As a caterpillar the tiger butterfly consumes poisonous leaves in order to develop its own signature toxin. What did you find most fascinating about this video?
I thought it was interesting that the spider knows it toxic and threw it away
What I like about this video is that the spider let go of the tiger butterfly, because he knows that the butterfly is toxic and poisonous.
🕷️🕸️🦋
The most intriguing part is the way of this butterfly become toxic.
The way you guys can capture all the details👏
It makes me wonder what preys on the tiger butterfly. Surely, it must have at least one predator.

So dangerous, a spider naturally just knows that its a dangerous meal and snips its own web to get it as far away from itself. Peculiar and just plain cool.
More like get it away so he can at least catch prey that it can eat.

He's poisonous not venomous. Meaning he is not able to inflict damage on anyone except if that someone eats him.
I like your joke, I just feel like it is based on a missunderstanding.
@@cauchyschwarz3295 so what do you think the spider was about to do? Technical or not, just take a joke for what it is. It’s not that serious.
@@SushiBurritoPapi well you don't need to be afraid of someone who cannot do anything unless you decide to eat them.

Butterfly: _proceeds to bring all friends and dive bomb the web_ haha now you’ll never get us out of your web!
Spider: oh well _leaves web_
Butterflies: WAIT YOU CANT LEAVE US LIKE THIS
I think that was the first time I've ever seen a spider free something from their web. That is really cool! Also, the butterfly is gorgeous. I do want to know if the tiger butterfly is poisonous only to bugs, or if it's poisonous to humans too though, it didn't say that it was, which makes me wonder.
I was thinking the same thing, that's amazing that the butterfly was totally helpless but the monster let it go. It's like an insect version of a Grimm's fairy tale.
I mean it does say no predator can safely eat him so probably not safe
If they cant eat it they let it go as it would hinder them from catching other prey.
Same 😂💕
Most predators in nature try to avoid unnecessary harm by any means necessary. Keeping the butterfly trapped is a drain on resources better used for catching actual prey. So it’s best for it and the butterfly to be let go.
Butterfly flies into net.
Butterfly: "Hey Bob."
Spider: "Hey Billy."
Butterfly: "That hurt."
More people should understand this meme 😂
This made my day
LOL
HAHHAHAHA😂😂😂😂
Laugh out loud!
bugs are more intelligent than what we humans give them credit for. it's amazing how the spider knew the difference between a tiger butterfly and a monarch butterfly. or how the caterpillar knew how to trick the tree into not poisoning him.
Spiders are so smart. There is an overgrown path that I pass through very often and the spiders there put out trip-rope type threads so that when I pass through and break them, they’ll know to build their web somewhere I won’t break it.
@Slush I actually thought this was a misidentified Monarch but then I saw thicker black patterns at the tips of the forewings when the spider cut it loose and the ecosystem was different so I knew it was a relative of the Monarch. The caterpillar looks similar to the Monarch too in the final instar. I don't know that Monarch caterpillars do that barrier and excavating trick but I have reared them from eggs and when they are very small, they do eat patches of leaves and don't chew all the way through and don't eat from the edges until they are larger. I knew quite a lot about them already and I still learned new things from this video :) (also, in case anyone is wondering how the narrator knew the caterpillar/butterfly was male, the bulbous black spot on the vein of each of the hind wings indicates this. A female would not have that spot)
@@MachetesAreFun There are 2 species of tiger butterflies shown here, Danaus genutia and Danaus chrysippus, Asian relatives of Monarch (Danaus plexippus) btw
Nice, a documentary about butterflys that isn't just talking about its "beauty" and instead its cool adaptations!

Spider: understandable have a nice day.

So this explains why Monarch Butterflies eat milkweed leaves in small quantities when they first hatch. Like their cousins from the tropics, they build a diluted trench around the leaves until they’ve developed full immunity from the milkweed toxins. Fascinating.
Amazing how the new-born caterpillar knows how to handle the toxic leaves/food without its parents around imparting this knowledge or showing how it's done ! Something a human babies can't even do.
Seeing that spider recognize the type of butterfly and cut it loose and the fact that it lived through that it's just the coolest thing I've seen all week. So fascinating! I've never seen anything like this.
Spider: **caught something on its web**
Spider: **realizes it is a Tiger Butterfly**
Also Spider: Understandable, have a nice day ahead.
Mother nature is just awesome..... Her creativity is next to awesome level😊.... Loved this vdo🤗....
It’s amazing how the caterpillar chants and plays ominous music as it eats. Ah, the wonders of nature.
Looks like a Monarch butterfly
From what I’ve read a handful of butterflies mimic the monarch, some, like the queen butterfly actually still are poisonous but since the appearance the monarchs coloration so well known among predators it’s similar color scheme means it won’t be bothered either.
was also thinking like that
Monarchs have black abdomens while the tigers body is colored orange, same colors different places
Only other mimic I seen was a viceroy butterfly
tiger butterflies (this one is named a common tiger) are in the same genus as monarchs
Incredible clip! Really great example of predator prey relationship and one of magnificent ways that prey defends itself.
The caterpillar was like maple getting poison resistant
Dude that's nuts. The spider just knows it's a bad trade.
Butterfly to the spider: call ... call an ambulance ... but not for me
I liked how the spider freed that butterfly recognizing the danger it posed to it, insects are amazingly intelligent. I'm impressed😀🙄

Unbelievable that a caterpillar has so much intelligence!
Such a strategy at an infant stage. Nature is the ultimate wonder 🙌
Fascinating
Spider was like nah fam you gotta go
that's the sound a caterpillar makes when is feasting, like a DJ
It's crazy how much these look like monarchs, even down to the males having those pheromone receptor spots on his hind wings? But even the larvae and chrysalides look like a monarch's! I would by no means call myself an expert but I'm a hobbyist entomologist and have handled bugs my whole life/ raise monarchs in the summer but I don't think I've ever even HEARD of these mimics- when you say "tiger butterfly" my mind jumps to tiger swallowtails. REALLY cool and makes me want to find a specimen to include in a framed monarch piece I recently did including a viceroy. I love how I can still learn about new bugs all the time!
Question how do you get the cameras this close unless it's some super good zoom
Thanks tiger butterfly! Thanks to you now I know that poison builds are viable.
