As a Californian, I felt love riding this ride when it was soarin over Cali. It was just this weird sense of happiness and pride that struck me knowing I lived in such a diverse state. I mean common, that golf ball! Jeez, that golf ball always made me duck my head even though I knew it was fake! Now when I ride this, I feel like I just watched a 4K Sony/Samsung UA-cam advertisement.
I miss the old one, especially because I am from California and have been all over the state, it was just amazing to “fly” over somewhere so familiar, and the best part was the scent that came from the oranges, now I feel like it is mostly touristy locations.
Interesting tidbit - the "orange" scene is near Camarillo, CA. In Ventura County, almost all of the citrus, including those fields, are lemons. Lemons like colder night temperatures such as in Ventura County. Orange County, further south and a bit warmer, was the better climate for oranges, before it became all developed.
Personally, I think this "Around the world" theme fits better at Epcot in Florida with the world showcase theme. Disney California should have kept the "Over California" theme since this whole park is themed California.

The tsk mahal legit smelled like a bunch of roses, and for Fiji I smelled the ocean but also gardenias😂, and the elephant one ugh the grass and dirt was awesome.
I see the issue with this. Soarin Over California was an amazing ride because it reminds us of how diverse California is. All the landmarks, different biomes, etc. With this ride, it's kinda redundant cos we already know how diverse the world is. ://
The thing is tourists don't really care about how diverse California is. I'm from Spain, I've studied in Riverside (CA) and worked in WDW, and I was way more excited about Soarin around the world than about Soarin about California.

I left Disney the day this opened and I rode the old one for the last time and I was crying and laughing the whole time. It was the best I've felt in a long time
Honestly, it's the music that makes it feel flat :/ It just doesn't strike your emotions the way the original score did. I know a lot of people hate the CGI too, but if the music was still as powerful as the original, it'd still give you goosebumps enough to not focus too much on the CGI.
I haven't rode it yet, but just from this video and from other peoples opinions, the original was better. Not that this one is "bad", it's still a fun ride, just not _as_ good.

Not too many times where the sequel is better than the first this absolutely is one of them times. So grateful for the video my wife is afraid of heights and this is the only time she'll get to experience it . been blessed and lucky enough to go down to Disney and Epcot many many times this is one of my favorites I would highly suggest anybody going down there for the first or second time to put this at the top of their list. Very nice video and I love the new Soarin. The original will always be great, but we had it for 15 years or so. No attraction at Disneyland is meant to be unchanging and they've done a great job with this update. Sure, it's a CGI fest and we know it. But it's gorgeous footage and at least it's nice looking CGI. I love that they kept sampling from the original soundtrack as I think it's one of the most recognizable pieces still in the park. If you miss it in it's original form then you can at least still hear it played out in the esplanade between both parks. Still makes me happy when I hear it there.

I feel really bad for the people who are watching this and thinking they butchered the original... This is probably the first ride that I've ever NOT watched a video of before riding it for the first time, and I was really glad I didn't. I was thoroughly impressed. I rode it the 2nd weekend it was open, and in my opinion, a video can in NO WAY do this ride justice. The movements of the ride vehicles are better, and do a much better job of making you feel like you're really there. It's definitely more exciting than Over California was in that aspect. The music also is not as good on video. It's looks boring on here because you're not feeling any of the ride movements. Also, the video quality in general is infinitely better than the original. I know that's a given, but all the extra visual polish really goes a long way. So to anyone who hasn't ridden it yet, PLEASE reserve judgement until you do. It's fantastic.
I once experienced a smaller version of "Soarin' Around The World" at Playland in Rye, NY with my first boyfriend in the 1970's. Standing in a tent that had the film projected onto screens 360 degrees around us, we flew" over the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. It was a smaller version of what was shown in this video. I absolutely love the idea of virtual flying like an eagle! Wish I could be there.
I think the biggest issue with the soundtrack is that it follows the video as opposed to the video following the soundtrack. The scene transitions were based on the music, rather than the other way around. When the music is constantly changing to accommodate the video, it kinda ruins the flow.

I used to love this ride as a kid I've only gone twice when I was like 3 and 5 but wow I remeber this ride super well it was always my favorite from what I remeber I'm going this Saturday and I'm soo exited to ride this one again!

Overall im excited to see it in person someday!

