Reminds me a little of O.J Simpson. Same build, similar stride. Both about 6'2" 210lbs. He sure was fun to watch. Retired at 28 with almost 7,000 yards after starting slowly with injuries too. He could have racked up crazy yardage.
He came to see me when I was a kid in the hospital... He stayed for almost twenty min in my room talking and then we went for a walk... IV pole and everything...
He called it quits super early. I brought head injuries to light for me. Even as a player I really never knew the dangers. But I loved his running style. His long strides were super unique.
@@dereksmith6318 he actually called it quits after his best season in a contract year. He was set to get paid, but didn't. He walked away to become a doctor. Which from what I recall, the doctor career didn't last long. And I think he didn't walk away from the game for head issues, but more walking/knee issues. I think the walking conditions of Earl Campbell had an effect on some.
@@jackoff1826 he had re-injured his left knee late in the 2000 season. Smith had 3 previous surgeries on that knee,(torn ACL, torn meniscus, cartilage damage) just decided the money wasn't worth it over his health.
Man he gave us fits back in the day! He rocked that twisted 3bar and had that long running stride like Eric Dickerson. Robert Smith ran the ball real smooth like Matt Forte.
He runs with grace and has deceptive great speed with those long strides. He has a PB of 10.24 metres in the 100 metres. Moss and Carter frequently made great blocks for him.
glad there's some film quality film on him. People forget he was a great NFL rb cuz he's been doing the college football analysis and he don't really talk himself up like that
Yep, re-injured his left knee late in the 2000 season. Smith had three previous surgeries on that knee. (torn ACL, torn meniscus, cartilage damage) asked why he retired, his quote: "It's better to walk away early than limp away late". But still holds the NFL touchdown yards per average record at 27.2 yards per TD run.
Seriously??? Can you tell me where to find that type of info? I’ve been digging into the best long TD players this season and I’d love to find more stats. I end up looking at so many individual player TD logs hahah. I also read an article about Tyreek hill being the most prolific long TD guy at age 26. But of course he’s still young. And maybe that was for WRs only? You talking all positions or RBs?
Wow ok so i checked his TD log and 14 of his career 32 TDs went for at least 30 yards!! Some seasons he only scored like 7-10 TDs and like 80 percent of them were long hahah. I def believe you now hahah!
Hey! Sorry to be annoying! I found it! A NYtimes article states that smiths 26.6 yards per RuSHIng touchdown is the longest with at least 20 career touchdowns!! So cool! And this doesn’t even take into account his receiving TDs! Of which he had 67 yarders and others over 30,40 and 50! Man that’s wild! I was barley 10 when I first found Smith, and it was his last NFL season. I remember being so surprised as a kid that the guy who appeared to me to be the best running back I saw was already retiring! But lucky for me I discovered Ricky Williams and that is when my football love really took off:) ( or should I say football love that is entirely dependent on running backs haha). Sorry to bother you but thanks for the info! God bless!
My favorite Viking. I loved how he would flip the ball to the ref after scoring. And that style/stride. Both tough and graceful. I wish him a long life with an undamaged brain.
I was just sitting here and out of no where i was like "Robert Smith was a beast" so i ended up here '22😂
Me too 😂😂😂
Robert smith was underrated
Fun fact his daughter goes to my school
Thanks for saying this because that was my thoughts exactly
@@Drewieooie Another fun fact: he was a world class sprinter in track&field. Dude ran 10.2 in the 100 meters
Criminally
Took the words out my mouth
We steelers fans love #26Rob Smith
He always looked like he was gliding with that slow long stride but he'd be outrunning everyone.
Style that reminded me of Eric Dickerson's
He ran 10.24 as a PB in the 100 metres.

I agree. Started watching nfl in 97.
OJ was a slasher. He loved to cut and run.
He was smart as the SMB says "take the money and run"
Robert Smith, one of my favorite running backs, his running Style reminded me of OJ Simpson!
Btw in dating his daughter

I miss those days where the ESPN music was like that. Take me back please
I am a lifelong diehard Eagles fan...but guy was and is my favorite football player of all time.
As a Vikes fan definitely my favorite running back they ever had, even more so than Adrian and Dalvin.
Holds the all-time NFL record for average yards per touchdown run at 27.2
I was not aware of that.
Love watching old school clips
Disturbing that you call early 90's to 2000 old scholl.
@@43captrexkramer well we are getting older even though I’m 26. Just an older generation you know
Underrated
Yo bro...you really dug in the crates for this one. Best back Vikings ever had til Peterson was drafted.
in some ways, better than Peterson
@@jaylee5692 No. Not at all.
@@jakegarman4526 he could block and catch, AP not so much

