😂
Trying to save $15.00 in fuel, got 30 minutes of high anxiety...... lol. Glad you made it to the charging station. Thank you for sharing.
Lol, but i still have 15 bucks haha
in economy car probably closer $5 in fuel
40 km is 80 oz of fuel, but whos counting. The electricity costs more.
@@FFE-js2zp you are right. At current price, it would cost around $0.99USD in electricity cost to travel 40km versus $0.24USD in gasoline cost. However, he got to charge the car for free, so he is still coming out ahead.,,,,lol.
@@lan2me
NY Times, Feb 20, 2021: “My savings are gone,” said Scott Willoughby, a 63-year-old Army veteran who lives on Social Security payments in a Dallas suburb. He said he had nearly emptied his savings account so that he would be able to pay the $16,752 electric bill charged to his credit card - 70 times what he usually pays for all of his utilities combined. “There’s nothing I can do about it, but it’s broken me. Mr. Willoughby is among scores of Texans who have reported skyrocketing electric bills."
Caused by EV panic charging. Thousands froze to death when EVs broke the grid in 8F cold, denying 33,000,000 power for 4 days.
He was one of the unlucky ones who's plan forces them to pay the market rate each month. I was in the "lucky" group who had involuntarily loans rolled out for 10 years. That's to pay for 4 days of no electricity. Coming soon to a broken grid near you. Catastrophic failure of the EV stupidity.
Love it. I got 6 bars on mine, but have yet to take it THAT low like you did lol. Bought mine from my brother for $1500 so can't complaint. Funny to drive it for a few weeks and then we took the Bolt out the other day, drove all day in it and got home and it still had 165 miles of range LOL!
haha thats sick, what a great price, sorry just seeing this now. that bolt is a beast to have that much range!
Love the video!!! It reminds me of my youth when I put a gas can in the back of my mustang and just drove it to see what would happen when I ran out of gas. I ran out right downtown and had to block traffic while I put in the 1 gallon from the can because all the parking spots on side of street were filled. Won't do it again but totally worth it to just 'see what happens'. Love it!!
haha thats awesome lol
Oh!, I thought I was the only one doing it.... I drove my Daytona until it ran empty. It's a strange feeling when running on vapor. .....When the tank was empty, filled in the gas. It'd took 10 minutes before I could restarted the car.. lol
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste.. 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
I am living this! I have been trying to move cross country from Nevada to New Hampshire in a 2012 with 7 bars and am currently outside Provo after 5 days and two tows through the desert! I don't have the cold weather affecting my charge, but I don't like how the old models won't regenerate well unless the battery is half used. I may do the battery upgrade for 7000. I also love Plug Share for finding multiple station types And I recommend the 440 quick charge!
I have a 2013 leaf I have 11 bars I drove it with zero battery energy I didn’t want to chance to see how far I can go but I could probably go at least 18 to 20 miles With no power showing after watching this.. i’m glad you made it to your charger good grief we drive a leaf😀
haha, it was a fun video!
Get yourself a LEAFSpy app or make additional display like I did which shows exactly how much power is left in battery pack. We been panicking also on our first 3500 km Euro trip because of this inaccurate LEAF guessometer and because we owned vehicle just for two weeks.
Take the parking brak off, that might help!
hah it doesn't work atm
You need to put 6 or so of your 16s house batteries in series and setup a switch to connect them into the HV battery loop then you could add some more serious range to the car. I guess ideally you would also have HV contactors that auto disconnect if there is a fault or anything.
im adding 28 Kwh to it in January
@@GoingOffGrid101 looking forward to seeing that!
That car would be perfect for me. My work is 10 miles away. To bad they price them out of most peoples price range. Used market can be good but not many used ones in my area. One day tho. I'll have a good used one for cheap.
I find em all the time for under $5k
Heck, I just bought a 2013 Leaf SL (the fancy model with all the stuff) with a 10 bar battery (a solid 60 miles of range - or 80 if you treat it really gentle) for 4 grand US.
@@MrTwostring yeah but it matters what states you live in .... California Colorado Maryland DC Oregon Washington.... those states have the right bills in place so that all electric cars are available to them.... where I am in Fairfield County we get no advertisements for electric cars we never see electric cars ...only Tesla's.... I had to get my Leaf from colorado....
