You do have to consider the type of and direction of impact. For the most part here he's just trying to burn it with the knife, and the only big impact he makes on it is with a small point straight into the front of the glass, whereas if you were to drop the phone it would more than likely hit the ground in some other fashion, such as the edge of the phone striking the ground first.
