    This is one of the best pickup demos ever! It provides useful sound samples of all the pickup positions _and_ is musically interesting at the same time. The production quality of the video is outstanding, and Danny Young's playing is an absolute pleasure to hear. Why can't all pickup demos on UA-cam be this good?

    • @bengordon7635

      because most demos the guitarist do not know the neck just smash a bunch of nonsense together , a pro can show up to a tina turner concert open a the music book and play note for note with out even hearing the music before . you look at a music sheet you can see through a song transparently . ,, you demo a strat you play floyd or something ,, ... hmm! ,, you demo a les paul you play some Rush or Zep leads ,, people want to hear what a guitar sounds like playing leads FROM songs like the pros ,, This guy is one of those underrated guitarist THAT KNOWS THE NECK AND EXACTLY WHERE HE CAN GO ,,,,

      @@sergioalvarez5949 I'm not a guitar technician, but I'd say it depends on your fretboard radius. If your fretboard has a vintage radius (7.25), then staggered poles are probably better. If you have a modern radius (9.5 and above), then go with flat poles.

    • @LeviBulger
      @LeviBulger 4 роки тому +2

      @@XxStonedImmaculatexX Yeah I just meant "modern" as in modern strat boards with flatter radii. Fender seems to be putting out more and more 12" and even the 15" (compound) boards on their strats. I actually prefer vintage radius but I picked up a deluxe last year with a 12" radius so I tried the SSL6 (had used the SSL5 for many years). It really does seem to tame the 3rd string and allow you to keep low action without that string being obnoxious and shrill.

    • @MrSaltWaterBread
      @MrSaltWaterBread 6 років тому

      Oh man, if you're going for noiseless I'd highly (strongly) suggest not buying Lace. They're just... I don't know, I can't describe the "sterile" tone from these. And this is just my opinion and it's all subjective, the tone. We have an endless supply of pups to choose from, it's wild! And it's awesome! But if want that simple combo that so many musicians made work, I'd go with the SSL 1, 1 and 5. And if you don't like them you can always resell and recoup some cost. But you just can't go wrong with these. They're perfectly hot and I can still use them for smooth R&B 50's tone. Anyway.... gl on your tone quest.

    I've been using these pickups for several years now, and the only big issue is that due to staggering the G string is way louder than other strings. Especially than B and E. If you play single notes across G and B strings, the volume difference makes it very difficult to play smoothly. Therefore, you need to find a wound string for the G string, so that the output is a bit lower.

      Michael Caz hey thanks for the kind words! The psychedelics are definitely the way to go for the SRV tone...but you have to put heavy strings on also! I was wondering, is middle pup lower than neck pup for a reason or is it just a personal preference? I have ssl1 in neck and bridge position, and screaming demon LIL in bridge, and have set my middle a bit higher that the neck...both are slightly tilted downwards under bass strings... .Cheers :)

    Those Seymour Duncan SSL -5 are really nice pickups ! I had my luthier take out the original fender stock pups on my Fender Stratocaster , and had those SSL-5 put in , and man what a difference !!! He also did the David Gilmour demonstration and put a toggle switch on it , so that I Now have 7 tones instead of 5 and it makes a world of difference , I can put all the pups on at once , and I can mix the neck pup with the bridge which gives it a really cool sound !!!

    I need some help... so I have an HSS strat. I’d really like to get SSL-1’s in my neck and mid and I don’t know if I should get the reverse polarity in the mid. I also don’t know what my bridge humbucker should be.. looking for a really clean bluesy sound. Hendrix, Frusciante, John Mayer, Gilmour etc.

    Sounds really good man ! I was just playing my Fender Strat mij last night , I was playing through a small 5 watt tube amp by monoprice ..its a clone of the Laney 8 cub . anyways I had a new Bad Monkey tube screamer hooked up to it and for some reason my pickups sounded really weak !!! ? I suppose a set of these pickups would do miracles compared to the stock Mickey mouse ones I already have in it .. Thank for the demo !

      First of all, thanks man! and secondly, the SSL5 is a hot pick-up which will most definitely NOT sound weak! Sounds like you have a great signal chain asides from your current pups...if you upgrade, feel free to hit us up and let us know how you get on!

    i had texas specials on my strat but they had too many mids and very high output. the guitar was too much "in your face" and was too "straty" sounding especially in the middle position. I changed the bridge pickup for an ssl-5 and I am super happy right now but dont know what to do with the other two. One thing for sure is that I want something balanced and mild in middle position so that it won't be too straty ( and I know this is the pickup position that produces the most straty sound), but still keep it vintage. do you think an ssl-1 will do? As for the neck I am thinking these 60's psychedelic custom shop pickups.

    • @seymourduncan
      @seymourduncan  7 років тому +2

      The SSL-1 (or -2) pickups are the ultimate in '50s Strat' sound...you might want to look at the Alnico IIs for a mellower take on the Strat sound, as well as the Antiquity IIs (mid 60s) or Psychedelic Strat set (late 60s).

    Sounds great. Duncan winds his pickups opposite Fender, so a Duncan bridge pu would have to be ordered as RWRP to match with a RWRP stock Strat middle pickup in the 2 position (M/B) to maintain hum cancelling and maintain the same relationship with the middle pickup as the stock fender bridge pickup.

  • @julienetemmamusic

    Hello there !
    I will probably get the same set for my new project...
    Question though: because the ssl5 gets a high output, is there any volume difference between the ssl5 and the ssl1?
    If yes, what could be done to avoid that?

  • @RobCmusic

    I really like the sound of my Duncan Designed Sc101 pickups in my Squier VM 70s Strat. The SC101 is described on the SD website as sounding like a cross between the SSL2 & SSL6 (so basically SSL1 & SSL5 then?).
    So I'd like to ask this question please:
    Does this mean that the SC101 bridge pickup is like the SSL6 and the neck/middle pickups are like the SSL2?
    Sometimes I feel like I want a bit more "fatness" from the bridge SC101. Would swapping it for the SSL5 make a difference or is the bridge SC101 in the same ballpark in terms of tone and output already?
    Thanks.

    These or Fat 50's set? Looking for a little more "oomph" in the bridge pickup but for the middle and neck, I want it as bright and twangy as possible, while still being able to handle low to medium low gain.

    In combination with 59 humbucker bridge and 59 humbucker neck which single coil in the middle would be a good fit. The SSL-1 or SSL-5?
    What I am aiming at is to keep an equal level in volume, output and sound when switching positions 1-5.
