First of all, both of you are GREAT! You have been stretched to the max repeatedly so just stay real with the flow. You deserve to feel all that you do because of all you have been experiencing. Your beauty is apparent just staying who you truly are. You have a lot of us hoping there's special Grace coming your way after all these challenges. You are very loved.
Your sense of perspective, honesty, and positive attitudes through the good, bad, and downright debilitating experiences- are what make your channel great. Your perseverance is inspiring. Thanks!
Like you said nobody is forcing you to be there the fact that you are means all you have invested in your journey so far, the good and the bad, means it's a worthwhile adventure and character building which makes you both such great characters. Love you guys keep it up and remember the good times will always outnumber the bad.
I appreciate you both taking the time to discuss the stresses of boat ownership and be so self aware of how blessed you all are. I am impressed and respect the amount of maturity it takes to balk about your problems and reflect of them when they are fresh. Cheers!
I just wanted to say I appreciate you guys. I know it's cheesy but it's the truth. You guys are awesome and I'm constantly in awe in your perseverance. You guys got it!
I for one have faith in both of you. Your determination to solve a problem and then SMILE about it is one of the BIGGEST reasons I enjoy your videos. Then there's all that humor you both throw at each other that makes me laugh and say "See my day wasn't so bad after all".
Thanks for sharing how it is not always great to be in the sun and fun of the cruising life. I totally understand there are people with bigger challenges in life but this is your reality and my way of living is through your channel. I look forward to every video you put out. Keep your chin up, you will eventually run out of problems to fix.
…..and that is how you fix something ! Your a competent diagnostician. Anybody can keep throwing parts at a problem and by doing that you might never find the problem. You have to have the perseverance to drill down to find that "blue wire" or whatever it is to trust your systems. I hate it when something isn't working and you fix it by investigating and trouble shooting and have the problem reappear, disappear, reappear, disappear and finally find the root of the problem. Your engine running gear should be solid and now your charging system should be as well, with spare parts to also trust. Carry on ! Love the show ! Carpe Diem !
Keep on keeping on. Just remember, even if there are problems, you have each other to lean on. You don't have to display your emotions for the world to see. Any of us in the world that has existed for very long knows what you are going thru and can sympathize with you. It can be very frustrating. I worked on computer hardware for 35 years and know exactly what you experienced. In the end, you did solve it. Congratulations. Another experience you can talk about sometime down the road.
great video guys. Life is what we make it and how we cope with the challenges. In my 62 years I have survived years at war, capture and torture, recently, 3 years ago, abduction and being held hostage for 10 months and living on 18 grams of milk powder which I mixed with rain water and broke up a roll of bread, like a small hot dog roll, per day. Important note to you, 'every word spoken is either a blessing or a curse' . Thats 'karma' IF you say thinks like' i am so sick' , or, 'we wait for the next thing to go wrong' you are 'cursing' yourself. You are putting out that negativity into the world so it will come back to you. I am known as the "eternal optimist' . No matter what conditions I find myself in i focus on the good, the better and move around or through the issues at hand. IF i am faced with an insurmountable problem i let it go as the more time i focus on the problem the more i miss the GOOD opportunities that will eventually lead me to overcoming the, what seemed impossible, problem i had. Such is life folks. YOU ARE BLESSED SO ENJOY THE BLESSINGS AND REJOICE IN THAT.
I was really into the story and had my fingers crossed for the test to go well, but as soon as I heard " I painted the clutch shut", I was rolling on floor laughing like a mad man at 3 am on a Sunday when I should've gone to bed 4 hours ago. Thx for this.
Keep it up! "Bryt ihop, bit ihop" - means break down, knuckel down (in swedish). Have a cry and a laugh, then Just Effin DO IT. Thats how I live my life.
One day at a time. Having owned a boat, albeit not a sailboat, I found it to be a hole in the water where you put your money. Love you guys. It's OK to be angry and its OK to let it out. I would crew for you in a heartbeat! Take care and good luck!
