    Definitely agree, the front lip is critical. Matching the rear dark diffuser with a dark front lip looks great.

    I have the STI short shifter and have never had any trouble with slop for missing gears. Maybe I have an abnormal shifter, but it is perfect. Ride the left for 1st and 2nd, slides right in, center up and down for 3rd and 4th; far right slides into 5th and 6th perfectly. I was going to get the Perrin shift stop, but just don't need it.

    I’ve had a 2015 for about 2 years now. 68k miles on it. And I just, just found out about turning off hill assist. It’s been by far the most noticeable thing I’ve done for absolutely no money. The car no longer holds you making you apply more gas and burn the clutch more. It’s way smoother and feels more like a manual. Just a tip :)

    Best mod by far is a universal Subaru flex fuel kit from eBay saving 200-250$ from buying same thing branded by Cobb and then getting a flex fuel tune by Bren or phatbotti. Hands down best money spent. And if you bundle the ap purchase with their e tune then you save 100-200$ on that as well. Just went e50 with universal flex kit and power gains are insane. 360/360.

    I have a 2017 WRX same color and everything. I do like that front lip, i know the new model has a little bit lower clearance than the previous models but at least that lip protects the bottom of the front bumper if you were to accidentally bottom out a little bit

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому +1

      Exactly! And if you go with the "ebay" one even if it get's trashed ~$100 isn't too big of a loss.

    If you need an aftermarket shift gate because it's too sloppy, you should practice more. Mine is super sloppy (not a wrx, but old and bushings worn out) and I haven't had any problems since I got used to it.

      BMWFilmz. That’s what I thought! I just got a 19 WRX and have no problem with the sloppy shifter. I don’t understand what everyone is complaining about. Maybe I will after a few thousand miles?

      @AnthonyVisuals 5 років тому

      @@jimmytheshark86 I think they've fixed it in the 2019 model honestly, I have a 2019 wrx and i have little to know play in my shifter, maybe is also supported by the fact is that most of the wrx's are being optioned with the short throw now, haven't found a 19 without one.

    • @devjk1

      @@AnthonyVisuals just bought mine 2 weeks ago and it doesn't have one. And I tried both. Tbh it's kind of a gimmick, both feel pretty close to the same. I might buy the Perrin short throw shifter adapter cause that is only 100ish instead of 400+ for the sti one. But I don't mind the stock shifter at all. Not quite as good as my Honda but still pretty decent.

      devon kim I have the STI short throw because the dealership could only get me the color I wanted with the deal I wanted with the short throw and I honestly really really like it, not sure why a lot of people cry about it, let me know how you like the Perrin one, and if you’re in SoCal let me know if you’re going to any local meets so we can compare!

    A pretty good list - personally I'd rather get a JDM grill before the front lip, but just my personal preference. Really makes the front look better. While there's no guarantees from Subaru, they have been known to partially or fully pay for engine warranty work even with a Cobb AP. The aggressiveness of the mods and map may certainly play into it.

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому

      JDM Grill is also an awesome first mod for sure! With the Cobb AP the bottom line is that there are no guarantees how it will play out if you do need warranty work, I have heard it go either way.

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  8 років тому

      I can totally understand that. In stock form the WRX shifter is pretty sloppy. The shifter stop and weighted shift knob definitely help but it is still not as good as the BRZ or STI. In my experience you do end up getting used to it tho.

    • @baldygrey2779
      @baldygrey2779 8 років тому

      Good to know, I'm strongly considering an STI as well. I wish they could just use the same gearbox because I do like the practicality, newer turbo and newer engine of the WRX.

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому +1

      Thanks Dustin! I would always recommend getting an AP and tune to be safe! Especially if you are going to do it eventually anyways.

    • @oregonphototrekker8894
      @oregonphototrekker8894 7 років тому +1

      An aftermarket intake can cause your WRX to run lean, which is one of the biggest ways to damage your boxer engine. Do NOT run an aftermarket intake without a custom tune. Better yet, ditch it and keep the stock box. You can put in a high flow panel filter but putting in a different intake can mess with your MAF sensor and air-fuel ratio in a bad way, where Subaru won't cover engine damage from it.

    i heard you can change the cobb accesport back to factory settings if needed to brought in for warranty coverage on any issues

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому

      That is definitely a gray area with a lot of differing opinions. If you had a huge issue that cost $$$ there is some people who believe Subaru engineers can actually look in the ECU software data logs and check how many times it's been updated. I guess the real takeaway is that you can't be 100% certain that if something happens you will still be covered, no matter what you run a certain amount of risk and have to accept that.