I finally saw a leaf for sale around me , and it was an 8-bar car , with a tow hitch( bad idea to buy a used car that has towed things prior) from 2011 he wanted $6k for it !
This car was not a looker either.... my car looks like you can sell it brand new out of the showroom right now .... hopefully you have the gunmetal gray and the tech Wheels like me.... that blue is atrocious... and the regular Alloy rims look corny and are not aerodynamic... mine came with no camera system tho... how about yours ?
@@matthewzizzo4586 My leaf is black or dark grey and has more scratches than I care for. I want to try buffing some of them out, since I hope to have this car a long time. I'm thinking about making a UA-cam channel about all this, but in the meanwhile I've started collecting ideas on my FB page called "Ordinary Electric."
I don't think I've ever seen an ad for a Nissan Leaf. I've had friends with them but I never paid that much attention -- till I decided I wanted an electric car.
Just did 580km in my Bolt yesterday (Ottawa Montreal). Charged a few times (Quebec has a lot of good charging locations). Aside from the last leg home (where we only charged to 65% before leaving QC) I never had less than 100km range left on the battery.... :-)
I never even have 100 km lmao
@@GoingOffGrid101 to be fair my Bolt is 1 years old and only has 23,000km on it :-)
@@tomstdenis i have put around 5000KM on mine
Ice car at it's best. Thank god for seat warmers. Lol I love driving my leaf.
Wow be safe thanks
Wow what a nail biter that adventure was.
wow that was intense ! Glad U made it. happy new Year.
lol yea it was, ended well, got a free charge out of it :D
These colder temps sure dont help with the range even my 2018 40kw is cut almost in half during winter
yea, im going to start my 28KWH extender battery really soon.
Do you precondition your battery before trips? That can help.
@@InnovativeSustainableSolutions it was only around 0 when i started so no
@@GoingOffGrid101 When possible, set your car to charge up to 100%, right at the time you are ready to leave. Charging warms the battery, increasing the capacity, so you can depart with a few extra miles. Just time it right so you don't have to vehicle sitting there for an extended period at 100%, which can damage the batt.
So beautiful out there. You so lucky I live in Los Angeles.
Definitely a finger biter! I strongly suggest to anyone with an electric car to NEVER do like this guy did. You can really damage a battery by discharging it so much. Sure the computer is pretty good at limiting the amps but do you really want to risk a $5000 repair bill from simply pushing the car too far? And all for something silly like going to a store that he knew was likely too far away too! sheeze!
Hahaha yeaaa lol good video though?
@@GoingOffGrid101 Good video! Please add the caution I mentioned.
Wow thats wildly not true.
@@silvy7394 Wow you are totally clueless about batteries.
So is that the parking brake flashing red? Never seen that before...
The brake is still on that’s why the regen isn’t working good
my 2013 does this too! I have never managed to totally flatten it
My 2016 Nissan Leaf shows a Red exclamation point in a Red triangle but that goes away when I am driving the car & comes back on when at idle or when I put in park. What does that red master warning light mean?
@Medmann48 I'll have to look at the code, it normally is a high voltage code, I just Lear mine and they don't come back for a long time if your lucky
Clear Battery Capacity Loss Bar Nissan LEAF 2014 ?
Thank you for the video. I'm curious to what battery capacity you got. I have 2015 mod 24kwh with 12/12 battery health.
i can drive about 180 km going around 90kmh
You said the regen was weak on this car, but I noticed you weren't using high regen mode (you would see a B on the dash instead of D or ECO)?
at one point I had it in D by mistake only for about 5 mins
At the start the battery was cold so that limits regen. Also his battery is in pretty poor condition. The more batterys degrade the less current they can take until they hit their max voltage while charging. In an EV that means an older battery has little to no regen at any time, as regen pushes quite a bit of power into the battery at once.
If you look at his dash you can see how much regen is available.
Will that was a Nail Biter !! Good thing it has a bit of a Reserve ... Great Video had me worried for a moment!! ...What do you think of the new Tesla Cyber-Truck? No Range issue with that EV especially the 3 motor version 200+K battery !
I want so bad :D
thanks ! ! ! & Happy New Year
Can you not put a battery warmer while your charging at home? What is the difference between the dark 3000W and the White 3000W inverter? Thanks a head of time.
