Wonder what all these animals think of Kevin. "He comes, he scratches, he feeds, he talks, he nice."
I love the spotted hyena. I’m interested in the higher archy... how the females run the the clan and not the males.
@@PoetryInMotionXo The hierarchy is very interesting. The females tend to be larger and rule he clan. Then a Male lion shows up and fucks up their day.
@Anna K الكنتعزب🐷🐶🐕🐹🐩🐺🐤🐣🐣🐰🐏🐏🐏🐦🐢🐱🐐🐃🐂
I don’t know but all I can say is that my dog was extremely intelligent and he had much more advanced and nuanced thought processes.l than that
@@Brutis A female lion (2 of them) could scare 25 of them, a single female in their pack would kill you instantly.
I love how Geena just trusts him entirely, enough that she rests her head against his lap and closes her eyes, and shows him her neck and stuff. Absolute amazing. Such beautiful animals!
I have no idea if you know Trelli but if not I would look him up. Him and Kevin were the best buddies and Kevin could literally pick him up and spin him around. He would also ride in the car and he liked to escape to piss off the lions. Talking about a character. :D
@@how2pick4name Trelli was in the documentary Dangerous Companions. You can see a low res version of it here: ua-cam.com/video/YXnOzsRaYU0/v-deo.html Wish I could find a good copy to buy.
Bongo the hyena and Bobcat the black-maned lion are two others who are similar in temperament to Geena who will also cuddle up to Kevin and sleep on him. Think they're all kindred spirits? 😊😊🦁
Agreed.
@@transcan1 thank you for sharing the link !
I've never seen a hyena getting scritches. 10/10. You are a lucky, blessed man to have that kind of repore with such incredible animals.
They certainly are incredible! Thanks Whyte!
I never realized how massive Hyena's were. The muzzle and jaws on them are intimidating.
Their bite force is also intimidating.
Spri-Lion Blacklion wrong😂😂 no hyena have ever intimated a lion, I’ve seen 1 lion fight off a pack of hyenas for 30 mins straight till his brother came and saved him! Hyenas are easy fight for lions‼️
@@Kam-it1hq That's such a stupid statement. Hyenas are pack hunters and scavengers, they do their best to avoid danger and injury so their method of fighting anything strong and big is to tire it out and then attack, which is what tgey were trying to do with a lion.
Ther a chunk smaller then my naybors dog
Her name is beba (baby in Macedonian)
And she is a Шар планинец a mountain dog and looks like a bear a German shepord and a mastif had a baby and she has a psudo lion mayin (dono how to spell it)

This dude definitely cares about his animals. I’m glad to see that.
Yes. I really like this man.
They’re not “his”. They’re not property.
Yes a fascinating guy who is very knowledgeable, his videos are very informative and interesting. Glad there are individuals such as him doing these amazing creatures bidding.
@@ObjectiveMedia bruh we know that idiot
@@ObjectiveMedia Implying that "his" refers to property can be dangerous lol. What about his mother? His country? Those are hardly his property.
It's funny how they look like dogs but are actually related more to cats.
Convergence Awesome.
They are of a kinda combination on critters with mongus being their closest cusin.. Fascynating animals absolutly beoutiful in my eyes 😁
Exactly!!!!!!! And if they were the same size as lions the tables would be turned so bad
Yeah, they have a lot of convergent evolution with dogs! However, they also have a lot of cat qualities and behaviors that aren't as often mentioned. Their grooming habits for example are like cats and they will groom themselves to keep clean. Their parental behavior is also like that of cats. They dig away their poo and then don't scent mark with urine the same way dogs do. They don't rely as much on smell for navigation and can see very well. Some also like catnip as you can see in this video.
That is so true
No lie, I'd be sweating bullets dealing with them. Nancy is like that raptor in Jurassic Park, feels like she's plotting something. Beautiful beasts.
Well put
She's a clevah girl.

Kevin has really educated me about hyenas, not the unsophisticated animals I thought they were at all. Also just how beautiful they are
So great to hear that! 😊
Kevin I agree, I didn’t realize how powerful they are. They are lethal hunters...
Same! I love them now and didn’t know how intelligent and complex they are. Fascinating creatures.
I think the lion King movie, as well as they're portrayal in nature documentaries are largely responsible for why they're so misunderstood.

