This video would have saved me so much time if it had come out earlier! Instead I did all the research myself and came to the same conclusion as you. My main priorities as a student were portability and battery life and both are wonderful in this laptop. I don't need it for gaming or anything (I have a desktop pc for that) so a strong cpu would just be a waste of money. Thank you for this no bs video, I hope it gets the attention it deserves.
For use as a secondary PC to my desktop, my main priority was portability, and battery life is a large part of that. I also think I'll run Linux on it so the 4GB RAM (maximum available on this laptop in Australia) is not necessarily a problem. And I just love the idea of no moving parts - SSD, fanless, no optical drive. Light weight was also a priority for me as well as robustness - which is the only area I'm in doubt about with this laptop. I feel like I may need to be somewhat gentle with it.
Just bought the SF114-33 Acer Swift 1 and loving it (sale price $349 CAN), and does come with backlit keyboard and fingerprint ID. Thin, light, and fast enough to run MS Office. Keeping up on my email accounts are the only other necessary tasks for my needs. The 1080 screen and 3 cell battery (14+ hrs charge) are all bonus.
Just bought one for my daughter and was not sure I bought the right laptop. After your good review I feel I made the right buy. Well she is getting it tomorrow. Now I know she will be happy! Thanks!!
I bought my Acer Aspire during my first year of uni 6 years ago. It's still working fine. Not that slow and still doing good but I am watching these videos because sometimes the screen just goes black so just in case I'll need to buy a new one in a hurry, but now the new Aspire ones are almost 250 euros more expensive than 6 years ago while my budget didn't change 😂😂 so I'll probably go for a Swift... I am scared to be disappointed because my Acer Aspire really worked so well for so long 😬
I have to agree with everyone saying this review really is good, and better than most reviews. Well done to the reviewer. And it's sensible too. Other reviewers be like "My god it's 2020 and you're still not supporting USB-C charging! This deserves to be burned". This review: "it would be nice if it charged via USB-C too but it's no big deal". Exactly. Spot on.
I've had a Swift 1 with N4200 CPU, 4GB RAM, 128 gig storage, used as my main device for nearly three years. Hated the keyboard at first, got used to it. It's really sloooooooow at times, changing from youtube fullscreen to exiting fullscreen. Terrible fingerprint scanner. Used to get 9 hours batt life when I got it, down to about 4 hours now. Probably going to replace the battery as I want to stick with fanless. It's really nice to have the metal case, which can get hot if left in the sun/ charging and cold in the winter. I was left thinking I would have been better off getting a laptop not made of metal for the same price, so a bit more performance, but..... well, the metal is really nice. I got a gold one and there's not a single bit or wear on the finish. Decent sound out of the headphone socket, ok speakers for a laptop I guess. But the volume and brightness cannot be adjusted one handed, which is not easy, hugely inconvenient.
Great review! I am using my Acer Swift 1 for over a year now and I am really happy with it! Even tho I have the very basic model (64GB storage, Intel N3450) it is perfect for me. I use it for MS Office work such as PowerPoint, Word etc.most of the time and in my free time for browsing the web and Netflix/UA-cam. To be honest, if you have multiple tabs open and some of them are loading, watching a video can get quite laggy but I knew that before buying the Notebook (I mean... it's basic model). Everyone who needs a Laptop for browsing the web and working with MS Office it's the perfect option. It feels very premium (especially for its price) and the battery life is great!
Thanks! The N3450 is a bit slower than the newer N5000 in this model of the Swift. In addition to that, the N3450 can only support DDR3 RAM, whereas the N5000 supports DDR4. So there are a few improvements over the N3450 model that should make it a little better with multitasking, but yes, it can slow down if you ask too much of the little guy.