Guys, cruising is fixing stuff in exotic locations, we all have the same issue! The real challenge of cruising is not whether the boat survives adverse weather its whether your relationship survives.
Life is...life! Some are young and perky.... some are old and grumpy...but on the whole.... the trick is to forge ahead, smile or cry! You are doing fine like most of us! Cheers
We be praying for you kids. For some unknown reason God is keeping you kids right there for a time. If you left there you never know something worse could of happened to you kids. Many time in my 60 years I've been unable to go somewhere that I really wanted to go, and I got mad and yelled at God. Then a few weeks latter I was thanking God for making it to where I couldn't go because one time I would have been in a multi car wreck. Then another time a tornado went though the place we were heading too. So there's always a good reason why things happen. Some times we never know why but I trust God to lookout for me and we pray for God to continue blessing you kids and keeping y'all safe... Much love, BBE..
khiara, you have the best smile on UA-cam... Keep Smiling. Adam - Love your work ethic and follow through on each issue and hair cut looks good. Maybe a shave will really get Neptune on your side (HaHa)
We were in Spanish Wells, Bahamas when we were hit with the totally exhausted and sick of the boat feeling. We had just pulled into the Yacht Haven Marina there and we found out they had some brand new cottages for rent, a hundred feet from the docks, for only $250 a night. That sounded like a bargain, all things considered, and we spend three nights there (in fact, my wife didn't leave during the day either). But, afterwards, we were recharged and ready to go again! Might be time to get a room for a few nights.
..... totally understand your frustrations and apprehensions, they are mere speed-bumps in the journey of life to be over come ... yikes, they have been stacking up ... everything is getting ship shape and even some things are getting a nice lick of paint ... hard lick on painting a crack that was not to be painted, am sure it looked mighty rejuvenated and spiffy ..... a good characteristic you both have is admitting your errs and get by them quickly, or at least that is what I see in the wee snippet of your lives that we see .... on wards and upwards .... up up and away ..... have fun be safe, save our oceans ......
Just remember there are some folks that pay good money to ride a roller coaster ;) You hit the nail on the head when you spoke about others that are in much worse position and would gladly trade places. Thank you for showing the REAL life of sailing.
Too much blue.... Lucky man; your lady really trusts you! And with the hair thing; you really trust your lady! What a combo! Go guys! Wow... I so understand your nervousness. But, your boat is sound, you have each other, you've done the best you can to be safe... BITE the cherry! Khiara, everyone can make a boo-boo. Adam knows that.
As your entry says, smile through it! You guys are doing great. You'll get past these issues (and probably encounter others) but promise yourselves and each other, the next moment when you're sailing downwind and smiling with joy, relaxing before an amazing sunset, sitting on a gorgeous beach and thinking about how lucky you are ... remember THOSE days, and that these problem days come and go and are lost to your past. The good days are why you do it and pay for those with the down days. Fair winds!
I Love the facial expressions when on the scooter! Fantastic! Fair winds. (It's a free choice to be out there, with ups and downs, i love the honesty, and recognice all the feelings. But then I just got my boat back in the water after three years on the hard). Keep it up, I love what you guys are doing out there, you also keep my dreams alive. Thanks!
If it wasn’t for bad luck, you’d have no luck at all .... perseverance , we all get these problems, last year we said two weeks in a boat yard for paint and minor jobs, we ended up there for three months, one of our contractors had a heart attack and died in his sleep another one had a car crash and broke his back and never came back to finish what he started, so we watch you kids and smile every time, if you make it into Europe look us up.
In the words of another marine legend “just keep swimming, just keep swimming”! Just wanted to say thanks guys, I smile every time I see one of your videos pop up on my feed.
