- Why is AOAA, Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area such a great off-roading park for a Polaris Rzr 900
Learn more about AOAA, in Coal Township, PA in this short review.
Testing and experience utilized a 2020 Polaris Rzr 900 Trail 50" edition, two passengers, and visited time was two 8-hour days in Sept 2020. Sunny conditions, some previous rain left most of the water holes still full (and one VERY full we found out.) Crowds were for a Friday, Saturday, so the Saturday was the busy day. We visited East and West zones and stayed in Shamokin, PA overnight. Temperatures were comfortable. Unit was equipped with spare tire, ride command gps, winch, 50 litre storage compartment, fold-down windshield, poly hard roof, and upper non-oem storage roof soft storage.

What is your favorite part of AOAA? What kind of atv/utv/bike do you ride when you go to AOAA? Tell us!
I live 2 hours away. First time up was Father's Day 2020. Absolutely loved it!!! We take a few quads up when we go. As stated, all terrain types, all skill levels. Something for everyone!
@@Pearly313 I love it. My next visit will be once I get my heated seats project/video complete. I want to visit Reading as well in the next few weeks.
@@TheBeatenTrail I've never been to FRO, alot of people like them as well. Looking forward to riding into town on my next trip!
I love AOAA, only 3 hours from me and so worth it! Great review, looking forward to your other Reading area and Pa area reviews.
We hope to visit and review the other FRO sites in the weeks ahead. A lot to cover, but working on that!
I’m going to aoaa this Saturday for the first time! I can’t wait!
Awesome. You will really enjoy it!
Same here
Totally agree with your AOAA review we are going to try Famous Reading next month
Thank you. I have to revisit in 2021 for a more-detailed video, but I think its organized really well.
What’s famous Reading?
Famous reading outdoors is a neighboring place, see our" Is Famous Reading Outdoors still worth it" video on the channel. No daily passes, yearly only $200+

I haven't been there in years. Last time only the Eastern side was open and there was no campsite. I am getting ready to go again in a small group and have been doing some research. The trail to Shamokin is open Friday-Sunday 10-2 and is off of Trail 1 in the top left corner of the Eastern Reserve map. The restaurants seem to open at 11 am.
Yes I have to get my butt out there again and ride it now that the trail goes into town. When I was there and did this review it was just in progress or you had a ride tags for the day but will definitely get out there before the snowfalls this year to do an updated review!
My wife and I love it there. I ride a 2021 Polaris Sportsman 850 Trail and she's got a 2003 Honda 250ex.
I enjoy it, so wide open and I love how the trails are marked so well. How do you like the 250ex? I miss my 2014 Rancher, was so reliable and easy to maintain.
@@TheBeatenTrail the 250ex has been very reliable but it too slow and rides like a brick. Ive been trying to convince her that its time to upgrade. I'm hoping she gives my the ok to at least get her on a new sportsman 450 ho in the spring.
@@SuperRoyalone Nice, my friend just got a new Polaris Sportsman 570, its pretty nice, just some of the plastics are soft and the locking "waterproof" front storage box isn't really waterproof/splash-proof. But it runs nice. Hoping to have a short video review on it soon.
This looks fantastic - - Can't wait to get out there with my quad!
Its huge, and there are all types of trails for all kinds of riding. You'll love it.
We really like AOAA
After visiting other places, I really think AOAA knew how to do trail labels and signs. Not 100%, but certainly other local places need to learn from them to help their riders, and also to keep traffic where they want it. Love how AOAA did it.
Wife and I have been 5 times now and we still haven’t rode all the trails. We’ve stayed in the campground 3 times and have no complaints. we always go for two days to allow a full day to each side. Wife rides s 16 700 kodiak with clutch mods , rad relocate on 26 inch bear claws and I’m on a 17 700 kodiak clutch mods rad relocate on 28 inch wildthangs .
Very Nice, how do you like your kodiaks reliability-wise? I haven't reviewed the campgrounds yet. Regardless, its close and convenient. Think they said electric is in, but they're upgrading it. I have to wear down my stock rzr tires and then i have to decide what kind of Terrabites or other to invest in. Want to go to 28's if I can. Also, looking at the 900-s conversion kit for the trail.
@@TheBeatenTrail
I’m a Yamaha guy, we have 01-400 04-450 also that our boys ride. Weve only had a few problems with reliability, and that’s attributed to riding in deep mud. The 01 is on a second set of A arm bushings and the 04 had mud packed into the choke on the carb, but that’s it . I also installed fuel tuners on our 700’s to fix the lean engine’s for longevity purposes. So considering how hard we ride em very little maintenance besides typical oil, diff changes and filter cleaning oh and yearly brake pads but mud ridding kills pads fast.
Nice, I always hear the Yamahas and Hondas as built so much better than other machines. I'm looking at the ECM tuner for the Rzr, but it'll be after a few more upgrades and reviews. Limited experience here with mudding other than an older Honda ATV, but I am sure that'll change!
