This intro is hilarious. Rachel is adorable, you are a very lucky man to have such a smart, beautiful lady with such a great sense of humor in your life. Hang on to her!
11:41 if I’m not mistaken, you've got your wires in the wrong position. Maybe? I can’t see, but I believe no. 4 wire is plugged into no. 1 position. You would have to take your cap off, there is a small mark on the lip of the dizzy showing no 1 position. Then clockwise 4-3-2. Also, no compression? Take the valve covers off see that all valves are opening and closing on rotation, then gently tap on the valve head with a wooden block and mallet….gently.. This will nock the crud off the seats and maybe give you compression. Also, you might want to shoot some say….20:1 oil and gas mix down the throat….like a cup, and rotate the engine. This will also improve the sealing of the rings, washing the crap off the valve seats and improving compression…..do it by hand though because it will probably hydrolock, and you will need to back up…..back and forth. Once it spins free….you should be able to use the starter. Just trying to help. Thank you for your video
I cut a lot of footage from this video. At one point, I put the plug wires on 90 degrees “out of order” so I could attempt to get a good range of timing. The vacuum canister was hitting the fuel pump before I could get the timing where I wanted it. All the valves open and close. Sometimes, they just don’t run.
It hurts me when you call Rachell stupid, mostly because she now knows way more about air cooled engines than I ever will. So if she's stupid, then I'm a totall moron! Thanks for the videos, have a nice weekend!
11:16 that’s no. 2 Chief. Also, does a 36hp engine have a different distributor drive than other VW engines? I think the dizzy, only goes in one way. Because the drive slot is offset. So…you shouldn’t have any problems swapping the distributor, save for timing. (Slight adjustments left or right) Correct?
Yes, that’s correct. It is no. 2 that I’m pointing at when the exhaust valve is opening and closing. Which is how I know I’m on TDC of Cyl. 1 because both valves are closed.
And I was thinking you'd wacked him over the head with a wrench and burried him in the back garden (or yard) as you say in the USA, so he's back here is he?@@wickedwerks
I agree with Rachel that it is loaded up with rodent crap and it turned over so well. Nice try but i would get out my torch and heat up the plugs and get them out , a little heat and some rust breaker. Good video and nice to see the shop is bearably cold.
I’ll probably keep it and try to collect the needed parts to rebuild it. The heads are trashed and I’m certain the PnCS are too. I’ll split the case and make sure the case is good.
About the standard 1200 cc engines: Why is it, that you always refer to them as 36 HP? In Germany, the standard 1200 cc bug engines are rated as 34 HP only (the very old ones as low as 30 HP).
Not sure. Just the nomenclature I’ve been around. It’s funny you mention the earliest ones being as low as 30ho because we call the early ones “25hp” engines 😂 it’s odd, I tend to hear people use the hp rating to identify a motor until the 1300. I.e. “that’s a 25hp/36hp/40hp” and that it becomes 1300/1500/1600 and so on.
I just noeted, that even in the wikipedia, the German version states 30 /34 hp whereas the english version states 34 and 36 in the same article but with no source given. "The original 18.6 kW (24.9 hp) Beetle was designed for a top speed around 100 km/h (62 mph), which would be a viable cruising speed on the Reichsautobahn system. As Autobahn speeds increased in the postwar years, its output was boosted to 27 kW (36 hp), then 30 kW (40 hp), the configuration that lasted through 1966 and became the "classic" Volkswagen motor. " versus "During this post-war period, the Beetle had superior performance in its category with a top speed of 115 km/h (71 mph) and 0-100 kilometres per hour (0-62 mph) in 27.5 seconds with fuel consumption of 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres (42 mpg‑imp; 35 mpg‑US) for the standard 25 kW (34 hp) engine. " I know only about the 1200cc 34 hp engine and wonder, where 36 hp comes from?
Some of us might know or have idea about the stupid thing. Jason might have mentioned something about it, last year in one of his videos. I could be totally wrong.
Bwahahaha fail. But hey, watcha expect from that crusty thing. At first when you blew that crap all over with the open intake I was like Aaaack! Then I saw the rest of the motor and was like.... never-ending 😂😅 I have a nice version of that (1958) waiting for a car/ bus that needs one.
We need more Rachel in these videos. You guys are comedic gold together.
You are taking the words right out of my mouth...
I agree, it's like watching 'Married with Children', only the children are VWs.
Nice to see Rachel again! I missed her... she's cute and adds a certain touch to your videos. Beside that, Wicked Works rocks! Go on!

I have the same motor at home in the same state ready for a rebuild, Good luck with it :)
I really like your MAD MAX switch panel for starting engines on the stand
Congratulations! I'm happy for you two!
Leave the shop vac running, and it's hose nearby when blasting with compressed air. It'll catch a lot of that stuff from flying into the air
You owe us an opening belly slide in the next video to make up for this no chair slide opening.
Nice 914 in the background!
It may not have run but still great to see you working together😍

Rachel knows more about EVERYTHING than I ever will. Literally a walking encyclopedia. We call each other dummies lovingly 😂
'ask your Mom' 😂
She's back!

GREAT BARRIER REEF
Good realistic video….not all ends well. Good to see Pickles
At least there were no dead mice in there. How's the British fella doing? Haven't seen him in a while.
He was deported.

I’m sure I could get the plugs out, but with how badly the aluminum is degraded around it, I’m not sure a plug would go back in.
I’m interested in what you’re going to do with that motor now ?
I’ll probably keep it and try to collect the needed parts to rebuild it. The heads are trashed and I’m certain the PnCS are too. I’ll split the case and make sure the case is good.

Mfw I currently watching this video with EXACTLY the same mug and cappuccino in it....
She is gorgeous and put AMSOIL in it
I panicked when you started to turn the engine with the distributor out 😅
I think turning it by hand is okay, but I would never crank it with the starter like that 😂
@@wickedwerks I mean, I guess you proved that.
sans slide. 😞
Thanks for trying. PS Rachel’s not an idiot you’re kidding right?
Yes I’m kidding 😂😂 she’s infinitely smarter than I am
Well, you’re not that stupid yourself so she must be really intelligent 👍🏽
Moira....😂😂😂😂
Looks so cold in there. lol. I know what the stupid thing is. Hahaha
What a let down…. 😂
I do love to disappoint 😂
@@wickedwerks good to see you both in a video again. Have a great weekend 🤙

Hoping at the last absolute minimum the case is good enough to rebuild; every other part is trash 😂
Submerge the motor in a container of kerosene and let it soak for a week. It might come apart without destoying everything. Good luck
Nice try 👍🏻
That was like telling a joke with no punchline.