I cant control the battery warmer, and i think they are both the same.
didn't realize these vehicles hate inclines!!
Am I the only one super annoyed by the flashing red light on the dash? What's going on there?
You mean the handbrake light? I think it's broken, my father's VW were doing the same :)
Is it really worth the aggravation?
Or the $17,000/month electric bill cost (that is the actual cost for those with market rate driven bills in Texas for Feb, when EV panic charging caused a 4 day failure and froze thousands of people to death)? The other 2 grids are next.
Those with locked rates had their bills increased for 10 years.
@@FFE-js2zp what are you talking about? I'm not In the USA but I gather there was a power grid failure . I have not heard of thousands of people of freezing to death though . Are you being facetious or something ?
I’m confused as to what to look at? Do you look at the thing with the red and then the white for battery capacity?
nothing really to look at it didn't show much increase cause the computer doesn't see the new battery, but for every 3 km I drive I only lose one km on the car.
ya but you did make it lol Those batteries should be good for 150 kms soon time to make another battery bank and get some new one for the car.
i have been looking for a new battery but I cant find any with more then 60% life.
@@GoingOffGrid101 What about Battery Hookup they have leaf cells for $50 batteryhookup.com/
I talked to a good friend at Nissan and he called for me to Nissan on my car when I had the car their for GPS upgrade. He told me Nissan is about to have a referbished market start up soon and the warrantie the same as new and at most if you own a leaf is 5500 new with old batts turned in. So not bad deal for new power. Its 2020 when should be starting up. Lol my other Friend works at Nissan plant in TN and going to use discount to get new batts someday here I think he said was 30% off. I sure maybe able to work something out with this later. Will see what the limit on the discount is. I'm like a hour away or so.

@@GoingOffGrid101 why open it I have much easier better idea to fix this range issue
is there no DC fast charge ? I have not taken my leaf more then 5 Km on the three dashes
The flashing p means ur parking brake is still on that’s why ur regen isn’t good
O really, hmm might try and fix this
the heated seats & steering wheel are powered by the 12v battery, so using them doesn't affect range.
and the 12 volt battery is changed by the traction battery numnucks.
@@silvy7394 On the SL Model it can be charged by the solar panel on the roof.
@@davidhood9712 Dude that solar panel if you're lucky produces 5 watts, or about .3A. Its only there maintain the 12v battery. It doesnt do jack shit for powering ANYTHING in the car. Even the radio uses more power than that thing produces.
@@silvy7394 The solar panel is the only system that consistently charges the 12-volt battery. The DC-DC converter for the traction battery only kicks in sporadically, and only after about an hour as stated by this video: ua-cam.com/video/orcmSypNffs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TheEvolvingWorld
@@davidhood9712 Well I'm sorry but that's not true. The DC-DC converter kicks on whenever the high voltage system is on. Seeing you're an idiot and don't believe me do this: (besides googling it) connect your Leafs computer to your phone and monitor all battery voltages. Before you turn the car on realize the 12v battery is around 11-13 volts. Now turn the car on and witness the voltage jump to 13.5-14.4 volts (proper charge voltage for SLA's). Also simple common sense says a battery that small can't run the cars 12v systems for long by itself (maybe 10 mins)
You got 2 battery temp bars? You sure you didn't ever push it over 30kW of power? This is a waste when accelerating too fast with high resistance battery.
I did not go about 30, at least I never saw it go over lol
Ok. Then resistance is so high that it wastes noticeable chunk of energy to warm up. Yea. Really worn battery :D
@@tarassu yes i would love a new one haha

@@leasttrending Yes. You can find one for 4 to 5.
Do all charge stations charge all cars or just teslas or other cars
they are most, but tesla charges are for tesla
Pretty much EVERY EV (Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi iMiev, Chevrolet Bolt, Ford Fusion, Fiat 500e, VW e-Golf, Teslas, the BMW i3) all use the J1772 plug. This is the standard plug used at most of these public charging stations. They dont charge very fast (1 mile every 5 minutes or so), but you can use the plugs at your house overnight to fuel up while you sleep

@@GoingOffGrid101 Driving to that Depth of Discharge is highly detrimental to the overall longevity of the battery though. If you want to get the maximum cycle life outta that battery you really want to try and keep your state of charge between 20-80%.
