mima14031985 Couldn't agree more. Whenever I play Bach on a synthesizer I think what could I, as a composer, ever create that was more beautiful. Turns out nothing. And you know what? That's okay! :D
Timothy J. Venters Thank you, Timothy. I'm glad you noticed. I purposefully like to play Allemandes as slow as possible, even at the risk of going against "common practice" in the performance of Baroque music. But since there's nothing common about performing it on a Prophet-10, I figured what the heck! :P
Beautifully played! I guess if synthesizers had been available in the 1600s and 1700s, Bach and Mozart would definitely have composed something for them!
The organs on which Bach worked were themselves giant, complex synthesizers-just acoustic rather than electronic. He would have loved creating new timbres in a smaller package.
@@Enigmatism415 Amen to that! Not many know or realize just how profound overstanding of music (and sound) Bach encompassed in that sense aswell as all the others... the audio technician of his time, often hired to "fix" organs and their accompanying environments. When a church bought a fine expensive organ, but then it didn't sound "right" due to the dimensions of the room etc... "get Bach!" ;) And btw, the organ is actually an additive synthesizer, quite literally, when you think about it.
Thanks for the kind words! To be perfectly honest, genuine, heartfelt comments like yours have more value to me than fame. The number of people I might touch with my music isn't so important. It's the touching itself that motivates. So, again, thank you!
Wow, haven't seen one of those beasts for a very long time! Agreed; Bach and synthesisers hit it off like ham and eggs. His work seems to lend itself to re-instrumenting like no-one else's. The fact that his keyboard works are heard so much these days on the modern piano is proof of this.
This is what Johann Sebastian would sound like in 2015!!!!! This performance was epic and played, I believe, exactly as the master intended. Keep the videos coming.
Jeff White Thanks, Jeff! I originally intended to record the whole Suite but after realizing the pitchbender was not in a neutral position -- making the Allemande in the wrong key -- I was heartbroken and abandoned the project. :-(
Thanks! I, too, suffer from the guilt of too many toys. To offset some of this guilt I try my best to actually do something meaningful with them from time to time. But that guilt still lingers. In any case, I love my Prophet-10! It's a keyboardist's dream!
Absolutely beautiful playing of this amazing song one of our eternally genious composers. This mighty instruments also fits perfectly. 2 manual polyphonic synth, very suitable especially to make such soulful interoretation of this masterpiece possible. The subtile use of overtone modulation is highly amazing. So You realize the sound possibilities of oscillators whose cannot be performed on an conventional pipe organ. For me another confirmation that it may be very useful to enhance some of the famous big pipe organs around the world with synthesizer registers. Oscillators or their modern enlectronical digital similar devices may enlarge the possibilities of these majestic instruments enormously.
This is fantastic. Finally some lovely Bach played on one of my top favorite synthesizers. But it would also be great if I heard the Bach Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor played on this very instrument. :)
Watching this on Christmas Morning as the snow is lightly falling outside. What a perfect accompaniment! Your choice of tone and subtle effects creates the ideal mood and atmosphere. Thank you for sharing this with us!