Hi guys, My 2 cents: I think you can recognize an experienced sailor at his sailing in degraded mode. He keeps sailing while week-end sailors are at the shipyard fixing things. I once heard Yvan Bourgnon while he was preparing an Atlantic record with a big race trimaran that wasn't 100% ready explain to the surprised reporter that his boat having 4000 (or so) parts, the probability that they all worked at the same time was close to 0; so he just made sure what really mattered worked and went sailing. Also, François Gabart left for the Transat Jacques Vabre with only 1 foil (and won I believe!). The failure of your alternator isn't such a big deal. You can unplug it. You still have your solar panels to charge your batteries. Easier said than done, I know. But I would say: don't worry yourselves sick with failures, you will make your boat life miserable. And keep moving if you can, you'll spice your misery up with a few sailing rewards. Fair winds and following seas.
You are right my good man, plenty of people would give their left nut to be where you are! Stay the course, appreciate the moment. All about perspective. Enjoy your videos very much!❤
There are always people worse off, it's still your reality and how it affects you. That is what you are sharing. In my early days of sailing I had lots of trouble with my raw water pump. I was nervous after that just to go out the marina. I am now an expert on how it all works and am totally confident on fixing and repairing my engine which gives me confidence to go sailing. Look how much you have learnt because things break. Hang in there .
Oh, so many times I have been in similar situations. As you know now quite well, it is the nature of the beast. Although absolutely horrid in the moment, many years down the road it will be the very worst situations that will bring the biggest smiles to your faces.
Sitting here in Indiantown Fla, working on an old 42 ft Steel sailboat that’s been on the hard for 20 years. Just got the yanmar running today. The up’s and downs are incredible, but we just keep at it. Not fail is NOT an option. Installing a Balmar alternator and regulator tomorrow, and you got me very worried. Lol
I get it, it is frustrating at times and yet you reminded me too that we are lucky to have a boat and be in the Caribbean. I hope it's fixed and you can head south out of the hurricane area. For us things worked out okay this hurricane season. We did anchor out during TS Dorian and TS Karen but there wasn't much of anything including swells. Although there was an earthquake during Karen but we didn't feel it out in the harbor, haha!! Keep up the great videos and I'll keep praying for you both too.
You two are an inspiration! Many days it feels like I spend way more time fixing my boat then I do enjoying it. Your videos remind me I am not alone and today remind me to keep a realistic perspective. I've come soooo far with my boat as have you with yours. Here's to holding fast to the dream!
I had a similar alternator cooking battery problem. I had the balmar setup to sense battery voltage at the batteries. That was great, but the problem was when the 220amp alternator was installed the cables from it to batteries were not upgraded to match the new higher amps for the distance. My understanding is because the alt couldn't push the amps it increased voltage lowering amps until it could. Check both your positive and negative battery cables. They might either be under sized or have bad connections. If you have a DC amp meter you should check how many amps the alt is pushing to confirm cabling might be the issue. Love the vids. We are in Grenada if you are down this way. Good luck!
I think the wingeing is an important part of the experience. To remove it is to deny its existence and the resulting videos would not be an accurate portrayal of life at sea in a small boat. They also help portray and model the inherent ability's of the human species to adapt and prevail in troubling times, which I think is really important too. Please keep on wingeing . . . :)
Don't give up or in you will get there, wherever there is. Just like a house on land things break, you fix and you move on. Crying is ok your human. : ) peace
My boat was in a Marina about 1 hour drive from my house. In 30 years of sailing, if I tell you how many times I arrived to the dock on a late Friday afternoon, after an exhausting week of work, ready for a long weekend sail, and found something wrong in the boat that caused a delay or a cancellation of the trip, I will make you cry. I have to add that my Marina was in a small island about 20 minutes ride in a ferry, which meant parking the car, hauling bags and groceries to the Ferry dock and then dragging them to the boat. Did that stop me from sailing or from smiling every time I raised the sails and turned off the engine? No. By the way, getting a new alternator and keeping the old one as an spare was a great idea. Alternators are "not that expensive essential items" that give you a lot of headaches when they malfunction. Include in that list, engine starters, belts and fuel filters. Only one complaint, when Khiara is upset she starts using a deeper australian accent that my hispanic roots cannot understand because she also smiles when she vents her fury.
