A really detailed and informative video thanks, currently in process of applying for an apprenticeship into bricklaying and this has been a really great grounding for the precise work required
I agree,i don't no that when mixing you have to be careful because of the chemical not to get it on your skin, and putting the right ratio of sand and cement
perfect this is so beautiful i wish there were programs like this in the united states so that we wouldn't have so many gangsters running around our cities as well as in the government
But this is more of collage course in the UK not a program where anyone can just go... Even at certain age it is free once you go past 17 you'd have to pay for such courses.
Yeah that is what I am saying though. This is only free to people like you under a certain age. Once you go past 16, 17, It cost thousands to do any course. That why you should do it when your young by the time you've done a few years at collage fully qualified! It sets you up nice when your 19/20. When I was young it wasn't like that. You could just turn up to a site with no cards all that so most people didn't opt for collage when you're getting 150 cash in hand everyday you just don't care lool
Wow... I am in newport.. Wish i went to school in Pontypool.. Brilliant teacher and seems a great school!! I am 57, can i come to your school please???
I've got a few trades under my belt and a management degree but I've always been interested in bricklaying. Thanks for the demo I'm thinking of doing a bricky course now. What size level is that 900 or 1200.
Is . that back brace to hold your belly in Or is that your money belt.!. Just the sort of thing that another old time bricklayer would say. Been apprentice served bricklayer for 44 years. All the best Jim
I start my construction course in less the. A week. One of the things that will be on it is bricklaying. Will I find that interesting or will I find it boring.
I never understand why the first two or three courses gets plumbed with a 4 foot level? Surely it’s more accurate putting a two foot against such a low wall?
If the part of the level sitting on the brick is flush all the way along the brick, then it doesnt actually matter, it will always show the same result, but it is annoying as hell! so yeah it is strange.
interesting to see how people work in other countries. I myself am also a bricklayer in the Netherlands but here we do bricklaying in a completely different way. But a nice video though.
Well how odd to come across this, I was a student at Rhydyfelin College & Ystrad Mynach College, Lew Groom lecturing at Ponty tech (as it was then) and Charles King at Ystrad Mynach.
Lucy your a teacher because holding a job while hitting a brick 17 times to make two half's is really not an option. You have so many repetitive moves I guess time is not of the essence.
Well, it's an instructional video, an extremely good one at that. I'm pretty sure he's not stuck for employment options because he made a video illustrating how to cut a brick in half using a chisel. I'd even go so far to suggest that he's probably more than familiar with using other tools to cut bricks quickly, even though it's not in this particular video. So it's not a case of "lucky he's a teacher".... It's a bloody good job he's a teacher, looks like he's doing a fine job.
Thought holes in the bricks were to reduce material consumption and weight which all relate to keeping costs down, not an increase mortar bonding? And it isn't so much that 'filling the frog' give's it strength or support.. Mortar acts to distribute weight across the full surface of the brick regardless of the brick type - not filling in frogs and leaving voids weakens the brick as weight is distributed to edges only - filling it maintains it's "normal" strength, it doesn't increase it...
@@gbwildlifeuk8269 lol, are you relates to this guy in the video, its hilarious watching you defend him on every hate comment, to be fair to the OG poster, he is 100% correct, and you are 100% wrong, the reason for the holes is absolutely to reduce costs for the manufacturers, you are clearly not a brickie so why the fuck you are accusing everyone with criticism of being a cowboy is beyong me lol
Yeah never seen such a wierd way of rolling mortar, you would normally not have enough room on your board to roll it for about 30cm like they did lol, we were taught to cut a piece or mortar pick it up and let it roll of your trowel back onto the board 2 or 3 times then scoop it up and it looks better than the sausages these guys were laying, wierd!
All the haters here dont realise its a tutorial for college based assessment, not "how to do it like some cowboys on site" video. They dont recognise it because they probably never gained quals. They're just self taught know alls.
I dunno man, i went to college for it, and i saw atleast 4 bad practices in this video, i think the school maybe hired a brickie as their teacher who happens to be one of the "cowboys" you mentioned. Besides, complaining about them doing something badly hardly makes the complainer a cowboy lol. If you are teaching the next generation of brickies shouldnt you be concerned when they are being taught bad habits?
"Needs to be perfect" Well it's safe to say you failed mate 😂😂😂😂 10mm??? Try 12-13mm! About 5mm away from the former. Off square about 15mm at least at top course. Pointing was bloody horrendous. And that fucking half!!!!!!!!! Just stop.....

IT A QUOIN quoin. A quoin is an angle at the outside corner of a building. You can call the corner itself a quoin, or use the word for the special stones or bricks that reinforce corners of brick or stone buildings. ... Some quoins are decorative features, providing variety and pattern to the corner where two exterior walls meet. Who's the cowboy brickie then? 😂😂😂😂

123456782267 . You sound like a right idiot criticising every little thing, I'm guessing you're suffering from some sort of mild depression. I'm sure if you made a tutorial you would get more people criticizing you than this guy. I think he done a great job and I've been doing it 30 years.
123456782267 . What a deluded idiot he was, you're a sad guy who's depressed, admit it lol
Mark Meadows I believe if you troubled to read through his odd run-on sentence, you may understand that his or her spoken English is also likely incomprehensible. As such, making a video is out of the question. If you can't write, I don't have faith that you can speak well either. The use of "rubbish" leads me to speculate the author is indeed European, which is even more odd because the language began on that side of the world.
as kok is saying building corners is apprentice stuf I was also taught to build corners many years ago it is not the best way to teach bricklaying to a apprentice there are five different important things you should show them first it is not there fault wrong teacher

Don't listen to the haters, great job and hello from Michigan!
The video was fantastic. It has given me a magnificent insight into the art of brick laying and masonry. Thank you guys.
Uk doesn’t do masonry, just bricklaying
Fantastic tutorial. Well explained. I attended the old University of Glamorgan back in 1995 in Ponty. Keep up tye great work.❤
Congratulations to all involved in the production of a "Gem" of a Video!
Great job and explanation of step by step instructions. 👍
This has given me confidence to have a go at rebuilding my garden walls. Thanks, from an ex-Rhondda boy :-)

bricklaying is art

Bricks vary in sizes , So it needs to b kept too 75mm gauge vertical or depending if u have too open or close 225 mm horizontal.

Nice brick work, what happened to the dpm?
Thank you sooo much am not a bricklaying but I have some idea how to do. I will start to build an small BBQ and I will see what will happen,
i would say your out on your 10mm perps !!! and what about checking your gauge
What ages do bricklaying apprenticeships range from?
16-20
Excellent video.

how come you set a profile up at end and left a gap up it shouldn't the bricks be against it that's what it's there for
Nice job...keep up
I cant help but instantly like Welsh people
as a brickie you would never range the back in just range the front
I'm inclined to doubt the use of "never" in this sentence. You may not just not have enough experience to know the value of also "ranging" the back.

he could not hold a job cutting a brick like that.
so why teach others to do it like that? Boss would say WTF!
PaddleDogC5 I guess because it teaches the basics. I learnt long multiplication on paper before I learnt how to use a calculator.
Totally different
90% of the time the floor lever wont be level
If you use a metal square, you can check the external quoin face. Instead of the internal corner because this will be inside the cavity. 😳

Why level two brick then add a half and then level it all again? Waste if time.
He should of showed the kids the 3 4 5 method.. Get them using the tape more instead of using already made square for a 90degree angel
He may of done that prior to the brickwork tutorial. 3 4 5 oh you mean pythagoros!

Please lay all the brick then level them all.
You roll your mortar far too slow it's stressing me out
