Your point about the old-timey hand carding lady got me thinking like "Yes why do I have that exact image... I feel like there is a PBS-related reason." So I googled. Cast your mind back to 1987. Reading Rainbow is already in its 5th season and LEVAR BURTON GOES TO THE RENN FAIRE AND MEETS LITERALLY THE LADY YOU DESCRIBE. The book was Rumplestiltskin. The clip is on UA-cam as "Fairytales - Classic Reading Rainbow."
I love the “do what you feel like doing at the moment” idea. I so relate to making myself do what creative thing I think I need to do that I end up not getting anything done and the joy is gone. I’m adopting your attitude- it sounds like way more fun.
Wonderful video, Evie! It's great to see you just relaxing and having fun. And, on the best plus side, this has got to be the greatest Advent unboxing I've EVER seen this year! The gifts are practical AND adorable! YAY!!! Hugs
Real quick jumping in the comments to say that as a mom of a newborn and 1 year old whose husband works 12hr shifts, I don't have time to watch vlogs really but every time I see the thumbnail I stop and read the title just to get a glimpse of what's going on with miss Evie. I admire you for doing vlogmas, that's a lot of effort. Hope you have a great holiday ❤
A great trick to manage some of those inspirational needs is something pretty fun. Get a jar, tin or box and write those needs and ideas that you are excited about, on some paper and place them inside. On those days when you are lacking inspiration, just randomly grab one of those papers. One of those papers should also include "decorating your inspiration jar". Happiest of holidays to you and your family! Be well, live well and dream well.
Such an informative and interesting video ! Loved the bits about sheep genetic and white differences ! And Oh God how adorable are the stitch markers ! I'm actually envious of that advent box XD
My three sheep are (mostly) Targhee. The ewe is black, and the two ewe lambs are white. They are very soft and squishy ❤. I will find out if their fleeces stay that way when we shear them this spring. 😊
aaaaah, now that I see the hand carding technique demonstrated on film its so much easier to understand than reading directions on how to do it in a book or article.
You are darn right... it's your channel and you can do what you like... !! Yes.. and please continue to do so.. love seeing you back so strong and love your energy and perseverance and determination and all the info you share... Thank You
I do it 3 times. I think I see why I have been struggling, I'm overloading my cards! Thank you! Really enjoy your video. By the way, I washed more fleece, and locks look about 3". I'm hoping it goes well. Maybe I'll try on Tuesday.
Some of my favorite videos are the ones where wool is going from fleece to bats/rollags/combed top. It's something i absolutely want to do more than the actual making of something from the yarn. One day, i will do it. I hope.
Yes!!!! White is dominant! I experienced that when i bred my black Icelandic buck to my white rambouillet ladies. And every 1 of them is white! Haha 1 Bay this year did have an adorable black dot under her tail so cute!! But yes so crazy. And yes!!! It's your channel and you get to play the way you want!!!
Would you please: A whole vlogmas on long draw and what you need to do to prepare your fleece to do this. A vlogmas on hand spinning what you have to do to the fleece prior(do you card it special for long draw) and while in your hand to not use two hands. As you can guess, I hand spin. I would love to spin as effortlessly as you make it look! And long draw, just how?
My cousin has my grandmother 👵 carding cards, which she used for wool to use make batting for her quilts. I think my baby quilt is one she made in the past. Mom 👩 washed it, and my mother didn't know what wasn't to wash the quilt. When I cleaned out my parents, I found it in a bad way in the drawer.
As a bunny owner (okay, who owns who is kinda still a good question) it's making me happy that there are people who make angora fibre and are making sure the rabbits are happy and well taken care of. They need so much attention and space. I keep my bunny's fur that I pluck, because he hates brushing (he doesn't like plucking either, but I have to do something so he won't eat his loose fur) and I want to learn how to use drop spindle, so one day I can make yarn out of it. It will never be jumper quantity, because he's a dwarf bunny with quite short hair, but anything will be good. And at least I know I won't be allergic to it, because it's already everywhere in the apartment 😂 But his fur is so silky, I think it will be a hell to spin as a beginner, I need practice on something more grippy.
Two questions: 1. How do you decide when you have enough fiber on the card? 2. How do you decide when you have carded it enough? What characteristic are you looking for?
I enjoy watching you so much! ❤️ I'm pretty new to your channel, and right now hoping that you always upload this much, but it's probably just a Christmas thing, isn't it? 👀😁
I just LOVE your videos! A friend just loaned me her spinning wheel because I've always wanted to learn how to spin. She also gifted me some fiber. It's clean, free of any debris, and apparently ready to spin. But it's LOADED with lanolin. Should I scour it first before attempting to spin it? Or can I spin it like that? Also, as I have never touched a spinning wheel before, where do I start? Merry Christmas!
I’d recommend scouring it first, as it will make spinning a lot easier, but there's no harm in trying a bit without scouring to get a feel for it! I have lots of spinning tutorials to get you started if you search my channel. Welcome!

That’s amazing! I have to check it out.

I am so looking forward to getting my spindle and start spinning.

Hi Evie! I enjoy all your videos because they are a respite for me from my 2 jobs. So, whatever you present is fun! Thank you.
Wow! Spinning last time, and now carding. I love your channel!😍Keep up the wonderful, “doing what I like” perspective, too🥰
thank you for letting us hang out with you while you do things you enjoy.

Thank you for answering the questions about the wool in the previous Christmas vlog. And thank you for another lovely episode of the vlog.

I forgot to say that I, too, have a flees to card after the busy season of the holidays.

Haven't watched yet - just sat down to wrap presents and so happy to do it with you Evie 💖

I learned a lot just by watching!!

Welcome!! It's a Christmas/vlogmas thing but after this you'll get weekly videos.

Love the oranges
you can get peeled chestnuts from Asian food markets. one step closer to mont blanc.
I've never seen anyone roll a rolag on the back of a comb ... interesting, will give that a try. - Carolyn
Carding is so relaxing, good choice to vanish the mental clutter of holiday "shoulds"
JillianEve, not sure if I missed it but do you have a pattern for your apron?
I found it at Trader Joe's.
By the way your amazing spinner.
