I always love the sand blasting it is very therapeutic. And it was beautiful work once again. I do wonder what the cat is called now but rust and cats my two favourite things
I’ve watched quite a few of these other restoration shows and yours is by far the best. Most of them just blast the crap out of things. At least you try other options. Anyway, I’m a fan and I tell others to watch you lol beautiful job btw, as always.
I love how you made the rust pits into a feature. And it's even functional, it can be used as a knife! Also, yes, I like sandblasting, it's really satisfying to watch. But here's a question, too. I've seen a lot of youtubers who just use sandblasting as their only cleaning tool. Rust, old paint, - everything is just sandblasted off. But here, you used electrolysis and manual removal, and only sandblasted what remained after that. And I believe I've seen at least one other restorator who does similar things. So, is there any special reason not to stick to just sandblasting? Also, possible name for the cat: Partner.
Im not tysy but I've worked with sandblasting before the point of removing as much as you can before sandblasting is that it saves your sandblasting media from becoming too dirty. When the rust and such is blasted off, it doesnt disappear or get filtered out really. I suppose another reason is finding out whether or not there's enough material left to bother with the project to begin with. Rust can cause severe damage.
As an art conservator - Electrolysis and chemical reduction of rust can cause greater pitting than just sandblasting, and can also result in complex corrosion processes further down the line. However, they are faster & easier than sandblasting, and as others have said, it saves you sandblasting medium (which is expensive). Electrolysis in particular can also convert corrosion product back into metal, saving more material. And, if there are toxic materials such as heavy metals present, sandblasting can result in heavy metal poisoning, which is obviously not great to deal with.
Me thinks that all the manual filing &, sanding at the beginning is just adding unnecessary processes. If I were doing it I would remove as much crap as I could with a flap wheel & dremmel first, then use manual tools to finish the finer details not the other way around.
@@SharpForceTrauma Rust can cause severe damage - yeah, and sandblasting indiscriminately can cause a lot more. So as you point out, you want to ensure there's enough metal under the oxide to work with, but also enough to not end up sending the whole thing into the sandblasting media sump. Same reason for electrolysis. This will remove _only_ the oxidised metal, it's a great way to avoid blasting away what little foundation you have left.
Amazing work as always! Not to be pedantic, but that is a bayonet, almost certainly WWI or earlier. Very cool resto job. The cat, imo, should be named Resto. Short for restoration.
Thus may be your best restoration yet. Stunning! And your kitten was so well behaved while you sliced the salmon. Your kitten should be called Mik Mik.

I love sandblasting, but also love the other methods you used to remove rust beforehand. Always so satisfying! This is now my favorite video of yours
The way he can make unrestorable weapons, into useful everyday tools is amazing!
This so cool! I've never tried to do anything like this myself, but you've inspired me to think about it at least loosed. This looks amazing.
A good need for your cat Is Tinker.
I agree! LOL!
I'm glad someone else mentioned that this appears to be an 1800s bayonet. That's what it looks like to me too. It came out really beautiful :) ♡
i think everyone agree that sandblasting is so satisfying . your work is amazing i love watching your videos every single day
i think you should name the cat bubbles because you clean stuff
The hole in the guard is for a rifle barrel. Blue sounds like cute name for him. I love watching your channel.
It's amazing how something that seems beyond repair can be made into something that looks perfectly new

I’ve watched quite a few of these other restoration shows and yours is by far the best. Most of them just blast the crap out of things. At least you try other options. Anyway, I’m a fan and I tell others to watch you lol beautiful job btw, as always.
Noice 😎
"do you like sand blasting?" man its one of the best things ever created
Im not tysy but I've worked with sandblasting before
the point of removing as much as you can before sandblasting is that it saves your sandblasting media from becoming too dirty. When the rust and such is blasted off, it doesnt disappear or get filtered out really.
I suppose another reason is finding out whether or not there's enough material left to bother with the project to begin with. Rust can cause severe damage.
As an art conservator -
Electrolysis and chemical reduction of rust can cause greater pitting than just sandblasting, and can also result in complex corrosion processes further down the line.
@@the_mothmxn Exactly, usually why paint is stripped before sandblasting on things because of lead
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 I loved the part where you added, the golden leaves to the Apoxsee to make it look like liquid gold. My mind is blown.🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Amazing work as always! Not to be pedantic, but that is a bayonet, almost certainly WWI or earlier. Very cool resto job. The cat, imo, should be named Resto. Short for restoration.
yeap, and a triangular bayonet which alot of people think are ilegal base on geneva convention
@@JRpainX People are still using bayonets? Don't they have drones yet?

Yes the sand blowing is VERY satisfying to see it turn from rust to metal! I love your content
Thus may be your best restoration yet. Stunning! And your kitten was so well behaved while you sliced the salmon. Your kitten should be called Mik Mik.
The sandblasting is super satisfying to watch! Really, the whole process is satisfying, but the sandblasting is one of my favourite parts ;D