Fantastico....e adquirido un rzr 900 haze poco aqui en europa no tenemos parkes asi... solo tenemos restriccionrs i prohibiciones para salir al monte ...henorabuena por los videos...
I had to use Google Translate, but thank you for enjoying the video! I am sorry to hear you do not have many places to ride in Europe, but at least you have some. My state of NJ is much the same, nowhere legal, so we travel 2 hours to PA or another state to enjoy! Keep on riding and I am happy you enjoy the videos! Be sure to share and like! or
Nice work.. hard to find much info about this area.
Thank you. Hoping to revisit AOAA for a 2021 update this summer.
How does this park hold up when it rains really hard? Are there inclines so steep that when wet, they're impassable?
Well, I ran into some bad runoff, so just maybe the lower (102?) trail, unsure. Was summertime when I last went. I have to do a 2021 update for AOAA. Thank you for watching!
So I was on my way for the first time to AOAA and got a message on a forum to try Famous Reading instead. As it was 30 miles closer on the same road I was on I did, I’m told FR is much better. Do you agree?
It’s very similar land and they’re actually not too far away from each other but I would say that there is much greater variety and hill climbs, trails and all different types of terrain at FRO versus AOAA. Of course full disclosure I have ridden a lot more at famous Reading outdoors than I have at AOAA but FRO is so much larger in size trail wise. Of course last I was at AOAA they have two separate zones which are separated by the road and from what I understand now you can take a trail down into town, Shamokin, to access certain roads for fuel food parts etc. FRO is split into two different General regions spanning a greater area with smaller plots half are interconnected into two areas. Overall I would just have to go with famous reading outdoors for overall value and variety and just how much larger it is.
What area is less rocky and better for dirt bikes? Any dirt single track areas?
I would say if you’re on a dirt bike stay to the eastern zone - less bigger rocks for the most part. You could take Trail 101 and 102 I think but once you get past that it gets pretty rocky on the west side.
Any trails for unmodified 4 runner ?
Yes, AOAA has full sized trails, I think its $33/day unless you're a pa resident, check the website for sure. A great time!
I swear this is an insane place and I also have videos on it as well. the first time I went there I didn't record the entire thing, but the second time, yeah, I did. the first time I went to both east and west sides and the second time i was only able to go to the east. I prefer the east side anyway. great place with lots of trails, fun jumps and some hill climbs too. I just reccomend going when It snows because I drive a Suzuki KingQuad 700 basically bone-stock except for the swapped out Maxxis Zilla Tires. they provide great grip and so i can't really do drifts when it doesn't snow. also when it doesn't snow it seems a little less fun. check out my channel for some stuff.
Will check it out, thanks for watching! We enjoy AOAA, rocky, but a good place to get lost! ;)
I know I’m in the minority but I really prefer AOAA to FRO. I have to state up front I’ve only been to darkwater at FRO but that was almost completely coal. My experience in cleaning my bike/ATV/clothes, was much nastier with the coal. I prefer good old dirt. I’m also just not all that into hill climbs. I’m more into the wooded scenery. Additionally, the parking lot at AOAA is quite nice while at FRO it was...not.
Now AOAA is not nearly as big and I just saw a small part of FRO so I could be off on my impression, but from my experience, I’d take AOAA over FRO.
Thank you. When I visited AOAA, I loved the organized trails, the signage, and it was enjoyable. Once I got to know FRO, and you do have to use a map app like Maprika or ONX to fully appreciate it, I did find Ashland North, South, and some of burma, much like AOAA - minimal coal. Darkwater is really just a big long strip mine with some offshoot trails. My first DW review wasn't very accurate, but once I redo it, it'll be mostly coal, anthracite and the dust. Thankfully not all FRO is like DW, just some of them, since, that is what they do there. I have to get back out to AOAA for an updated review, now that the road path is there. When I went, I stayed in town, so it would have been nice to experience the in and out via the trail.
@@TheBeatenTrail
Thanks! Maybe I’ll have to give FRO another try in the other regions you referenced.
Well if you do let me know I can always show you around a bit. I’m usually riding at least once a weekend out there.
@@TheBeatenTrail
That’d be great. It will be at least a few weeks but I will!
Very rocky...not a place for sport atv's in my opinion
Yes it can be a bit rocky
You can't be serious giving them 5 stars - but whatever rocks your boat - opens late, closing early, whole bunch of unnecessary stuff trying manage you like you are 5 yo and rocky, narrow trails ... Well crap... Do they paid you for this review ?
Unpaid review, 2 years ago, the first time we went. So yes, there are many aspects for improvement, the hours, rules, trails. Overall, we enjoy it. Fro no longer has day passes (unless its the tour), and the land keeps being reduced and the trees are all coming down. PA is not an ATV-friendly state, with the exception of progress being made in Shamokin and Minersville, but it never will be a Hatfield & McCoy Area.
@@TheBeatenTrail ok, fair Play
