Everett Railroad 11: The Martinsburg Local

On a warm and windup November day, we had the chance to step back in time to the 1940s. We attended Chris Lantz Photography’s Everett Railroad “Martinsburg Mixed” freight photo charter. The charter included run-bys ay various locations on the railroad with different consists throughout the day. But what made this charter different from other charters is instead of focusing on run-bys at specific locations, the charter focused more on what life was like on and around the railroad in the 1920-40s. Overall it was a great charter and money well spent.

There’s just something special about small locomotives such as 11. Even though they’re small, they have a lot of character and put on just as good of a show as the bigger locomotives do.

My did lives near a railroad crossing where 11 passes over and I can hear the whistle every time except when I'm sleeping

That's a Wheeling and Lake Erie five chime off of one of their Berkshires, 6428.
