  • the lights above the window in the Winnebago Revel are way too bright to make them useful as bedroom lights. So in this video, I am doing a little upgrade...

I like the styrofoam idea for keeping track of the screws!

This is fantastic and you’re right: thermonuclear explosion coupled with high-level Plutonium 235 fission reaction.

Looks like you installed the same lights I did. Although I just replaced the WB lights. I used "Stainless Lamp Mount Plate, Hole Cover Plate for LED Lamps Installation" and mounted them so that the two stalks faced each other, which makes using the usb plug a little hard to use on the door side. And your right, they do flop down when driving. I had the same concerns about the screws as you. So what I did was to put some RTV on the screw holes prior to mounting the bracket. Hope that holds them in a little longer. By the way I took off the panel to insulate with wool previously and found that numerous screws mounting the panel were stripped out, not about to go through that again😉. I found numerous places where they over torqued mounting hardware though, so no surprise.

    Thanks for the video!
Did you try passing a strong magnet on a string from hole to hole?

thanks. I have used the magnet trick on other projects. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have worked here. there's a lot of foam behind the panel. I had to poke hard with my fishing wire to get through it and a magnet would have been pulled right into the foam, creating a lot of friction.

Danke for the video. I was thinking that wouldn't it have been easier to spray paint the light covers with a tint to knock down the brightness?

sure, that would have been an option, too. But aside from the brightness, it is also the position shining you directly in the sleepy eyes that make the original ones less useful in the bedroom

Your videos have helped so much ! I do have a question… maybe you will know. I took off the plastic panel underneath the bed. I deleted the small lights under it. I bought an LED light strip and have that wrapping the underside of the bed. It has a plug, but I want it to be operated from the light switch that turned the old lights on. Is it possible to hook up led lights to this switch? Right now, I have to turn on inverter and plug the light strip into the 110. Thank you!

thank you. does your light strip came with a transformer? it might be part of the plug or something in-line between the plug and the lights. if it does then check the output voltage of the transformer, should be printed on it. if that is 12V (and many light strips operate at 12V) then you can simply ditch the transformer and wire the light strip directly to the 12V wires the original under-bed-lights were wired into.
and if your light strip doesn't have a transformer or the output voltage isn't 12V then I would simply buy another light strip. there are many available that run on 12V and are advertised as such.

Ah. The transformer would be bypassed. I will check it out tomorrow in the light. Good idea to just buy a 12v if mine is not. So, I also wanted to thank you for the review on the speakers. That saved me about $5k from doing a big speaker set up. You’ve inspired me quite a bit on your other projects, too. Did the horn, the stick in tile backsplash, … and more :)