This is really good. I love the way you realize the final chord of the A section just a hair sooner than I expect ... allowing that sound to echo and build poignancy. Really nice emphasis on the different voices too, by use of space. You're making me want to learn this piece! and add a phaser! thanks!!
This is great! Very nice interpretation and nicely played, with real feeling for the piece. Thanks. Your improvisations (in other videos) are also really well done and interesting. Please keep it up.
Nice performance. Just got a Prophet 10 for $500 with no power cord (liquidation sale). I got lucky and replaced the cord and it plays perfectly. Now I'm going to play some Bach on it! Thanks for posting the video.
Beautiful in all respects. I play a lot of Bach myself and grew up listening to Wendy Carlos and now all these years later am working towards creating some synth versions myself! Cheers from Sydney - Dave
This is an amazing rendition. Please don't take offense to this because it's a compliment - I feel like this would fit right into a classic horror film like Phantasm. It's hauntingly beautiful!
beautiful Clarck (oscar cota here...)....think of you often, Will be in Europe later this year. Will see Beatrice....I will try some Bach on Synth. myself for sure.
Beautiful. Also let's recognize Dave Smith who created the Prophet 5 (single keyboard version of this synth) when he was only 27 years old. This is when he founded Sequential Circuits. Dave is about 70 today and still going strong with new synths. This beautiful Prophet 10 in the video would have probably been 32 years old when this video was made.
Great performance. Great sound, almost like something you'd find on a pipe organ, but then there is that gradual build-up of a filter sweep that the performer uses strategically to create drama.
It's in many ways fitting to see/hear this synthesizer used to play a J. S. Bach composition. The 2-manual nature immediately does suggest organ technique, even though it's also plausible that any number of others take issue with the idea of playing it like an organ instead of like a synthesizer. One thing I didn't think to try to find out about before is whether or not there are 2 separate outputs for the 2 Prophet engines. Are there?
Bach and synthesizers. One of the most beautiful combinations on this Earth.
Bach, Beethoven and many more... I'm sure you probably know it, but go and check some of the stuff from Wendy/Walter Carlos... It's amazing
Benjamin Turro
Oh yes I know Wendy Carlos, amazing composer. I like also his stuff from the Clockwork Orange soundtrack.
mima14031985 Couldn't agree more. Whenever I play Bach on a synthesizer I think what could I, as a composer, ever create that was more beautiful. Turns out nothing. And you know what? That's okay! :D
I love it too.
Wendy Carlos is a composer?
I love how you performed that piece. You didn't rush it and really allowed the mood of the piece to sink in.
Timothy J. Venters Thank you, Timothy. I'm glad you noticed. I purposefully like to play Allemandes as slow as possible, even at the risk of going against "common practice" in the performance of Baroque music. But since there's nothing common about performing it on a Prophet-10, I figured what the heck! :P
I don't know what to admire the most: the sound, the machine, the technique, Bach! Beautiful! Bravo!
Sir Synth Thank you, Sir Synth! :D Perhaps I can help with your dilemma: BACH!
Admire the fact we have hearing
The ‘instrument’. Not the machine. :-)
Beautifully played!
I guess if synthesizers had been available in the 1600s and 1700s, Bach and Mozart would definitely have composed something for them!
Thank you! Yes, I think so, too. They would have loved them, I'm sure!
The organs on which Bach worked were themselves giant, complex synthesizers-just acoustic rather than electronic. He would have loved creating new timbres in a smaller package.