Be gentle on yourselves! Remember the good times on your boat balance out the bad times on your boat. We've all been there (and are there). I've gone from screaming with excitement and joy to cursing the bloody boat (or seawater pump, or ...). Like Churchill used to say "Stay Calm and Carry On!"
Would their left nut ! Well said. I like that you can do it yourself and second guessing is always an issue when you can turn your hand to anything and electrical faults that are intermittent the worse ones to do you head in.
Keep in mind if your alternator goes haywire during a passage while you need the engine you can just unplug it. Most diesels only require power to start.
Aww, I feel for you guys. Just think of it as Millie making sure you are competent in all on-board systems before you set off on your long trip. That way she knows she'll be in safe hands what ever may come.
Alternators are often governed by the field coil voltage, which is controlled by ECM or electronic charging module, which can go wonky. You might consider direct control of the field coil voltage with an adjustable buck converter, that you can adjust the voltage output of, and adjust it till the battery charging voltage is below 14.5V . Another scheme is an adjustable PWM, pulse width modulator, and a big capacitor across the field coil to gnd. It basically turns it on and off at a selectable duty cycle and it fills the cap to the right voltage level. Another scheme is to stick another cheap solar charge controller, < $15, in line with the battery(-ies) to protect it/them, hook the charge wire to solar inputs and the middle outputs to the batteries
Youre really getting to know youre boat. One day it will all come together. Break out another thousand a hundred more times is about when it will all make sence. But youre not alone guys its the right of passage on old boats. Unfortunately balmar gear is crap. I did 10 years with them before and 5 alternators and 3 regulators before i went back to stock. A stock 125 amp alt serpentine driven belt is the best. Dont give up youre pain makes mine less. Its true there is comfort in others misery. Cause it shows we are not alone.
That's the way to stick with it!!! Now you can put that behind you. As Rosanna Dana Rosanna says. If it isn't one thing its another, it always shows that crap happens!
Adam you are amazing, you can do so many things aboard and fix all them problems that test you ...BUT one thing you'll never be able to do is grow a tash ...well not on the right hand side of your face. whats going on there bro? Any how all the best guys love you both, you're both an inspiration .... knowledge is priceless and one day you'll both get to share that hard earned knowledge and save the day for many. fingers crossed you got to sail to a safe anchorage somewhere south soon.
Better to have all of these problems happen now, in a place where it is relatively easy to get parts and assistance than way out there in the middle of the ocean. When the boat is acting up and getting you down, think about how well you are getting to know the boat and the education you are receiving in having to troubleshoot all of these problems. It is good to show moments like this so people don't get the impression that the cruising life is all champagne and bikinis, it is hard work that requires you to be self-sufficient, mechanically adept, and smart. Don't worry too much about what others think and for anyone that thinks young people out there doing this are spoiled then they really have no clue. Enjoy the southern Caribbean and keep plugging away at those problems until you feel confident in the boat again, which you will, it will just take some time and probably some more money.
Hi guys! I've been following your trip for a while now and I just wanna say I am so proud of you guys that problems keep coming up and you just keep going, I have my own 32ft boat here in Argentina and that is just the way boat life is, but always remember "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".. This episode made me wanna become your patreon, on it right now, cheers!
Thank you 😊 we’re always a bit thankful that other boat owners say ‘thats just the way boat life is!’ Haha, at least it’s not just us!! Thanks for joining us on patreon 😆
Khiara, you have an expressive, beautiful face. Happy or sad, it is great to watch. Adams new haircut looks great btw. Long hair and spinning motors do not go well together.
I feel your pain with your alternator wiring harness giving you problems. I've had to replace the engine to cockpit control panel connections to new terminal strips. Pain in the ass, but no more gremlins or wires frying. Like an older car or house, it's the s**t you can't see that bites you in the posterior.... remember to always have hard liquor on hand for such occasions and use liberally!
