Having done a canal holiday I can tell you it isn't a great sound when it is all you hear all day. Out in the countryside it would be nice to hear the birds and sounds of nature or even someone at the front asking you a question without having to raise their voice. However on a canal boat all you can hear is the relentless chug of a diesel engine for hour after hour. I vowed I wouldn't do another canal boat holiday until I could rent an electric powered boat. One day I hope that our canals will be free of this dreadful noise and once again return to the quiet places they would have been in the days of horse drawn barges.