@Zalika The Hyena 12
This is the way, that animals should be treated, with love and respect. I can understand why Kevin has developed such a great bond with them.
Kevin is really respectful and cautious of Nancy. He never leaves her out of his peripheral and whenever she goes behind him, he always eyes her. They are cautious of each other. Very interesting. Kevin seems to be at par with the Matriarch as well in terms of hierarchy.
He's that way with Bongo's clan too.
I'm guessing that once she takes over the clan and understands Kevin is not a contender for leadership, she may chill out.
@@DinnerForkTongue That's actually a really good point. Even thinking of Kevin as at the same level as Geena didn't lead me to that conclusion. Nancy probably sees Kevin as a threat to her plans to overthrow Geena.
I think that's the main reason for the behaviour. She sees him on par.
Nancy makes me nervous 😬
Hyena clans have always fascinated me, their hierarchy is more proof on how complex and beautiful nature is. Another amazing video Kev 💙

When I was 13 (2019), my family and I visited a few countries in Africa and went on several safaris and our guide was so surprised about my interest in spotted hyenas. He said they were his favorite animal and since they were, and still are, mine as well, we spent a lot of time talking about them and so on. It was so precious cause he weren't used to anyone being so excited about them and not lions etc.
I really appreciate what Kevin Richardson does for these animals. A lot of people view hyenas as nasty scavengers. They are just amazing scavengers. Thank you for all you do for these awesome creatures!!!
Absolutely! 🙌
Despite the name of this channel being The Lion Whisperer, I actually look forward more to seeing the hyenas than anything else. That's not to say that I don't also enjoy the other videos, but there's just something about the hyenas that makes them especially lovable to me.
~ 100% agree! I love these animals a lot too xx
Yes I find the Hyenas the most fascinating & adorable.

It' so interesting how different Geena and Nancy are personality-wise.
Having the leader be so affectionate towards you and knowing that the successor isn't, has to tbe quite a bummer.
if i remember right nancy isn’t very affectionate because when geena had her, geena kept them hidden away from kevin so they weren’t able to build the same relationship with kevin 😲
@Michael David, I think you've got it. Kevin has said that he raised Geena from a cub, and she raised Nancy. She was very protective of her cubs and wouldn't let Kevin near them, as she lost her first one when it was killed by another hyena shortly after being born.
@@tonynagy2042 Nancy still has time to build up trust in Kevin before Geena is likely to die. There was a recent video where she was allowing Kevin to scratch her head (LOL He was tickled too!), and was staying fairly near him. She's come a long way from when she was younger and would only dart at him and try to nip or catch the camera.
@@transcan1
Kevin, When Nancy becomes in charge after Geena's passing, will it still be safe for you to enter their area giving that Nancy has trust issues?
Nancy makes me feel really anxious watching this video. I know she's not evil or anything, but don't really feel it's safe to regularly hang around an animal like that.
@@shatter382 He's been around these animals for decades. You should watch more videos from this channel. It's majestically amazing.
I was wondering that, too. I have a feeling that things will change a lot when that day comes.
I think her problem stems from him being a male (albeit of a different species). She can smell the testosterone on him and instinctively considers him to be lesser, but he's not. It will be interesting when Nancy's in charge.
Geena seems to be in amazing condition, I had no idea they could live so long, presumably in the wild life would be much more of a challenge for them! Their skulls are massive, I'm guessing they are much more powerful than a large domestic dog! Very happy to have found your channel, stay safe.
I woke up today in California and saw you had a new video. It’s been tough here with Covid as I work in the ER and this is such a refreshing watch. Thank you for your reality!

Don't want to rain on your parade, but I think you overrate Ringo Star. Image how good The Beatles would have been with drummers like Jeff Porcaro, Vinnie Colaiuta or Manu Katché. Or Steve Gadd incase you really want a drummer with a beard.
I love how all of the animals accept you into all their different packs. Geena looks so sweet when you’re scratching her chin 🥺 Cute but deadly with a strong jaw 😳 still so precious. Before this I’ve only ever known hyenas from the lion king lol, as little dirty sneaky scoundrels.
But they are actually some really smart, cute, and organized little group. 💗
To be sneaky, there needs to be intelligence.
@thelionwhisperer The way you interact and, most importantly, understand and respect these animals is just phenomenal. This world needs human beings like you. Thank you. Thank you.