Bach and Mozart *did* compose music for analogue synthesizers, they were sooo far ahead of their time!
Very elegant playing and use of this great synth. Sounds quite authentic even!
dengdiddididdi Doesn't it?! That's the amazing thing about Bach's music -- it's timeless!
This is truly one of the greatest Bach renditions I've heard in Years. The instrument gives this piece a very haunting tone.
I feel like this would fit right in with the Phantasm sound track. That's a compliment :)
god you deserve to be more famous, so nice playing, good rubato, so nice sound of organ, electronic but rich and elegant.
Thanks for the kind words! To be perfectly honest, genuine, heartfelt comments like yours have more value to me than fame. The number of people I might touch with my music isn't so important. It's the touching itself that motivates. So, again, thank you!

This piece made my day. I could listen to this version for hours on end.
I can't stop listening to this... amazing
Woooow, I've never seen a Prophet 10 before this vid, and it looks MASSIVE . Probably massive sounding too !
very elegantly, soberly, wonderfully played. I love this first allemande.
I'm very interested in synths and baroque music. I'm so glad I found this video, fantastic interpretation!! Thanks for sharing.

From JSBach to JMJarre. Perfection and congratulations!

Beautiful... Bach would have been fond of synths, I'm pretty sure about that.
I think he would have been, too!
This is fantastic. Finally some lovely Bach played on one of my top favorite synthesizers. But it would also be great if I heard the Bach Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor played on this very instrument. :)
Beautifully played.
hauntingly beautiful

Such a lovely performance. Beautiful
thank you very much for this great interpretation on J.S. Bach.
Everything sounds allright.
GREAT!!!
Really Nice! I know i'm finding this years late but i'm digging it all these years later. LOL. Thanks.
Beautiful! I'm subscribing right now, please upload more videos like this. The programming is great and suits the piece very well!
Alexandre Fonseca Thank you, Alexandre. I'm planning to do more recording with the Prophet later this year (2015).
This is really good. I love the way you realize the final chord of the A section just a hair sooner than I expect ... allowing that sound to echo and build poignancy. bravo, this was absolutely capturing

Beautiful maestro! Thank you so much
Great playing, great sound. Such a pleasure to listen.
AMAZING.
wow! this was really gorgeous!
Bach is such a genius. The P10 is such a marvelous synth. Maison vague is marvelous at playing such a genius on such à marvelous synth.
This is absolutely gorgeous
Very nice !! And nice sound too, I like these colors. Nice Moog pedals too !!
Thank you! Yeah, that Prophet sounds amazing! Never ceases to blow me away! Cheers
Wonderful !
god this is gorgeous :) really beautifully played :) and great instrument
The right instrument for the right musician. Beautiful performance.
best thing to happen to my ears and heart today
Nice performance. Just got a Prophet 10 for $500 with no power cord (liquidation sale). I got lucky and replaced the cord and it plays perfectly. Now I'm going to play some Bach on it! Thanks for posting the video.
fnersch Wow. Congratulations! Enjoy!
fnersch That's an insane deal. Congrats
fnersch That's an insane deal. Congrats
he just posts this on every synth video for his own amusement. in another video, he said it was $100 at a junk store. he can't keep his lie straight.
nice phaser ✨ und gut gegen meine Herzschmerzen. 🫶 Danke Meister
Fabulous contribution. :)

Thanks for visiting my channel, Oscar! Would love to see you during your visit to Europe.
And a sequenced preset in the 10 is the B-flat Bach partita. It can be heard in the Genesis “Three Sides Live” video.
Fantastic!!
My favourite video now! More! More! More!
Still loving it! More! More! More!
Bravo!! Thank you!!
Gorgeous
Thank you, thank you! I'm honored!
JSB is surely cheering for you to keep on the good work .... :)
If Bach lived in 2022, not doubt he'd have one helluva setup
Beautiful. Thank you.
Why, thank you Mr. Solaris! I'm honored by your visit! Prophets rock, do they not?!
Sounds great!
I want MORE of this suite pleaz !!
Just brought your Synthpops alive album - love it.
that's a beautiful melody
Excellent job sir. Allemande is one of my favorites.
This was really super correct. Wow.
Flawless

French suite hype! Emerson inspired me to learn this on my synths.
Beautiful.
bravo!
Wonderful
Just amazing! what an awesome sound you can get from that Prophet-10. Your playing ability is also great, and gives just the right feel :)
That was brilliant man!
Great performance. Great sound, almost like something you'd find on a pipe organ, but then there is that gradual build-up of a filter sweep that the performer uses strategically to create drama.
Fantastic! :-)

that was lovely! Thanks for posting!
wonderful!
Wow! I love it .. 👍❤️👍❤️
Very Good !
is this what high classical musicians hear?
It certainly makes me high
I can agree
Absolutely wonderful. Any more Bach coming?
you are incredible
still sooooo good
Love the phaser - the could be more of it! And more reverb, but then it would sound very Jarre, for better or worse :)
Lovely!
Maravilloso !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The sound on the lower keyboard, is a lot like the Hammond organ sound on Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum.

I bought your unique music! Beautiful!
magnificent
If Bach were alive today, he'd be fully into electronic music.
Thanks for listening! Cheers!
Please do more of these.
Very impressive.
I could listen to a 6 hour loop of this
