I do bodybuilding and climbed for the first time last week. At 6’2 240lbs I was immediately humbled. Zero technique and wasn’t in a problem solving mindset. I clumsily powered through every boulder and ended up more sore than I’ve ever been. You did a much better job
As a rock climber this was such a good video. It would have been nice if you put the grades on screen for each problem. Pretty impressive stuff. Thanks for sharing
Great job on your first session, I like how you also show your struggle proving it’s not a sport of strength or endurance more so technique and experience. The benefit of being fitter and stronger will help you progress grades faster than someone unfit as well as being flexible to learn techniques easier but it has zero benefit on your first session realistically which is a humbling experience. If you keep at it the puzzle solving of each climbs technique may become an addiction, enjoy the healing process of that skin flapper!
@@bruised_knee More experienced climbers making problems look easier than they are is something that carries across all grades lol, I know it’s still something I have trouble with! If you’re missing holds whilst up the wall, it probably means you didn’t spend much time on the ground mapping your moves, which as a new climber you wouldn’t/arguably wouldn’t need to. Practicing the moves from the ground before attempting a problem will help your memory of hold positions as well as what body position and technique you need to use but honestly I like flashing/on sighting climbs and solving it whilst on the wall, it’s way more fun to do it that way V4 and below.
@@SergeantCustard16 I did notice other climbers doing that in the gym but when I tried it I still got stuck with the same problem. Definitely would need more experience to be able to map complex problems.
@@bruised_knee That’s all part of the fun in my opinion, keep trying the puzzle with different moves until something works or becomes clear. If you enjoyed climbing definitely keep at it, it’s great for your mental and physical health, there’s tons of climbing channels that give great advice out there too for new boulderers, the trick is you can’t really go wrong if you finish the problem without injury so there’s no “correct” way to solve it!
