Yes Matt’s is a great vers, but for me Frank Sinatra’s version has more power more strength!

I' m italian. I' m a fan of this kind of music.I' ve been in rome only once in my lifetime, when i was 13 years old. Wonderful city! This video brings me the sounds and the lights... the cars of 1970s. Nice!
Andrea Colombo I’m a Brit my late wife and I had a holiday in your wonderful country 20 years ago and one of my wife’s wishes was to have her photo taken sitting on the wall where Matt is sitting with the fountain behind,she passed away 10 years ago but I still treasure the photo ,we had a really wonderful time in Italy the people and the country are fantastic but like in the uk going through a rough time at the moment,stay safe and best wishes for the future.
I love Rome! Such a beautiful city. I hope COVID ends and we could travel back there again.

I've heard Matt sing before but never knew about the video, thank you so much for uploading it, it was a beautiful performance by the fountain in the eternal city. Sinatra was a big fan when he heard Matt was seriously ill he contacted him personally and Frank never did that for many people.

Matt Monro had a wonderful voice...I remember standing in front of this fountain back in 1969..like everyone else I turned and threw a coin over my back...supposedly assuring my return to Rome one day...it hasn't happened yet but...one never knows! Rome is a beautiful city full of history..forget San Fransisco, I think I left my heart there !

The 1954 film on the MOVIES cable channel brought me here today . I think he might have sung this for the film. I was used to seeing men look like this - very Mad Men style, so classy. (The Paper Chase, film, 1973 starring Timothy Bottoms and John Houseman (which inspired the series) is on next.)

No, it's the famous Trevi Fountain in Rome - perhaps the most famous fountain in the world. The movie "Three Counts In The Fountain" was all about it. The song came from the 1954 movie.

This is a classic case of the musical arrangement hijacking a good song, and drowning out Matt Monro's beautifully silk voice!
It certainly wasn't Nelson Riddle. That's what made the Sinatra version so good, even if the vocals weren't up to Matt's.

Listen to the very start of the Sinatra version. The music is almost a tingling sensation of good to come, like the first scene where she is coming out of the dark airport into the sun and takes in the beauty. Corny comment maybe, but to me it's a wonderful moment. And your comment is perfect.

@@Paris__ Thank you for saying that. It all brings tears to my eyes because the movie and song were so perfect together at the perfect time. Sadly, my life didn't work out. But as a young person, I was a hopeless romantic and had such big dreams, mostly to find Her.
And yet, a single song, film, smell or moment in time makes you remember someone, who no longer remembers you.
But I think it's true of us as human beings, that we will always hold a candle for that moment in time. Even until it flickers out and burns our hand.
And when the light has long since gone, we will still be there in the darkness holding what remains, quite simply because we cannot let go.
