I love both!! They’re equally versatile for their respective effects categories, sometimes I find multi-effects units to have watered down effects (quantity over quality) but that’s not the case with either of them. Reverb has incredible value because there are some modes I can’t really find in other pedals, and the more studio/realistic reverbs are incredible. I really wanted to dive deep into the more standard reverb sounds for this demo, but I was fascinated by the more out-of-the-box modes. This pedal is definitely going to pop up in future videos of mine so I can continue to keep exploring it! If you’re looking for a catch-all for delay effects, echosystem is perfect and in the same tier of quality as Reverb
The Empress is the best reverb pedal I have ever played. The sounds are pure ear candy. The only downside is I need the manual to get the settings I want. If you have the cash and don't get option paralysis, this one is 5/5 stars, so good it makes crappy playing sound inspired.
Right?! My new lever harp definitely handles most distortions better than my pedal harp, and this came out so beautiful!! More distortions coming soon :)
I just have your videos playing in a stream in my earphones while I work and I can't manage to like them all. Just consider me liking every single one you post :) Great skills and I love how that magical instrument sounds through all those effects... I'm a metalhead and I've been listening to the harph for hours now - go figure :)
I owned one of these for years and love it so much. I ended up trading for an Eventide Space and even though I love that as well, I really miss the Empress, especially the Ghost mode. Great video as always!!
your playing is so so so good. it always takes me to another universe. it's almost not fair to review these pedals with such a talented player because you make them all look great.
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate that. Hahahaha well that’s not quite true though - plenty of pedals I receive to demo/review don’t sound good - I just send them back most of the time and don’t feature it on my channel!!!
Wow. That's definitely a reverb pedal I would use. The reverse reverb is probably my favorite, though, ghost mode is absolutely beautiful. And sparkle mode! My gosh! It does help that there is stunning music being played through it.
thank you so much!! I always wanted to try the Context 2 (I think Particle is next on my list, tho). and hey don't feel bad, it's never too late to pick another Empress Reverb up! I can't tell you how many times I sold a pedal only to buy it back again later 😂
Funny enough I found your channel because of Ola Englund's fart pedal video. I searched "fart pedal" and your video came up also. I watched and laughed, but knew right away I needed to sub to your channel when I realized your channel was about playing a harp and using effects pedals. Really glad I found your channel.
I’m so glad you found my channel, Haven!!!!! Welcome to my small community 😊 a lot of people found my channel through the fart pedal and I’m so grateful hahahah I love that video. Thanks for being here!!!
I'm obsessed with the song you're playing at the beginning on the lever harp! Is that an original song or is it from somewhere? It's beautiful! Great video, this pedal seems amazing!
Super great demo, Emily! Crazy as it sounds, I bought this pedal on accident. I thought I was getting the Empress delay, but I loved it so much when it came that I couldn’t bear to send it back!
@@emilyharpist I didn’t end up getting the Echo System, but I have so many delay pedals and plugins that I’d have a really hard time justifying that purchase at this point. I’ve made a point these past few months of trying hard to spend time making music with the gear I have instead of spending my time hunting for new gear. I’ve actually created a lot more music because of that shift. I’ve actually unsubbed from many You Tube channels because they’re really just long form advertisements in disguise. I love your playing and your artistry, however which is why I’ve stayed here. Your work reminds me of the importance of really listening hard to the sounds I’m creating, and to respond to those sounds. Your playing is so masterful in many respects, but that’s what I love best about your channel. Keep up the amazing work!
@@samecoff2788 Omg Sam that means so much to me!! Thank you so much. It can be a little overwhelming with all the new gear coming out all the time, and sometimes it is best to just plant yourself and sink into what you have now. I’m a big proponent of that, but I have been spending a lot of my time lately experimenting and discovering as many new sounds as I can. I’ve been having so much fun making these videos. When it’s time to sit down and create, the worst thing you can do is hold off until you have”the right thing” - 9 times out of 9, not having a piece of gear or the nice new thing isn’t what’s actually holding you back. Find the stuff that’s right for you and sink into it!!
@@emilyharpist When is the Heavy demo coming? In truth it's probably a bit much for the harp, but the built in gates could really make it almost usable. In the end, the Empress Germ Drive might be super functional. Do your harps use piezo-style mics as pickups?
I'm in love ! Already knew your channel, talents and good vibes, but you got a fantastic aura. Shiny Emily you are ! Thank you so much for being a great inspiration and sharing your energy. Take good care.
its crazy how usable the ranges of knobs are when used with your harp. A reverb pedal w the mix at 100 on a guitar sounds like a washed out fart in a cave lol
This pedal sounds way better with the first harp, (the red/brown one? I don't know what to call it.) The blue harp sounds lovely but the pedal is swiping left on it for some reason, knowing full well this could be an anomaly of You Tubes sound reproduction. I have certain guitars that don't marry tonally with some pedals. Especially when recording. It's weird.
dumb question from someone unfamiliar with harps but are you playing into a microphone and then putting that through the pedal, or are there pickups on ur harp?
Selling mine since I got the UA Golden. I never used any of the fancy effects on the Empress since Zoia takes the cake on modulation and the Golden is outrageously good ‘standard’ reverbs, the Empress just sits there gathering expensive dust. I could seriously sell ALL my pedals but the Golden, Zoia and my ODs and be perfectly content.
@@emilyharpist It really makes you feel like you are in an actual acoustic space, hall, room whatever and the plate is perfect. Spring verbs too. It’s by far the best verb pedal IMO. Sound quality wise anyhow.
Also it makes me so happy to see you playing the Serrana standing up! Do you find it scary to play it standing up with the only support being from those two legs? How do you set the harp back/down?
I love playing it standing up!! I don’t find it scary, the harp leans on my body and the bottom of the legs have rubber grips that keep it from slipping! It’s pretty easy to lay it down on a soft surface while the legs are out, then push the button to retract them while it’s on the ground. I’m still getting used to it but there haven’t been any issues!!! Such a fun harp :)
@@emilyharpist I love it! I love the idea of playing while standing, that is just so cool! And its so much cheaper than the Camac elec harp. I just didn't understand how those legs work on the DS harp, since there are only two of them. It seems like it would be unstable/shaky, but maybe not.
I think you just sold me a pedal lmao. It sounds great, would work great in an ambient black metal album or something, especially on the ghost or lofi settings. Might just have to get one :)))
hahah YESSS thank you so much for being here, Ethan! you definitely won't regret picking up an Empress Reverb; it's probably my favorite reverb pedal ever!!
I only listen to one harper, and its mother fuckin Emily Hopkins! Harp on do harpers have once a year to fight and see who is on top like the Danes do?
What are your thoughts on it vs the echosystem?
This a reverb pedal, the echosystem is delay. Different beasts

I was thinking the same like "I wonder if this a song that's been released somewhere". This is really good.
That very last piece, you could charm the elves down from the trees with it. I guess Alice Coltrane brought me here. Delighted from Colombia.
man, reverb is my favorite effects category and empress has some simply stunning 'verbs. The harp sounds amazing through them too!
