Great way to organize Christmas decor. I have done something a bit similar, setting aside three boxes for tree decor, two of them for a large tree. We've had some difficult seasons, and I realized this way I can at least get trees done, and if that's all I'm able to do, so be it. It gives me peace going into the holiday.
I really downsized this year, since we have now retired I am down to two rubbermaid containers, tree, and a ornament box I bought .. I was ruthless this year donating Love how you stored away Christmas by room, such a great idea I noticed the tiny little santa and reindeer and sled in the childrens box, I had seen a utuber put that little sled on top of a globe, it looked precious… You have the perfect spot for the treadmill, you will love not walking in the bitter cold
@@OldWorldHome Hillary, was it your video that I also saw the Santa on top of the globe? I know I have seen it a few times and loved it I saw your plaid coffee mug today at a thrift store, I was so excited, I was going to buy it for you, until I felt a chip on the lip of the cup….
Hi Hilary, Great video. I started labeling my Christmas bins by room during pandemic after decluttering my decor. It has made a world of difference these last 2 seasons. My husband knows exactly where each bin goes when he is helping me bring them up from the basement and they don't all end up in the kitchen in a jumble. Great idea on the Christmas mugs though. I have a few that we use during the season and it makes more sense to store them above our fridge which is also a little used cabinet. I will do that for sure this coming weekend! Love your videos and all of your content. We are in a different stage of life being empty nesters nearing retirement. Our 2 children are almost 33 and 31 and living in London and San Francisco. We are in NH! I still learn something from every one of your videos and thoroughly enjoy seeing your beautiful home and family. Well done!
I've packed the Christmas decorations away by room for several years, and it's made it so much easier to decorate. Everything I need is stored together, and I can take out one bin at a time.
I loved watching how you organized all your things! Next December, after you put all your decor out, you could also use some of the empty bins to store Christmas presents before you have a chance to wrap them and give them away.
It's so funny how our homes are a cycle of things coming in and things going out. If we could only look down into our homes and watch the behaviors, I think it'd be quite comical. You will appreciate the work you did now for next years future self. Enjoy the treadmill!!!!
Disclaimer I’m not a minimalist 😁In my bins I sort them by theme. Then the fragile separated by the theme too. I have 4 themes and 2 of them are interchangeable. Labeled bins make it easy to get them up stairs from the basement. Have a blessed week Hilary!
Great video. I have been storing my Christmas decor by room for several years and love it. As you mentioned I store my everyday decor that is swapped out when I decorate for Christmas in their respective bins for each room so it makes it very simple. The great thing too is that when I remove the Christmas items the clean slate before putting back the everyday decor is a great motivator to re-evaluate each item and how I feel about it and see if I can pare anything down and simplify. Your storage room looks great. Is it weird that tidy, streamlined spaces like that make me absolutely giddy 😂? Thanks for sharing. Have a lovely day 😊.
Hi Hilary. Great idea to label your bins. I may have to try that next time. You are so fortunate to have all your basement space. I would love to have that. 😊
Bins by room is a great suggestion. I don't have that much decor anymore, downsized over the years, kids grown, live in other states. I have 3 fabric collapsible bins that fit the top shelf of my pantry. 1st one is items I put up on the 1st Sunday in December, Advent Calendar, nativity scene, books, etc. 2nd bin is only tree decor. I have 2 trees, a 3 ft and a 1 ft. Only put the 1 ft when it's me; both when family coming for Christmas. 3rd bin is memorabilia/keepsakes. I like seeing everyones suggestions.
Great job, Hillary. You will love yourself next year when you Christmas decorate again. Your home is beautiful all the time, but especially at Christmas.
I didn’t declutter so much as re-organize my bins after Christmas this year. I was prompted to do so when I came up on my cloth Christmas napkins that I use for our family Christmas brunch. They were wrinkled and needed, pressing and I didn’t have time. Fortunately, I had some cute paper, Christmas napkins that we used. However, I missed having the cloth napkins and so now all my dining kitchen cooking Christmas items are in one bin. And all the other Christmas items are better organized… Feels so good!!!
I like to pack each room in a bin too. I even put my Xmas ornaments in the box with the tree. I put my Ornaments in ziploc bags and put them in the box in between the branches. One less bin to store.
Hilary, I hope you love your treadmill! I bought my first one at 22, I’m now on my third one at 48. It’s my favorite part of my daily routine, I feel so good and I hope you will too!
I've usually thrown things in bins quickly when putting away and then get frustrated with the disorganization when I pull them out to decorate. I love the idea of storing by room.
My word of the year is mindful. When I went to put my Christmas decor away this year I was much more mindful about where it went. I got rid of some items I never use and put decor away in bins labeled by room. This will be so much easier next year. I also take pics of my decor every year which I find helpful even if I switch things up.
I do the same thing with my cabinets above the refrigerator. I have a Christmas tea set and a few Christmas mugs. I wish we had a basement! Having that storage space would be amazing. I love my treadmill. I watch TV or UA-cam while walking.
I’ve been decluttering now that Christmas decor is away, and took 3 boxes of items to the donation center. It feels good to be clutter free and bless others in the process.
I need to organize my Christmas things. I don't put as much out as I use to. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love the Lord's Birthday. Your basement looks so good. Remodeling it for the uses you use it for was such a great idea. Your mantle decor was beautiful last year. Thanks for sharing this video. ❤️🌹❤️
Wonderful video Hilary, I have done the very same and you will love your treadmill, I love ours, you can always walk any time of day or night and in any kind of weather! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! You are so smart and amazingly well organized. Your future self will thank you, and you can enjoy decorating in peace next December with your family. Wishing you and your lovely family all the best in 2023!
Love this concept! I am struggling with letting go of items I may potentially use in future Christmas' to come and that have sentimental value. But I will keep trying!
COVID and other issues.....don't lose your phone ladies!!!! Hospital....other health issues and I am finally back! So going backwards to catch up with one of my favorite shows!!!! Can't wait. Best to everyone!
Hi Hillary, well' I have much more decluttering to do now. I would like to revamp all the holiday and seasonal storage areas in our garage. A definite work in progress!
Just a thought...you could put a pull- down movie screen above the electric panels wall. You could project photos or movies while you did the treadmill.
Great way to put it all away 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️ you will enjoy having the treadmill there especially for the winter. We have tons of snow here and it’s cold (19 degrees). I have been doing yoga every morning before coffee and I feel great! Where did you purchase your treadmill? I had a stair stepper years ago like when my son was young and I loved having my own piece of equipment at home
Yes Ruggable! I just used regular wall paint, same color and finish as our walls (Sherwin Williams anew gray in flat, I did water it down just a little)
Going through my decor. I want more of a neutral look next year , so I am probably going to post the decor that I don’t want. I want a basement so much. In California, you really don’t see them. 🤷♀️ Edit.. 🙈 I love having a treadmill, I run on it all the time.❤️

