Most of my friends and coworkers tease me about being a cheapskate because I drive an old beat up Honda Civic, I bring my lunch to work everyday and I buy my clothes at Goodwill. The part they always seem to forget is that I’m completely debt free at 47 years old. I own my house free and clear and I’ve got money in the bank. Meanwhile they’re all moaning about being broke, behind on their rent and car payments and all their other bills because they live from one paycheck to the next. It’s all about priorities!

I am a single mom with 2 kids, working 3 jobs (not counting UA-cam). I work my first 2 jobs from home M-F and deliver food on the weekends. I started at about $50K in debt. I'm down to $39K. My dream is to get out of debt and buy a nice property and a house, so we don't have to live in our horrible condo anymore. Your videos are a great inspiration to me.

Not leaving money to my extended family as most of them spend money on foolish things and to impress others. I don't have children. I plan to leave it all to carefully vetted organizations that rescue dogs, cats and wildlife. I'm sure the dogs, cats and wildlife will be thankful. I don't need them to be proud of me.

I'm going to stop use less spending and save as much as I can until I die. My goal is to leave at least 50,000 in the bank for my single daughter, she has a home I bought and I will leave her my annuity to pay the bills. There is nothing I really need, beyond up keep for house and car. I'm going to to my best for the next 5 years. I have no debt.

Living like no one else may mean house sharing. I have been doing that with my dad and three siblings and it is working out great. I love living frugal. My 250,000 co op is paid off. Sold house when children grew up. You don't get much in NYC....and I am not in Manhattan but a different borough of NYC. I am proud I am debt free...and most of my activities cost little or nothing. I still work part time on social security which starts never month. On no medication so no co payments. I walk everywhere so no car. I use my phone as a hotspot for my part time work from home. Children 39 and 27...and yes children are expensive but got good child support...and they turned out good. One a doctor...one a restaurant worker...
I did splurge on a good bed and mattress for 3,000 but rest of furniture is less expensive. I bought home gym stuff...large mirror, mats, and weight....but no gym membership...I spent over about 1,500 on art..but love my home...so don't need to spend going out as much....and cooking from scratch allows me to enjoy the best meals ever!! I live near parks and beaches and ponds in my area of NYC...so free to enjoy nature....free books and DVDs from library...

The reason it's so hard to do what Prepper has done is that Americans are constantly bombarded with advertisements and media to "want" everything and to do anything to get it. As a result, going into debt is considered acceptable while taking action to reduce/avoid debt is considered weird. In reality, the opposit is true but the powers that be don't want you to know the truth because it's bad for business.

I have been watching your channel for about eight months and have made adjustments in my thinking about money and how I impulse buy. Thank you for sharing your journey with your fans. I encourage the purchase of your book because it's a great way to start taking a realistic look at where we are as consumers. I found encouragement to continue with the journey of becoming a wise and purposeful consumer.

You are inspirational! I borrowed lots of money to go to school and at the time of loan consolidation interest rates were 9.5% and happy to get them! That's when I started my frugal journey. It took 10 years to pay off those suckers but it was 1/2 of the 20 year loan period. It was difficult but having that burning goal negated all the other talk in my head. In some weird way it was enjoyable...like crawling that last few feet over the finish line. I remained frugal after and was able to retire at 54 with just a side hustle for my remaining expenses,

Frontier (my phone company) used to call me 3 times a week for a year at least to try to get me to buy the higher speed internet (fiberoptic) telling me how great it was. Finally after a year, I asked how much it was? It was $10 more per month than my slow speed!!! I laughed and said why would I want to pay more when I don't need the faster speed? They stopped calling me!!!

Hi Prepper Princess I got La care by Medicare. I hope to get your book by next month. I have to pay off my credit card bills. Use ebt for groceries. I don’t like to cc. At times I have to limit my use. I like recycling bottles and cans just make some change and extra income. I glad you got out of debt me too. I still have to pay off my loan. That is a nice story. You really worked so hard. I was a long term caretaker too. I hope to downsize one day. When things get better. Going to therapy to get a peace of mind. You are a wonderful daughter. Stay well and safe 👍💖😀

In 2004, I had the opportunity to go to Cambodia to research the need of schools for a grassroots org I helped co-found called Trailblazer Foundation based out of Jackson, WY, in order to apply for a non-profit status to raise funds. After a month of cultural immersion in a third world country, I did NOT want to return to a spoiled rotten, entitled, materialistic environment with no value of what really matters..."we come into this life and we go out of it except for the good we can do for others" It's just stuff we can do without! Thank you so much for the channel. I will pass you on to everyone I know! Some of us get it, but most don't, so we listen to them complaining "I want it now or it will be the end of the world! A little suffering can go a long way to educate about the real world, and so can compromise!

My husband and I are arguing about his pants. He says he needs more. He got home from work and we counted them. He has 8 pair. He needs sneakers. We agreed to get him a new pair. We are so low in debt, it's mind boggling. We definitely live near poverty line. The house will be paid off this year. We will then be spending below poverty line. My mother died in a hospital two days after we visited her 32 years ago. It was shortly after I got married. Hugs for your loss.

I used to have Capsule wardrobes but all the mixing and matching did my head in, and I always felt there was a gap to fill.. I've now gone back to having complete outfits.
I have 7 everyday outfits, a weeks worth, per season, I have 7 outfits for Spring/Summer and 7 outfits for Fall/Winter. An outfit consists of a top/bottom/cardi. Plus two outfits I rarely wear - a party dress and a funeral outfit.
I do laundry twice a week max. Maybe suggest to him my idea of a weeks worth of outfits per season. I expect he can easily put 7 together. Who needs more than a weeks worth of clothes when you have a washing machine? Unless it is hot and I get sweaty, I often wear my outfits 2 days running, so that is enough clothes for 14 days. If one outfit wears out - rarely happens, I will just buy another complete outfit or the item that is worn. I feel I have more than enough clothes and life is so much simpler. I'm off camping tomorrow for a few days - easy - I just grabbed 2 outfits - jeans, top and cardi - that will last me 4 days. Yes the tops are a bit pretty/fancy for camping, but who cares - I hate t-shirts with a passion and feel really scruffy in them.

We're not fired up about capsule wardrobes. We just are cutting back because...space. Sort of like the Demi Moore Patrick Swayze movie Ghost. He does wear his pants multiple days in a row. That's what made no sense. I cut way back on my clothes awhile ago. PP suggested and others suggested wearing clothes for 2 or 3 days because they don't get as filthy so I may have 3 dirty pair of pants each week. My husband works for the housing authority. Some of the homes are overrun by cockroaches. To avoid bringing the eggs home on the clothes he's wearing, he leaves that outfit outside. I let them sit in the sun and dump Borax on them. Yes, laundry has reduced some. Housecleaning takes a lot less time. Enjoy your camping trip. I wear short sleeves when we go. I hear you on the tshirts.

I live in the desert now and often times I think about how easy we have it. Imagine what life was like for hunter gatherer people in the desert 150 years ago. If you think about it they were incredibly resourceful as well as having a very imaginative mind to find food in the most unlikely and barren of places. They knew how to use certain herbs/plants growing in the wild to cure illness. They could find water where any of us living today would never think to look. They knew what cactus could be eaten or used for hydration. Those people like the Apache for example really lived on nothing.
