    🛠🔩🏆👍 This is the BEST how-to video for the Ford/Mazda Duratec 3.0 spark plug change out there. You explained each step carefully and clearly, you used a tripod (important), the camera stayed focused so viewers could see your work up close, and, most importantly, you didn’t have any annoying hip-hop/rap/metal “music” blasting away in the background- always a sign of a true UA-cam amateur. Thanks for posting this and helping anyone tackle this job, which isn’t that hard. Or they can pay a shop $300-400 for the work. 😤🙄 Tip: For stubborn old spark plugs that don't want to turn when you take them out, I spray a shot of PB Blaster rust penetrant (or similar) down the spark plug hole and let it sit for 24 hours. That stuff is a miracle product!

    Great How-too. I’d been putting the job off for a year because I dreaded the throttle and intake. I was just going by the Chilton guide. Black and white pics do not clearly illustrate how to remove wires and hoses.
    Thanks for the steps in putting it back. Most How-toos just say do the vid in reverse. Many thanks from the mountains of SW Va. 2009 Ford Fusion.

    Thank you so much. I had a misfire on #1 today. I got lucky a few years ago and had a misfire on one of the front cylinders. So I just replaced those three at that time lol. Now it looks like I got to do the big job. One question: I purchased two upstream o2 sensors several months ago. Do you know if taking the intake off is required to replace the one on the firewall side and how difficult it is? Are those o2 sensors usually very stuck?

    Do you ever come across in any issues later with tightening spark plugs according to recommended torque specs? Some videos I watch on UA-cam says not to tighten sparks plug according to the torque specs because it might over tighten and blow out.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  6 років тому +1

      Pie P I haven't had any issues. You are better off going a little tighter than spec. rather than looser. If the plugs are too loose they can viberate and eventually viberate enough to destroy the threads, which blows out the plug. Some engines are more prone to this than others.

    I removed the first spark plug coil under the intake manifold cover and it has a lot of oil leaking from the coil in that tube area. What does that mean and what should I do?

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  6 років тому

      Pie P the spark plug tube is leaking oil. You need a new spark plug tube seal. It will cause mis-fires eventually.

    • @piep6851

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  7 років тому

      I don't. I wish I had it. Believe it or not you can come across a lot of information just doing Google searches. Code setting criteria and good wiring diagrams are impossible to find with google. I have looked into Alldata, Mitchell, and Identifix but, they all range in the $160 a month range. I can't guarantee that I have cars coming in every month. It's just too expensive right now.

    • @skoal22005

      you can get older versions of alldata online that don't require the monthly subscription. I'm actually looking into getting something like that. But yeah google is our friend for sure. No doubt about it.

    You have some very expensive tools. Snap on are very pricey.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  7 років тому +1

      Not as much as you think. What I used in this video is about 1/2 of my Snap On collection. I got them at half price when I was in mechanics school about 10 years ago. The things I bought have a mechanism. Not just sockets. Back then buying things online wasn't as big as now. Harbor freight tools were complete crap. That left Sears or the tool truck.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  7 років тому +1

      The more I use Gearwrench tools the more I like them. If I was starting out now all of my Snap On tools would be Gearwrench.

  • @fredbach6039

    I wasn't terrible impressed with that ratchet to pull the plugs with. It can put various unwanted forces on the plug. I prefer to use an old-fashioned torque wrench with my other hand firmly holding the center of the socket very well centered over the plug. Once the torque in broken you should use a smaller standard ratchet. Granted you do use your left hand to try and keep the force circular and not sideways. Also I didn't see any silicon hv dielectric grease put on the end of the coils where it goes over the plug. That HV is so powerful that given the slightest excuse it will try to find a way out of the boot and down the outside of the plug to ground, leaving a carbon track behind. You need to use the dielectric grease.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  5 років тому +4

      I'll address what you said before you edited your comment.
      I highly doubt you can force enough lateral movement to break the porcelain off of the spark plug on this particular application. If you try to move the extension from side to side in an attempt to break a spark plug the extension will hit the spark plug tube and stop before the plug breaks. Is it possible? Maybe. If you don't know how use a ratchet and extension without creating damage, you probably shouldn't attempt this service.
      You do make a good point about using dielectric grease. I simply did not have any on hand but, if it's any consolation the car is still running like a top. Thanks for watching.