    • @oregonphototrekker8894
      @oregonphototrekker8894 7 років тому +1

      You CAN change the AP to the stock settings, but there is apparently a way for Subaru to know if there's been a material change with the ECU. Bottom line is don't commit warranty fraud - be upfront. Subaru HAS been known to pay for engine warranty work even for an engine that had an Accessport - Subaru has to show the modification was the reason for the failure. It would likely be tough for them to say the Stage 1 off-the-shelf map was the cause of an engine failure. Now if you had bigger injectors, turbo, etc - then that's going to be nearly impossible to defend.

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому +1

      It really depends on your dealer but it would be a huge stretch for a dealer to claim that the shifter stop did anything to negatively effect your car. It just controls the stroke of the shifter.

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  8 років тому

      Anthony it really depends if you think your going to ever add a J-Pipe. The J pipe has an extra resonator in it and literally makes your exhaust twice as loud if you remove it so. Do you think you will remove it?

      Awesome! There is a ton of good info on here: forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2620784
      It's actually pretty simple (just intimidating at first). The main tips I can offer are:
      -Make sure to scuff the chrome that you are painting with either like a 400 grit sandpaper or some steel wool so the paint bonds well to it. Also make sure to wash with soap and wipe down with alcohol before painting.
      -Make sure the parts you painted have adequate time to dry - you can get the inside of the lens messed up of the paint isn't dry when you put them back together.
      -Be careful when re-sealing the lights and make sure you have a solid seal all the way around.

      Hi Don, I did a couple coats of plastidip on mine, if you do paint instead; scuff it first with fine sandpaper and use adhesion promoter to make sure you get a good bond. I liked the idea of being able to re-do the finish if need be in the future.

      The short shifter just reduces the throws by 10% but does not effect the "slop" that is corrected by the shifter stop. So yes, the shifter stop would still improve it.

    Dose the Perrin Shifter Stop work with the 2016 WRX StI, and the rest of these mods as well ?

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому

      Hi Saul, All of these mods EXCEPT the shifter Stop work with the STI. You can get basically the same improvement on the STI shifter by upgrading the two bushings which can be found here: subiebros.com/perrin-rear-shifter-bushing-2015-sti/ and subiebros.com/perrin-shifter-bushing-kit-2015-sti/
      If you install both of those in your STI you will notice your shifting will be much more crisp and precise. I have used those bushings on a past car I had and it also made a huge difference. It's a great mod for the $$ for sure.

      I have had zero problems with the car since I purchased it 14 months ago and 16k miles (14k of those miles were on a tune)

      Just got mine on Saturday spoke with subispeed reps and they said that most 18 parts work on 19. Same with Cobb accesport.

      I re used my Perrin shift stop from my old 15 WRX and installed on my 19 WRX. Works great, also added the Perrin brass shifter bushing.

    hoes the sti short throw shifter option from factory fix the stock wrx shifter problems?

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому +1

      It shortens the throws but honestly the feel is about the same, no difference in the side to side slop.

      Carl Adrien Caasi I test drove both it feels a bit different and the stuff knob looks better. Installing a sts is a bit of work for these cars. I ended up getting my 17 wrx premium with it and I believe it was worth it. I ordered the Perrin shift stop and Perrin bushing. It should eliminate everything.

      Awesome... Im planning to get an 18 wrx or wrx sti... though I am quite disappointed, from.recent news I heard 18s will just be a refresh/facelift. but depends on the official specs, but ill definitly do the sl and sts. prolly a sti performance catback too. wonder if aftermarket catback is warranty friendly.

      @DJWolf  7 років тому +1

      Sometimes between facelifts we have seen some slight revisions to the powertrain as well so while it likely won't be anything ground breaking I bet we will see several new welcome additions to the car beyond just a facelift.

    Is this all applicable to the STI?

    • @DJWolf
      @DJWolf  7 років тому +1

      The STI has a different transmission but there are mods that make it more mechanical feeling as well, they are not the same part # tho. Other than the shifter mods it's the same for both cars.