It's amazing that the concept of a monarchy exists even in the animal kingdom. Probably explains why it's been with mankind for so many centuries.
That being said, just because monarchies occur in nature, that doesn't mean they are the best way to organize society.
Call it a hierarchy, not monarchy. Monarchy is just one type of hierarchy. Hierarchy is intrinsic to our being (and many other animals).
Although we spent most of our ancestry with freedom and equality and certainly no leadership.
The intact ecosystem being the only true boss needed!
Our gift to the universe being egalitarianism.
A definite move away from ape and chimp hierarchical society.
Or rather their ancestors and ours.
It's the gatherer hunting on the move that triggered our unique cooperation.
Then a mere 7 to 10 thousand years ago we were sadly re indoctrinated into the ancestral style of hierarchy.
The domestication of wheat and grazing mammals led to the creation of the first capital in the form of stored grain..something to fight for. to defend. to steal.
Central organisation that springs from the nature of agriculture lends itself to god like elites and a huge servant class of workers for planting and harvesting.
In between testosterone management kept the ruling elite in luxury and not usually attacked until their magic failed along with the harvest.
The trick was to get farmers to start building...roads...canals ...temples to their fertility gods ...moving massive rocks kept the growing population focussed.
As did warfare.
The average Joe Bloggs lost out big time in the transition from freedom loving fiercely egalitarian gatherer hunters to becoming a cog in the ever growing wheel of farming.
What with the military conscription. Drudgery of the plough. a raft of new zoonotic diseases and frightening plagues.
Now you suddenly get a massive drop in freedom.
obey or be punished.
Huge drop in leisure time.
longevity and height.
The drudgery disease and diet made life brutish sad and short.
With royalty came the elites population adjusting perpetual warfare ...between harvesting.
Gatherer hunters had no leaders and no such wars.
Neighbouring bands were friends and family and movement between free people was natural.
The royals were just warlords really.
An endless cycle of violence kept the farming building soldiering masses in poverty and subjugation.
Th at is about the size of it.
Given the freedom to choose people are friendly and cooperation comes easy.
The ruling elite put much effort into mind controlling us to hate the enemies of the state.
The recent arrival of democracy was a result of capital going ISM
To also manage the barons.... it wasn't intended for the masses.
In our hearts and minds and spirit humanity always craves freedom and equality .
And community.
7 billion are far easier for a ruling elite to decieve than 70!
The idea that we are still required to keep a tiny minority wealthy worked for 7 to 10 millennium .
The multi billionaires who are self identifying as eugenicists plus they have a fetish for depopulation have gone CRAZY.
Or rather they have seen they don't think their survival possible if we all continue this lifestyle that created enough CO2 to heat up the planet beyond the parameters of viable grain harvests.
The Bilderberg AGM guest list take the existential threat of climate catastrophe seriously.
They have realised their model of huge populations serving them has had its day.
It's so last century to amass ever more money.
Money can't save them or us from runaway heating
Their perenial problem of holding onto power not just money has caused a paradigm shift within their gilded palaces and fortified mansions.
They have been very busy building luxury underground bunkers.
And these capitalist PREPPERS have plans to sit out the coming collapse of the techno industrial society.
Some have ambition to go into low orbit luxurious hibernation
Techno utopians one and all they put their faith and their profits into A.I.
which is being entrusted to automate the entire lower carbon processes needed to operate a scaled down but technologically advanced system.
They have been very busy planning a party..
You won't be getting an invite...along with nearly 7 billion others.
After thousands of years and the rise and fall of a dozen or so grain based civilisations...This one is coming to an with their own made eco disaster far worse than the Mayans droughts The Sumerian super volcanic eruptions...of the many that are now occupied desserts or retaken by forests after a devastating PANDEMIC (!)
This particular downfall of our current civilisation is set to dwarf all previous collapses which other than some super volcanoes extending out into decade long winters ..This disaster movie threatens to badly damage the whole planets atmosphere...we are possibly taking out huge chunks of the plant and animal kingdoms ...it's actually quite realistic the various positive feedback mechanisms that dangerously interelate
giving way to such an Era of extreme heat that only extremophiles mostly single celled but perhaps multi celled wonders like the tiny but cute tardigrades or water bears who are very resilient by nature .
The continuation of successful living communities is probably gauranteed at those deep sea volcanic vents named black smokers ...as long as these stable vents chug along and the ocean bio chemistry is not suddenly unfavourable or if warming keeps on until the world's water boils off into space where it originally came from.
Of course not even the ingenious Bilderbergers can sit out the worst case scenarios ....on a planet where even the water is off being underground in luxury bunkers will make a top end burial chamber to rival the pharaohs.
I doubt the DVD player or I mac will tell a future alien archaeologist much...not past a few decades.
what if global warming just collapses our techno industrial grain based civilisation and the resulting famine and desertification kills all but 5 to 10thousand of us (that happened 74 thousand years ago causing a human bottle neck reducing our genetic variation )and when the pollution we pump stops...the resulting loss of "global dimming " rises global temperatures three extra degrees in just a few weeks ...temperatures which melt more of the frozen methane hydrates further inceases by methane which is far more of an effective greenhouse gas than co2 although shorter lived will raise worldwide temperatures..a lot.
If all the ice on land melts sea level rises will huge...Greenland ice alone is calculated at 23 metres rise ...globally.
If ALL the land glaciation melts including antartctica into the sea the level will be what ?
150 to 200m ?!... expect various knock on effects
losing so much coastal land...most the world's urbanisations flooded a lot of the most productive
and deepest top soils.
After all the weight of the ice gone volcanic activity will increase especially earthquakes and tsunamis
terrifying the few survivors once again.
The land masses will likely keep up lifting for thousands of years.
As today's ice free land keeps on up and up this long term isostatic rebound from when the last ice age ended causing a 430ft sea level rise around the globe.
Possibly erasing much archaeology of previous civilisations if you ask Graham Handcock and his colleague and friend Russell Carlson (or something similar?poops! )

