Deftones. Matt's voice was probably one of my favorite things about HUM.

Matt's voice is incredible perfect for HUM's sound. He does not deserve all of that hate for his voice lmao

Eh, personally I feel matt's voice is perfectly suited for Hum's songs, doesn't have to be a "great singer" imo

    • @ahcreative

Yeah but seeing what Chino did with Deftones a better singer would’ve made the songs better, but I think that Matt’s voice works for what Hum was trying to accomplish

@@ahcreative Chino wasn't exactly the best singer himself. I feel if we're gonna go down that path than Pete from Chevelle is really just an improved Chino.