Thanks for sharing your troubleshooting issues. Frustrating for you but instructive for those of us experiencing your journey vicariously.
Your sense of perspective, honesty, and positive attitudes through the good, bad, and downright debilitating experiences- are what make your channel great. Your perseverance is inspiring. Thanks!
Goodn't be said any better....
Perfectly said.
Well said
This line "self-inflicted adventure" has become our new favorite phrase.
Like you said nobody is forcing you to be there the fact that you are means all you have invested in your journey so far, the good and the bad, means it's a worthwhile adventure and character building which makes you both such great characters. Your perspective is spot on..... it could always be worse and the Sun is always shining.... somewhere.... all the time. Safe travels.
Khiara excellent job on the corrosion control of the water maker!
Cheer up kids, you have each other, your together and the beautiful Millennial Falcon ia
Is afloat and keeping you safe and dry. Fair winds and following seas.

+1 for "self-inflicted adventure".
The happiest days in a boat owners life are they day they buy the boat and the day the sell the boat. Happier times are ahead for you.
That happiness from selling the boat does not last. Eventually it is a lot of regret.
You will get there. Hang in there. You can do this. We are all pulling for you. You are handling all the issues. Sh*t happens.
Just remember there are some folks that pay good money to ride a roller coaster ;) You hit the nail on the head when you spoke about others that are in much worse position and would gladly trade places. Thank you for showing the REAL life of sailing.

Thanks for being real... it’s very refreshing and helps us deal with our own realities getting our boat ready to sail. ❤️
Sending you both good vibes. Lots of love xx
These are the challenges that will make you stronger, so revel in the journey. You're doing great!
Hang in there guys.
1) Like your hair, 2) admire your persistence in resolving the problem.
(@6:50) Ha ha - too cute! (So many facial expressions! Mostly of anxiety/fear/terror!) ;-)
Well, I have to say ... there is always the Rugby World Cup .... for Khiara at least ;-)

Good luck!
So truthful
Some days it doesn't pay to sober up! Good luck to the both of you!
You are doing great. You cruising around this winter and make it to St John in the USVI, I’ll buy you guys a beer.
Subscribing because my Irish roots make me a sucker for freckly-faced redheads. And also because of very nice footage and editing!
Hang in there guys, you'll make it!!!
Yes, we totally understand. Soon your luck will turn.
Cheer up
Be gentle on yourselves! Remember the good times on your boat balance out the bad times on your boat. We've all been there (and are there). I've gone from screaming with excitement and joy to cursing the bloody boat (or seawater pump, or ...). Like Churchill used to say "Stay Calm and Carry On!"
I just don' know what to say but I feel your pain. Life is up and downs and you don't have to show only ups. Love your show!!
Love you guys!
Hang in there, things are tough but thing of the story's you will have someday.
Hang in there guys. You'll get there. We love ya.
Keep calm and carry on you guys are awesome
Yep, heaps of tough stuff coming your way but, gee, I love your style guys!!!
Great video, and great to see you put your problems into perspective.
Every time I see this intro .. the timing of "and this .... this is a Millenial Falcon ... " is absolutely perfect ... hits perfectly
Totally understand, boat ownership is always something going wrong or wearing out. SV BROOKLYN PNW, CHEERS
Keep pushing for the dream.
Your positive attitudes will get you far, your luck has to change soon. Keep smiling, difficult with the Aussie loss, but hey.
Always look forward, there are the good things. still I like the compleet episode. Flair winds.
As a Pastor I can't offer much but I offer a prayer of peace a safty, also i sailed alot when i was younger. I know the pain and the joy.
'Nil illigitemi carborundem est' - Hang on in there, it's worth it in the end. Fair winds ⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
Find a blessing every day and every night
Always look forward to a new episode . :-) good day and bad days, just remember the good.