Yet NO ONE gives Moss credit for being a decent blocker smh
With all the great running backs since day one, Robert Smith was always my favorite. So smooth and effortless.
Wow! Robert Smith was smooth! Great highlights!
He was dope. That long strive was monster
He runs with grace and has deceptive great speed with those long strides. He has a PB of 10.24 metres in the 100 metres.
Moss and Carter frequently made great blocks for him.
They were the only ones able to keep up
Love the video. Even if my Bears were on the wrong side of some of those highlights. Smith was a very good runningback
Wow thank you been waiting for more footage on this man he was pretty good and unique 👌🏾
glad there's some film quality film on him. People forget he was a great NFL rb cuz he's been doing the college football analysis and he don't really talk himself up like that
Unique long stride for a running back
I Love ❤❤ Vikings ❤❤
The spin doctor could ... go ... all ... the ... way!!!
Great running form.
Those glides. He has the same true game breaker house call threat that AP had as well. Speed for days.
Randy Moss and Cris Carter may have been the two best downfield blockers the game has ever seen
Yeah man
That 98 Vikings team could be considered a “greatest show on turf” squad too. They were explosive, could hit you from anywhere just like the 99 Rams.
Max speed and great hands too
He was one hell of a player in Minnesota
It's a shame he fell victim to the injury bug at the prime of his career
Prime of his career was his final year, he was perfectly healthy. He chose to be a doctor instead.

My man 💯💯
6 foot 5 legs, 5.7 upper body
Thank you!
Chuck Foreman, Michael Bennett, and Onterria Smith were all great Minnesota Vikings running backs. But Robert Scott Smith was the difference maker.
Only RB I've seen in my lifetime that was so fast ran out of his shoe.
Herschel Walker and the juice did it too
also another Ohio State RB, Keith Byars lost a shoe on a 67 yard TD run
Marshall Faulk was the fastest
I'm a cowboy fan but I would have loved to have this dude on Dallas back in the day he was trouble
Anytime you found yourself rooting against those Vikings it wasn't Moss ir Carter that drove you nuts it was Robert Smith.
So many chain moving runs.
he was one of the vikings. power and speed ans elusive. too bad he had a shortened career. on my list he is #2 next to chuck foreman then AP
4:15. Still the greatest full speed juke I’ve ever seen.
I like #26 #20 # 44 #32 R BB s
you gotta admit the vikings have had some great backs throughout history
And now they have Dalvin Cook
Smooth as a cruise boat floats when he strides. #stewart scott
Nice video! Could you do a Javon Walker or Tony Gonzalez?
Style that is similar to Eric Dickerson's ---long strides, glides
Super good back.
ran a 10.24 in the 100m his sophmor year at ohio state (track and field, 6'2" 215lb) -- insane
My Dad had to play this guy
About them Vikings
Bro we need Reggie Wayne college highlights 😩 I can’t find any and Laveranues Coles
Homerun hitter had alot of them every yr

Chuck Foreman was the Spin Doctor not Robert!!
Thanks you too love Artis Lee Mcqueen Love LIL Vingking
I dont think Robert smith loved the game of football which is a shame because he had a world of talent
Boy was fast
He was O.J Simpson 2.0
2:17 I think he may have boke that TBB ankle I miss the NFC Central TB was the team you scheduled ed for homecoming kinda like NW in the big ten
That’s not any Tampa Bay Buccaneer... that’s John Lynch
Thanks 😊 You N F L
Can you do a video on John Taylor 49ers wife receiver
Sneaky fast and allusive!
Memphis running back Blake Watson has the same running style. I think they are related
Roger Craig or (extrapolated) Robert Smith... Discuss
Alot like Roger Craig minus the high knees plus shades of OJ
Retired early like Barry Sanders
He ran like a 400 m. sprinter.
2023
He quit partially because of randy moss’ shenanigans and quitting on plays.
Haha not likely. He walked away to become a doctor and appreciated his body's health.
Sources? Fake news
Not 1 spin ... Not 1!! Smh
You trying to spin this huh
Retired to early
