    Question, I just replaced a frozen left side spool bearing on a ld 30, all other bearings seemed smooth as new except the one. Upon reassymbly and adjusting the preset it seems to be getting good free spool tipped up on the left side, but when I turn it handle side down it immediately slows down. Could this possibly be an issue with the preset not being installed correctly? also not getting as good of drag as I'd like with preset at good freespool/drag setting.

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  2 роки тому

      Thanks for checking out the video. The spool slowing down when turned to the right is common on many conventionals.... it's a sleeve issue and not a concern if it works well when horizontal.
      The drag issue could be similar to the TLD's.... sometimes you put everything back properly, but the drag doesn't function properly.... you have to "pop" it forward and backward a few times... usually works ... or take the lever assy apart and reassemble.

      @@TSGReelService Hey, thanks for getting back to me, the issue was solved, and may be something you would be interested in. This is the second small 2 speed reel that I have recently worked on that had bad spool bearings, completely frozen, but not corroded. As I understand it, these bearings are being crushed by being left in full strike and not backed off after use. This puts incredible pressure on the spool bearings and assembly. On this particular Daiwa that I was having the problem there was slop in the spool at proper preset, and the freespool would drag while tipped on the handle side. It was like there was a washer missing, but there wasn't. What it turned out being was the "drag spring washers" the 4 washer stack(+1) that the left spool bearing rest on (spool shaft)were completely crushed flat. This was causing the slop in the spool and dragging on the right side tip. I was able to reshape them with some careful pressing and hammering and the reel free spooled properly after that. Definitely an odd one.
      Thanks again for your response.

      You're welcome and no worries. There is quite a bit of lateral force being applied to these spool bearings.... I think I talk about it in my Avet video.... whether you leave it engaged or not.
      The tension washers being flattened makes sense, but I would just purchase new ones to replace them if I were you. It gives you two assurances:
      1) that it was indeed the washers causing the issue, and,
      2) their shape is pretty exact and difficult to manually reshape correctly.
      Thanks for detailing what you encountered.

    Thanks for the upload, I plan to do this service on my reel soon. Just wondering, when you cut the video and cleaned the real, what was the process like? Do you have another video on your page that might show that?

      Thanks for checking out the video. No, sorry, but if those things interest you, see tonight's video.... it goes into a little bit of detail. I usually cut the video because it's monotonous and/or I'm using an ultrasonic cleaner that I don't show on camera. You can also check the video description for things I use in the cleaning process.

    Great video! I have a question. I recently serviced my Shimano talica. Cleaned and regreased all the gears. I watched your video from a few months back. However, whenever I reel, there is a slight noise coming from the reel. It sounds like it’s coming from the clicker side. It’s a slight whine, which it never had before I serviced it. Any recommendations?

    • @TSGReelService
      @TSGReelService  2 роки тому

      Thanks for checking out the video. Did you remove the clicker?

    • @arid5127
      @arid5127 2 роки тому

      @@TSGReelService I did not. I thought it might’ve been a lack of grease on the gears. But I did some experimenting and put extra grease but the sound still persisted. I thought I might’ve damaged the anti-reverse spring so I ordered a replacement but it still has the same sound. I’m thinking that I didn’t grease something correctly.

      It sounds like a clicker assy issue, but if you've never touched it, maybe you should just use the video to do the rebuild all over again, or just take it to your local repair shop. If you are comfortable doing it, and choose to do it yourself, don't skimp.... do the rebuild.