You must have never done Soarin' Over California. This version of the ride gets worse every time I ride it while Soarin' Over California was a ride I wasn't a big fan of when I was 7 years old but when it when away 10 years later for this pile of shit, I was so depressed.
I've never ridden the original but I absolutely adored this version. Too bad my cleithrophobia won't allow me to ride it again. I tried to go on it a second time on a later trip to Disneyland and was actually really excited but for some reason as soon as he mentioned a fear of heights I started panicking about being trapped on the ride and couldn't force myself to stay so I left through the exit. I felt horrible because my friend had to ride it by herself after waiting 45 minutes to get on.
I've never been on the soarin California one before but this one was amazing to me. The smells were so beautiful ,my friends loved it too and were bawling their eyes out at all the different areas and cultures visited. I obviously can't compare soarin California with this but I would wait in line to go through this again😭♥️

I just love this ride so relaxing and peaceful and smooth it's one of my 4th favorite ride there I can go on it over and over all day long I just love the music too so pretty.
Only redeeming quality about this new footage is the brand new finale over Disneyland. The Eiffel Tower part was pretty cool. Maybe I wouldn't be so hard on it if they had kept Jerry Goldsmith's original music just the way it was. It was perfect and flawless. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. All the transitions between locations were just awkward and made it look very unnatural. Overall, I'm not impressed.

The music was messed up. Don't mess with Jerry Goldsmith's masterpiece. And what's with the cheesy CGI transitions? I like the jump cut a lot more. It wasn't realistic, and it wasn't supposed to be either. It feels like they're trying too hard. If they really didn't want to do a jump cut, why not just use fade every time like they did at 3:42?
The music in the original is some of the best in Disney's attraction history, but I do like the new music because it fits each country you fly through. China's sounds Chinese, Africa sounds African, etc. both rides I believe are beautiful and beautifully scored, but to each his own I suppose
MDR173 have you been on it? It's awesome the original is legendary but there are so many smells that are reminiscent of the original it's like it's sibling
Use a new version of the original but with the diverse instruments. This version borrows many phrases from the original but most of it is much different and kind of boring.
Or base the videos and transitions around the old soundtrack and just use the old soundtrack. Or better yet, don’t change the ride, bring back the old one
I think that for California Adventure’s 20th anniversary they should bring Over California back for one of the theaters. The other would keep Around the World, thus everyone will be happy. And also I think it would be cool that for the 4th of July every year, they do a seasonal version that flies across America called Soarin’ Across America and it would use most of the Over California soundtrack along with parts of Around the World’s soundtrack.

I rode Soarin' for the first time, and for the first minute or two I was freaking out. It is so immersive! Love it.

True, no one beats the music of Jerry Goldsmith. Sadly, he passed away in 2004, so they brought in Bruce Broughton. I think he did an admirable job.

You must have never done Soarin' Over California. This version of the ride gets worse every time I ride it while Soarin' Over California was a ride I wasn't a big fan of when I was 7 years old but when it when away 10 years later for this pile of shit, I was so depressed.

I've never ridden the original but I absolutely adored this version. Too bad my cleithrophobia won't allow me to ride it again. I tried to go on it a second time on a later trip to Disneyland and was actually really excited but for some reason as soon as he mentioned a fear of heights I started panicking about being trapped on the ride and couldn't force myself to stay so I left through the exit. I felt horrible because my friend had to ride it by herself after waiting 45 minutes to get on.

I've never been on the soarin California one before but this one was amazing to me. The smells were so beautiful ,my friends loved it too and were bawling their eyes out at all the different areas and cultures visited. I obviously can't compare soarin California with this but I would wait in line to go through this again😭♥️

Only redeeming quality about this new footage is the brand new finale over Disneyland. The Eiffel Tower part was pretty cool. Maybe I wouldn't be so hard on it if they had kept Jerry Goldsmith's original music just the way it was. It was perfect and flawless. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. All the transitions between locations were just awkward and made it look very unnatural. Overall, I'm not impressed.
+Tyler Kelson on video you can see the transitions. Literally half the screen would transition then maybe .5 seconds later there would be a full transition
The music was messed up. Don't mess with Jerry Goldsmith's masterpiece. And what's with the cheesy CGI transitions? I like the jump cut a lot more. It wasn't realistic, and it wasn't supposed to be either. It feels like they're trying too hard. If they really didn't want to do a jump cut, why not just use fade every time like they did at 3:42?
The music in the original is some of the best in Disney's attraction history, but I do like the new music because it fits each country you fly through. China's sounds Chinese, Africa sounds African, etc. both rides I believe are beautiful and beautifully scored, but to each his own I suppose

MDR173 have you been on it? It's awesome the original is legendary but there are so many smells that are reminiscent of the original it's like it's sibling

Use a new version of the original but with the diverse instruments. This version borrows many phrases from the original but most of it is much different and kind of boring.
Or base the videos and transitions around the old soundtrack and just use the old soundtrack. Or better yet, don’t change the ride, bring back the old one

I think that for California Adventure’s 20th anniversary they should bring Over California back for one of the theaters. The other would keep Around the World, thus everyone will be happy. And also I think it would be cool that for the 4th of July every year, they do a seasonal version that flies across America called Soarin’ Across America and it would use most of the Over California soundtrack along with parts of Around the World’s soundtrack.