I wonder if Kevin will still be able to “live” with them once Nancy takes charge. If she’s that suspicious I wonder how the dynamic in the clan will change
could really spoil the mood
My stupid theory is that Geena loves Kevin and told Nancy to stay away from her man and that’s why she’s so apprehensive to get too close to him.
@@jordansanchez676 that's actually probably true. Geena wants all of the food and attention and she likely puts the others in their place if they start getting too close to the human who provides for them. Nancy wants to be loved on and involved but she's afraid.
In one of his old documentaries he was working with a hyena matriarch that wasn't hand raised and didn't seem to have Kevin's trust kind of like Nancy. I do wonder the same thing though, there wasn't much shown of that hyena (Uno or something). Kevin has also talked about getting bitten by the hyenas quite a a few times so I think he'll be good at calculating the risks.

Oh, I love Geena's group! I've actually never seen them before, I've seen Bongo/Keto's group a few times, but never Geena's. Thanks, Kev, for the education u gave me about Hyenas in general. They do get a bad reputation, but they just act and behave according to their insticts. Keep 'em coming!!
Homer would be so proud to see how much you've grown. I always think of him from time to time and wish we had home around for longer then we did! He was such a wonderful little guy!
I think of Homer a lot when watching the hyenas, reference or seeing them in the back ground. He was an amazing little boy and Kevin and Homer's love and relationship was extraordinary. Saddens me to this day and so many years have passed. I can only imagine Kevin's feelings. ❤️
The hyena episodes are hands down my favourite. I love them.
Yes!! 😁
@@LionWhispererTV guys I have a few questions, if an elder matriarch loses her spot and the fighting gets so bad shes either going to be killed or exiled, is it possible to integrate her into a sort of retirement clan made up of other super old members or would they have to live in solidarity? I imagine an elder clan would be viable and still have its own structure, but would they be a slightly less rank orientated or do they fight for position until they die?
Geena has such a boopable snoot, i love her
She knows how much he loves her mother, and he's an ally, and she's an ambitious younger matriarch. She genetically inherited the traits from her mother. It's complicated for him there.
What a fascinating insight into how no two hyaenas are the same. Beautiful, beautiful animals. thanks so much for sharing Kevin
They are so beautiful and interesting 🙂 ❤️ poor Ringo ❤️
It`s interesting to see how important an accurate analysis of the nature of each animal individual is to make such close work with wildlife possible.
I remember the first time that I saw Kevin. Many years ago. He was with Geena and several others. I saw him on National Geographic. I was in awe. I still am.
All animals deserved this kind of kindness and they return it
The Lion King really gave a bad name to hyenas

A lot of safari guides HATE that movie.
I always always hated Hyenas until I started watching Kevin’s videos now I really like them Kevin taught me a lot!
Glad to hear you've changed your mind! 😁
I grew up being told that ONLY cats go crazy for catnip. To watch THIS is totally amazing and tremendous to see other species that like catnip also!!!
Geena is sooo sweet :)
Love Geena and Woody , wish I could give them a big cuddle so adorable . As always Kevin great video .🤗❤🐆🐆❤
I always thought my name and spelling 'Geena' was pretty uncommon so to hear that I share it with one of these wonderful animals in your care is so great!! Love your content!
Well, there's you, a hyena and Oscar winning actress Geena Davis, so there is at least three of you.
AHHHHH I love Spotted Hyenas so much, they’re such beautiful creatures!!!
Hyenas are beautiful and extremely fascinating animals. Thanks for your video 🙏
"Geena rules with an iron fist n anyone gets in her way will be brutally sorted out" Yikes!😲
I don't know why, but every time i see the Hyenas, i have a smile on my face.
They are wonderful I love them all 💜💜💜💜💜💜
I never knew hyena could be an absolute cuddle ball.
