A bit of trivia: The word ‘barbarian’ was onomatopoeic for the Ancient Greeks. To their ears, languages other than Greek sounded like ‘bar, bar, bar, bar, bar…’, hence people who spoke that way were barbarians. It’s also the etymology of the name Barbara which means stranger or foreigner.
When the Romans encountered Egypt, it was under the Hellenistic rule of the Ptolemaic dynasty, established by one of Alexander the Great's generals. The figures you mentioned for Egypt are from the Bronze Age, except for Cleopatra, who was of Greek/Macedonian descent. The transition from Hellenistic to Roman rule was relatively peaceful, aside from some revolts and the civil war of the Second Triumvirate. That being said, great video!
I will be a spoilsort a little bit here. Romans who fought with Carthaginians and the ones fought with Barbarians were completely different Romans. They were divide by couple hundreds years ;) Similar with Egyptians. Egyptians, which most people think about never thought with Romans or Carthaginians it was only after Alexander they fought with both. So more like Greeks than Egyptians with pyramids
2:22 What you describe is a Scandinavian mermaid, the Greek mermaid are birds with the head of a woman 5:33 Gladiators were not fighting to the death, they were more like modern MMA fighters 10:27 Actually, we know how Egyptians used to build pyramids unlike what History Channel and other alien fans want you to believe
This is seriously such a good video. You did an awesome job identifying all the minifigures that tie in with Rome. I was hoping someone would make a video like this at some point. I especially loved that you pointed out which type of gladiator was most resembled by the minifigs. Interestingly enough, the murmillo would have been armed with a rectangular shield (“scutum”), much like that of the Roman legionnaire, while a very similar gladiator known as the “hoplomachus” would fight with a circular shield, but had the exact same armor and sword as a murmillo. I had thought the lego minifig was a murmillo for awhile because of the fish-like helmet, but apparently that little shield detail changes things. Also, the “barbarian” with two swords very much resembles the “dimachaerus” gladiator, and I have since deemed it as such for the purposes of adorning my colosseum set 😅 I also found that a pearl silver trident from the aquaman sets goes great with the retiarius, rather than the gold one he comes with. Anyway, I’m just excited that someone else pointed out the specifics of all these minifigures! Love the channel so much.
Fun Fact: Flying Warriors connection to Battle Goddess might be a reference to the anime series “Saint Seiya: knights of the zodiac” where warriors with magic powers and armor named after Greek epics and constellations known as Saints work for the reincarnation of Athena, Flying Warrior closely resembles a Golden Saint: The twelve highest ranking Saint’s with golden armor themed around the Greek Zodiac.
This is definitely your best video yet! I went on my own crusade trying to research where the warrior woman was from, a long time ago when I got the figure, and couldn’t find any concrete info, but was lead to believe she reflects the appearance of an Amazonian female warrior.
I've always been under the impression she was LEGO's expy of Xena from the TV show. The black hair, the brown and bronze leather armor, the warrior aesthetic. I never considered she might be an Amazon. So thank you for expanding her usefulness to me; I originally only got her so my Spartan CMF had someone to duel with lol
Idk why but when people say a Faun is from Greek mythology it annoys me a ton because a Faun is the Roman name for the creature whereas the actual name and the actual one from Greek mythology, is a satyr
Brad I saw the new Orion minifugere and I saw the torso had no purple on it and was silver. Perhaps the torso could be used for a Roman or Greek soldier
Nice video! I really enjoy these types of minifigures - just to say there is a limited edition batman figure "baturion" who has some great parts that can be mixed and matched with these figures to create some really interesting characters!
Would be cool to recreate the War in Troy and the adventures of Odysseus from The Iliad and The Odyssey. Lego Trojan Horse with Ancient Greek minifigs would be gnarly. Thanks for letting us know these exist!
hey brad i think you forgot about Cerberus and the Pegasus found in the harry potter line. it relates to the topic because Cerberus was the dogs of hades and Pegasus was created by Poseidon from medusas blood and Pegasus was the carrier of Zeus' thunderbolts
I would love to do more videos like this! People have been asking for Asian and others like this. Only problem is I might have to go out side of the cmf theme a bit to do it! Because there arnt alot of figures. But I’m going to try to see what I can do!
I've got the Roman Gladiator minifigure and the Barbarian minifigure. I want to get the Series 25 Barbarian Woman minifigure. Marsha the Mermaid looks like Emilia Clarke.
Loved the ending 😂 that LEGO Magazine comic has a lot of real estate in my head and sad there was never a real follow up to it. Feel like we are long overdue for Greek/Roman theme that brough the myths to life (sorta like the Vikings theme and its many mythical monster).
I couldn’t help my self with that ending😂 that comic lives rent free in my head to😂 I can’t wait to do an alien conquest deep dive at some point! 100 percent! We really do need one! I would even take a Percy Jackson theme at this point!
A small Percy Jackson theme would be awesome and could bring us crazy Monster moulds, for example a revive of fluffy as cerberus 😅 - and it would be great regarding the new series on disney+
I honestly love making this style because it’s always stuff I want to know! I had to stop my self from buying all the ones I don’t have😅 Look they can be dangerous 👀😂 😂😂😂 I was wondering how many people would watch to the end😂
Ok, I still don't know why Lego can't make a Spartan set because Lego did Viking sets. And vikings Pillage and Raided many Villages,So why can't Lego make Spartan sets?
Poseidon and Neptune are the same mythical god just two different names for two different languages. also gladiators did not fight animals, it was skilled hunters that would battle animals.
@@BrickingUpBrad your welcome and hopefully i will try to buy enough from the series 25 sets to build up a small army of the vampire knight and maybe a small number of the goats

Everybody knowd how they built the pyramids: a Lego man looks at the camera, yells "Hey!", and giant arms come down and build it for them.
You are so right! How could I forget that!
I'm fairly certain that the male and female barbarian minifigs were meant to be homages to Conan and Red Sonya, respectively.

I would buy that theme all day long😂
Vs Persians Vs Mongols Vs China Vs Japan

3:43 im pretty sure Hercules is the Roman and Heracles is the greek.

CMF always stepping up for the Castle fans. Awesome vid! Castle is so much more than Castle.
I think if all the cmf videos have proven one thing. Is it steps up for most Lego fan bases!
Brad I saw the new Orion minifugere and I saw the torso had no purple on it and was silver. Perhaps the torso could be used for a Roman or Greek soldier
Oh it 100 percent would be good for that!
If only there was a good Roman helmet that is not over $20
For Egyptian figures there's King Tut. And the Indiana Jones sets will have some figure and accessories options.
Comprehensive list! Really enjoyed it. I chuckled all along, but I lol'd at the aliens bit and the hostage read after. Great job on this one, Brad!!
Let's be honest, the new "Barbarian Woman" CMF is Red Sonja. Its totally Red Sonja and the old Barbarian is Conan... Now I need the old Barbarian...
The roman empire had Greece throughout all of its history and it was in the empire more than Rome. So that's an ancient roman soldier
The new cmfs belt has the 8 pointed star of chaos.
So she can be a warhammer fantasy chaos barbarian or champion of chaos.
Correction: in Greek mythology fauns are actually called satyrs

The Punic wars, Rome VS Carthage.

Alien Conquest! Let’s Goooo!!!
