So the engine that you were on is called a FP-45. For freight and or passenger it could be used for both. It was repainted in the super chief colors some time in the early. 90s. The orange empire trolley museum also has one of these. The 3 door baggage car is actually I believe a horse car used to transport racing horses to race tracks around Southern California. If you have any train questions or would like some one to go with you on a train adventure hit me up.
I love your passion for route 66. We are from Australia and will be doing the mother road in August. Your videos are better than any traverl magazine for this trip. The fine details of every town is what we aee excited about, meeting the people and exploring the corners like you do.
"Now it's time to say goodbye, to all our revelryyyyy... Dis-ney-land... Hotel's Grand... Fun for you and meeeee" AWWW! Fond memories of childhood! Red, silver and yellow Santa Fe locos! So nice. The little yellow "Push Me, Pull You" loco is a switch engine. The rail equivalent of a tugboat, it's diesel powered and used to shuttle railroad cars in a switch yard, to form and disassemble trains.
The yellow engine is a GE center cab switcher probably a 44 Tonner it's a small locomotive used in Yards and on shortline railroads to pull and assemble short trains over short distances. That one looks to be ex-military by the paint scheme. Basically it's just a locomotive that happens to have it's cab situated in the middle instead of on the front or rear like most engines
If you're ever on your way to the Bay Area, you should visit Old Niles in Union City. The strip still has the old buildings when the town was first made. They used to film Charlie Chaplin films near the train station and there's tons of antique shops and cafes. Cute little area, lots of nice shop owners.
Love the videos. If you ever get a chance you should come the fairplex garden railroad in Pomona. I volunteer there and we do a public run every second Sunday of every month November-July. But the best time is during the fair in September.
Hey! I mentioned on my personal account that you inspired me to start my videos, and I decided to subscribe using my new public SCIENCE SHOW channel and guess what?! You're now at 56,000! CONGRATS :D Can't wait for the next video!!
Hey Justin, Springfield Mo. is having a Route 66 festival in August (11&12th) and our History museum has a Route 66 exhibit they just put in on the square, book the Elvis room at the Rail Haven and come see us man!
Man, I have been watching the blogs long enough that I remember the last time you stayed in this hotel...or at least a hotel with automatic curtains. Pretty sure it was Las Vegas.
Love the videos on the mother road. Have you ever considered doing anything on other iconic roads? Lincoln Highway, perhaps? I know it might be an issue of geography, would be cool though.
I can't be the only one who thought "er, Justin, you forgot someone" when he cut straight from leaving the Disneyland Hotel to driving in the car with an empty passenger seat.
This is tripping me out, man. The remodeled Del Taco. I was at Hadleys in Cabazon last week and it was a brand new brick & mortar. So disappointing. Too bad, I did not catch any of that old AM travel station stuff we had to listen to... Or did I. I have some old VHS tapes.
In about a year from now I'll be moving to So Cal to continue film school, hopefully at long beach. I would love to work with you on anything! Before that even if you need people. If it's okay with you I'll be looking you up when I get down there. (I'm from San Jose) LOVE your videos! 😊
Justin, when I did my video on Barstow about a month ago, the Route 66 and Railroad museums were closed the too. 😡 Do you ever stop by the bottle tree ranch on your Route 66 travels? Elmer was super nice when I met him and the ranch is something special.
Is that Las Vegas at the end? If so,can you visit the old Sahara Hotel...or whatever it is now? i used to vacation there with my family in the 60s. I know it closed, but it was rumored that it would reopen with a new theme. Lots of history on that property.
Cactus Motel is my fav sign but it needs new bulbs i think 👍 the Desert Discovery center has turtles and tortoises.. you should hike to the top of Bhill next time for some panoramas 📸 and turn on pokemon go on main street to get mad pokestops
OK..I''ve been through route 66 from Chicago to Needles...hitting the rest of Cali later this summer... You concerned me though. Around 10:46 you mentioned that downtown Barstow is sketchy...anything I should avoid?
I miss old Del Taco. I think biker was actually theTimTracker. that was a cool motel sign. u goin to c Adam?? I don't know what puppybutt is but it must itch really bad.
Hrm...Maybe the Del Taco might've had pictures inside of how it used to look? Just a thought. Cool stuff though. :3 Aaaand........Vivaaaaa Las Vegas~! 8D!
So ... may I ask what are your tattoos? Do they mean something? I know it's such a random question. Thanks for all your videos. They are entertaining 😁
Our power plant railroad will be closing it's doors at the end of 2019! Good Bye to the old BMLP railroad! Black Mesa Lake Powell! that runs thru northern Arizona!
Although it irritates Ally, I get a kick out of hearing you say "the ooooooooooooooooold west." Can anyone out there solve the mystery of what is puppybutt? Now do your Elvis impersonation. Lol
Puppy butt....www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=puppy%20butt Descriptor of the skin on the back of a freshly shaved head, where the skull meets the spine. Length of hair may be approximately 1 to 6 millimeters, but may also apply to bicced heads.
Next time you plan on coming through Barstow send me a message on Facebook Messenger. I live in Barstow and I'm sure that I could get some people who know a lot more history about it to meet up with you and tell you more about our quaint little town possibly for a video. on fb I am just Andrew Deaton and my picture is a guy in a fedora with a lightsaber.
