Eric, great interview! It would be really interesting to get feedback from Chase on the techniques described for mind control in scientology. It sounds very similar. As he says anything can be used for good or evil. Sadly it seems they use it for evil, selfish reasons. But definitely would be interesting in hearing his perspectives on all this. Thanks so much!

I used to live in Clearwater, FL. On bike rides to the beach I would pass the scientology center in downtown. Looking through the windows I'd see members roaming the halls all dressed alike. Their eyes like dolls eyes. Looking like their souls had been pulled right from each of their individual consciousness. It was like looking at the Borg collective.

@@JustMe-nf1mf I don't think that any belief or belief system is inherently harmful. People get harmed in the organization because power-hungry humans implement bizarre rules and practices in fucked up ways, and the people become too indoctrinated to protest. Scientology itself does no harm to anyone unless people follow it and use the rules for their own benefit. That's why the harm happens.

From what I've heard, Scientology requires its followers to divulge their secrets as part of some of their auditing or other training sessions. It's much like "confession" in Catholic and Orthodox Christianity, except in Scientology, it all gets recorded in a personal file, and will be used as blackmail.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the LDS church, doesn't hide any part of the doctrine they teach from the public, despite the fact that only members in good standing may enter the temple. Even what is done in the temple is not secret, nor does it depart from the doctrines taught in public, it just adds to the knowledge provided in the scriptures and encourages members to make certain covenants. Furthermore, the church doesn't charge for its material beyond the cost of manufacture (that is, if you buy a Book of Mormon, you're paying for the material used to print the book and nothing more), so everything the church teaches is available at no cost online or through the Gospel Library app available through most app stores. You may learn all you like about what we who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes by researching what is available through the churchofjesuschrist.org website, or the Gospel Library app.

@@merricat3025 There are several problems with calling that a doctrine. First, no such teaching is ever officially espoused anywhere within the church, though it can be extrapolated by stripping other teachings of context. Second, nothing of the sort is ever taught in the temple, though a reminder of our potential is occasionally brought up during sealing ceremonies, but not taught even then as doctrine. Third, what we do believe regarding the doctrines that can be misconstrued as what you have suggested are not kept secret. Fourth, all that is kept sacred by those who attend the temple is personal and not doctrinal in and of themselves.

With some of my kin still in the religion and some either leaving or outright getting booted out, i can see the good and bad of the LDS as a whole and the temple it's self. My father has 15 brothers and sisters that all are/where LDS from Ogden, UT and they all spread out worldwide. i know that some of the weirdness is from temple to temple just like any other religion. Mostly my comment came from (( what i can remember, two years ago was a long time ago. i might re-watch this video after i catch up after my 5 month illness/media blackout. i am up to and just found out about Tyre Nichols )) My aunt going through absolute depression, disbelief, and just alone after leaving the temple. Life long "friends" and even some parts of the family, including my father, turning their backs on her at her lowest point in life. It took a while for her to recover from it from what i can remember. LDS folk are some of the most kind hearted people for sure, i am just very glad i never decided to dip my toe in the pond. i have never ran into a "bad Mormon" that was standing on the corning and screaming that i was going to Hell for what i was wearing like some of the other Christian churches do. Most Mormons i have ran into just want their decaf coffee and Jellio ... and would give you the shirt off their back, unless you left/got kicked out of the temple
