They can use it to trap soldiers that enter if they breach the wooden doors. It is a tactic used to kill off more soldiers when they enter but the iron gate prevents them from escaping but because they left they closed it after the battle.

@@spearshake4771 Kneel down and hug the wall as closely as possible with shields raised up above the head would be better than what they did tho. Some of them Stood with raised shields in the middle of a open courtyard, proffessional soldiers would not be this foolish. Standing makes you a much bigger target but if you kneel you can protect your whole body with a raised shield, that combined with using walls as protection goes a long way

The comment section about this battle didn't disappoint. There is no way those volleys of arrows would have been that effective. If they were that effective there is no way they would have stopped to send a bunch of guys up ladders where the defenders would have the advantage.
I enjoyed most of the first season of this show but it just started to go off the rails after they got the grail back. It just felt like everything was being prolonged and the action scenes felt inexplicably set up and executed. When they killed off the young guy who was chasing his girlfriend’s killer it was like why did they even make him a main character? He barely did anything.
Awesome Best Except Ned actually contributed to the plot. His character and deaths set up all the major events for the later seasons whilst the same cannot be said for knightfall.
Some kind of metal head covering shaped to deflect arrows might have proved useful also standing in the open whilst it’s raining arrows may not be the best move tactically speaking.
Well at least it wasn't a broadhead or bodkin dipped in fire for a sec before being loosed x) But I wonder how hard it would have been to depict a dozen extras releasing a couple of volleys of those same arrows with coals and pitch stuffed in the head, as they are supposed to be used....

The writer who wrote this Episode should be Fired, they have this Huge build up to the battle, the King waves his Flag, to tell them No Surrender, No Mercy!! Fight to the Death!!! and what happens? He gets a hold of Landry and they all just give up, (sigh...) a gold fish would have a better imagination.
so... some of those suits of mail even have mail coifs dangling down the back and high quality riveted mail the rich templars had was very effective against arrows. not to mention that castles are designed to resist sieges. there are places to hide from arrows and the fact that they're raised 20 plus feet higher than their attacks gives them a range advantage too. the more likely scenario would be some forms of siege engines and the templars firing arrows at them. one of the problems with arrows in sieges is that eventually the defenders run out. half the time they were just starving them out of resources. if you fire lots of volleys they can just go pick your spent arrows and fire them back at you.
The Templar castle is still standing to this day I don’t think they wanted to damage it because they wanted the property and money and relics inside it
Although not the most Accurate show, it’s still one of the most entertaining shows I’ve seen in a while. The story is intriguing and for the most part the characters are enjoyable. Would definitely recommend watching the full show if your looking for something to binge for a couple of days. Again the show is good but definitely not anything mind blowing

"Fire" arrows were used. I was even surprised to see the right head being used (they usually just use a bodkin or broadhad and stick it in a fire....). However... what did they stuff in that head? At the time, they used burning coals (because flames were snuffed out that's true. The way it worked was: you release the arrow with a burning coal in the head and pitch. On impact, the head is squiched, breaking apart the coal and sending shards flying everywhere around along with the pitch, thus starting a fire. It did demand a lot of arrows, indeed, on prepared surfaces. Rooves in cities were watered during sieges to counter that. On a volatile material tho, it might have worked that quickly. To be noted that there was no apparent flame on the arrow once it was loosed tho, since it was snuffed out. But the coal kept burning inside. And that's even better, otherwise the pitch would have been spent in flight rather than splashing a surface on impact. As for the stopping power of an arrow @Felix Crawfurd: yes indeed. But that is due to blunt impact. That doesn't mean there is any damage done to the target. Even less that it pierced the armor. Could be done with gigantic luck, but even then you still have padding, and then it has to penetrate the body enough to seriously wound. You can twang a dude with a sword on his helmet and make his ears ring, doesn't mean you're going to cut him in half.
The French armies battle tactics are so dimwitted. Why would they place all of their gunpowder in ONE SPOT, and WITHIN RANGE of archer fire of the templar castle? If only they moved the gunpowder out of range, and built the siege tower out of sight of the castle, they wouldn't have had any problems!

Then you probably never seen much castles or fortresses in your life, walls are there to prevent attackers to rush in, of course if the walls are taller even better but I would like to see you try to climb these "tiny" walls with archers shooting you down while you run for it and while you climbing the stairs people throwing the stairs aways or tossing stones at you and when you finally reach the top you have a trained soldier with a shield and a axe/sword/lance stabbing you while you trying to get of the stairs, not every fortress have a huge wall.

I watched S1, loved it. Love the story but mostly loved the combat more. S2 however, I watched half of the first episode and I couldn't watch anymore. Idk but everything felt off. Im not surprised there's no S3. Can someone tell me how it ends?
(Quick run down) MC has to retrain as an initiate, growing along side other initiates until they are promoted to the rank of Templar,which took almost half of the season to complete. The King sent the prince to kill all of the children with similar birth dates as the MCs kid, which the prince eventually finds but decides to cover for once he realizes that the King killed the Queen, which the King claimed the MC did. The Templars are eventually besieged and they surrender, leading to them being burned at the stake. At the last moment, the MC and a few surviving Main Characters make they're escape. The MC then goes to the castle and kills the king. THIS IS EXTREMELY CUT SHORT, I HAVE LEFT OUT KEY INFO IF YOU WANT TO SEARCH FOR YOURSELF.
I really do love this series but this siege was just so disappointing, the French are using longbows for some reason, the Templars don't put on helmets, and allot of the action is just really stagnant even when it's in motion. Just look at when the French scale the wall with ladders. The way they climb to the top and they're just clanking away at each other. There's nothing stylistic about it, just cuts from one boring angle to the next. It looks like a medieval movie from the 50's like Ivanhoe or Knights of the Round Table where they didn't want to choreograph anything but they don't want the actors to hurt each other so they just tap back and forth with tin weapons.
I so wished they'd make a 3rd season. I loved this. Really.

The costume design for the soldiers and the knights is great
well the Templars are too clone-like..too many big red crosses..no helmets and all with just chainmail..could be better..could be worse..

The Templars are eventually besieged and they surrender, leading to them being burned at the stake. At the last moment, the MC and a few surviving Main Characters make they're escape. I really do love this series but this siege was just so disappointing, the French are using longbows for some reason, the Templars don't put on helmets, and allot of the action is just really stagnant even when it's in motion. Just look at when the French scale the wall with ladders. The way they climb to the top and they're just clanking away at each other. There's nothing stylistic about it, just cuts from one boring angle to the next. It looks like a medieval movie from the 50's like Ivanhoe or Knights of the Round Table where they didn't want to choreograph anything but they don't want the actors to hurt each other so they just tap back and forth with tin weapons.
