To a referee saves a lot of court time instead of having 2 and 3 day divorce trials, they end up spending no more than an hour or 2 before a judge, so going through a referee is actually very sensical financially for the courts and the parties. What waste court's time is when Mother's like this consistently refuse to let the child go see their father as the judge said, if he was refusing to go to school or take a bath. She would take care of it. This mother is deliberately playing games. And that is where it costs the court.

There is lots of very powerful and influential women’s advocacy groups though, combined with lawyers advocacy groups who ally themselves to the women. If you are a man in America you do not stand a chance in family court. In our current cultural climate men are, at best, invisible disposable nobodies unworthy of empathy and respect. At worst, we are the greatest villains, responsible for all of societies ills. Until judges are willing to hold parents in contempt and send them to jail for denying parenting time, it will continue to be denied because there are no real penalties. A sanction doesn’t mean anything, and neither does a fine. Jail time, however, speaks volumes.

It's very specific as to the scope of the motion before the judge and in some states before it gets to the county level for a full trial leading to a dissolution of marriage and a final judgment certain things have to be worked out in front of the referee. The referee is essentially a judge but he's not a county judge and therefore It's essentially a recommendation that has to be made before moving forward at the county level. This sort of thing happens after a final judgment and the divorce is settled it will go directly back to the county judge, not the referee, and the judge will put sanctions including fines and possible jail time for these sorts of offenses against the court order that was put in place at the end of the dissolution of marriage hearings

These courts need to listen to the children and stop screwing good parents. The kids generally know which parents they feel safe and comfortable with. This is absurd and clearly this judge has never tried to make a 14 year old child do anything they don’t want to do especially when it involves spending time with people they don’t want to spend time with. Also forcing the parent to force their child into a situation where they don’t want to be or aren’t comfortable will ultimately also be deleterious to the relationship they have with the parent that they do feel comfortable with. Someone has to advocate for the child because God knows no one in the court system ever does.