I absolutely love that ❤️
Yes! Decorating is great as long as it doesn't detract from my Christmas joy.
Thanks for the storage inspiration. Taking just a little extra time to store things properly really does help when it comes time to decorate again.
I love how you put the decor in bins for room by room,. You gave us some very helpful tips. Thank you, your home is so beautiful and put together.

That’s so great! Perhaps it was Rachel from sweet and simple home, she was I my inspiration ☺️

You are an inspiration and so wonderful! I love your new storage idea about keeping items for room to room. And way to go on the treadmill!

👏 Great job 10:38 !!!❤. I adore your storage space! Enjoy your walks ! God bless, and see you soon!❤🙏🏻
Great job Hilary! I so aspire to get my Christmas bins pared down.

Feels great to be organized! Well done
Great way to begin this year and prepare to end next year 👍🏻

I do the same...One bin at a time. I have 5 medium sized bins (Easy to carry)and a bag for the Christmas Tree to be in. It's so easy.
I put a treadmill in my basement too, best decision ever...I watch You Tube and the time flies. Doing two things at once.
..
Yes! Your future self will thank you! What a wonderful Christmas present 🎁 for 2023😊

Hello from Ireland🍀
I do the same thing, stored in bends for each room. Sometimes I might only decorate one room, so the other bends stay put.
Enjoyed.
Great ideas , I have been decluttering my Christmas stuff too. I will see how good I did come December 1st. When I decorate for Christmas again .
Always feels great to organize and set things up in a clean space.

I like the idea of the mugs in the cabinets above the fridge. I have cabinets like that and plenty of Christmas mugs.
I’ve been doing that for years. Makes it super easy and nice use of those hard to reach cabinets.
Same here!
Love this concept! I am struggling with letting go of items I may potentially use in future Christmas' to come and that have sentimental value. But I will keep trying!
Wonderful job Hilary! I do the same with the bins. Have a nice day today. 😊
I suppose once you’ve been in a home for so many years you start to do similar things year after year. Maybe for me it’s a 5+ year realization 😅
Those trees in that donate box were cute.
I like the new name tags.
I need to downsize.
Yes they were cute but I haven’t used them in years, I only have so many surfaces
