I think if you run it constantly, there wouldn't be any concerns about the lack of drying out.

I don't think so. It's not like a pool pump, with vigorous water flow. It will just be a constant damp wick. But even then, this is assuming you'll be there before it auto shuts off on you. I just don't think this is a reasonable expectation

Why dont you just treat the water with hydrogen peroxide?
Also, i wonder if there is a float on the inside that you can just tape or prop up so it never thinks its out of water.

That's a good idea on the float switch. You'd probably have to tape it down. But the evap40 works perfectly out of the box. And I actually prefer that it's shorter and thus fits well on my shelf

I just got the Honeywell & the auto shut off is ridiculous. It will run for a minute or so and turn off. I do not think the built in humidity sensor is accurate. I’ve had my unit a week and still have not gone through a full tank of water. Defective? Should I return it? It’s so nice like you said from a cosmetic standpoint but this is a failure.

Yes sir, I would return it. I get the impression you didn't watch the last 2 minutes of the video, where I show this failure and recommend against this model. Sry you missed that, but sounds like the return window is still open. Snag yourself an Evap40 :) I also suggest you watch my video on Best Humidifier for Health. At the very least, the last minute of it, so you don't destroy your house with improper humidifier use

How often do you wait to turn back your humidifier once dry?

Generally, I leave it dry for about 12 hours, as it dries up shortly after I wake up. But again, that's with the Evap40. This Honeywell model struggles to dry up due to its auto shutoff "feature"
