    Glad to see you guys are expanding! What is your recommendation when it comes to the type of leather? Veg tanned or chrome tanned? I have been reading mixed reviews of lasering chrome tanned leather due to harmful gases it can create.

    Is there a certain brand of leather glue you find most affective? Do you press the hats to ensure it bonds well? Or just glue and set and move on?

    This is really inspiring to me. I have recently retired and purchased the GlowForge Pro for doing some wood projects. I'm very interested in doing some leather projects as well. I'm new to all of this and I'm curious if I would need a special software program to create logos or do people actually send those to you? Thanks so much. I enjoy your videos

      Hey Even we don't stain the patches. We do apply a sealant. There are so many out there and they effect each leather differently.

      We like the Redrock but there are a lot of great options. Just try and stay in the 3-4oz range for thickness.

    Inspiring videos. Can you tell me if you’re stitching the leather on or using a certain glue? I’ve seen some using a machine for sewing them but didn’t know if that’s what you do or if it’s worth it

      Thanks Brad. All of our patches are bonded with a leather adhesive. We have used it on upwards of 80k hats at this point. There are lots of leather glues out there to try and see what works best. The stitching looks great but honestly...we don't have that capability with the amount of hats we are producing unless we hire people to stitch all day. Can't do that out of our home. Maybe one day when we get our shop built or our kids get old enough to learn the craft ;)

    Thank you for your videos! We have a wood shop that we have been using with a CNC machine. All was great but your videos inspired our small business to invest in the glowforge. We added these leather patch hats to our product line and is already our best seller. The only trouble we have is ordering the richardson hats. We had to use other brands but we really want richardson. Who is your supplier if you dont mind me asking? Thank you!

    How do you attach them? We were clamping with E6000 but bought the 360IQ hat press to make the job easier but getting the proper thermo adhesive sheets is proving to be a challenge. Also having a hard time finding a consistent supplier - really would rather not be going through Alibaba? And chance you want to show your supplier some love?? ;)

      We looked into several other lasers before making the purchase of our Glowforge. For our business model and setup and space this machine works best for us. I know there are faster machines out there but they are gigantic in comparison to a desktop laser like the GF. Just our personal preference :)

      Congrats! I have just always been idea driven. I just use the normal social media outlets. Not TikTok. Then I let our customers do the advertising once they wear our hats.

    How do you use something like the GM logo to print for someone's hat and make profit off it???? I thought you can't use that on TM items for profit

      Well the guy that works for GM made the order, sent the logo for their department. I'm sure he got permission. And it was 2 hats so it's not like we are selling them with a GM logo for profit. It was an employee to wear to work at GM.

    does the leather stink when you engrave it? ive done some wallets with my glowforge with fake leather. i ordered some leather from your link and am hoping it doesn't stink the house up.

      We can't smell it with out external filter running. But anything real or fake leather for sure isn't going to smell good when it's getting burned

      @@Awesome_MN we replace ours every few months because of how much we use both machines through the single filter. They are out of stock right now so yesterday we took the drop in filter out and blew it out with our air compressor. Not saying this is recommended vs replacing but needed to while we wait.

      Do you know how many times each week I get asked what glue and supplier, etc.
      Google search will lead you to an abundance of products to try. See what works for you. What works for us in our environment my not have the same results for someone else.
      This is our business. We learned and went through countless trial and error. We failed many times in the beginning. It helped us grow.
      Why don't I tell people our exact process?
      First of all, I don't want to be held responsible for someone product failing for a customer.
      Second of all I always have encouraged people to try different brands of leather glues and adhesives. You can literally Google it and get solid results.
      I'm not a teacher. There is no rule that says a crafter or businessperson has to tell anyone exactly how they do things.
      We live in a world of "I need you to tell me or I'll blast you on social media".
