Nathan, As the designer of the bridge I can tell you the original was replaced as it was no longer fit for purpose and could not be economically repaired. It was not a particularly significant structure, there are literally thousands of this form of construction throughout the rail network. Other new bridge types were investigated but the installed bridge provided significant benefits over other forms of construction. The new bridge is designed to cater for all trains, including the heaviest freight trains, so should help to reduce the number of lorries on the road.
With half the men used it will take THREE TIMES as long (I'm sure you and the whiners won't complain about waiting a few more DAYS for the train to arrive)
Because this bridge replacement is speeded up it looks like a hive of activity whereas in real life all construction sites , road , rail or otherwise progress is pathetically slow and therefore costs a bomb .
For me I like the look of modern still concrete structures but I also would like to have seen a lot more the original brickwork that was on this Bridge retained as as as the the part of the structure closest to the stairs along the bank does three or 4 concrete panels that just stick out like a sore thumb and it would have been much nicer to of kept and retained original brickwork to blend the Newbridge into the existing structure as there's nothing wrong with a steel modern looking Bridge with older infrastructure is that can sometimes create a very nice modern contemporary Trust potential for this site could have been so much better but I suppose in a world where performance over Aesthetics is so crucial sometimes we have to compromise otherwise it was a great video
I,am disappointed with this video purely because they have taken away a historical bridge and for what to replace it with a steel bridge i find that kind of disgusting because where we should be looking at reducing the number of lorries that are on the roads they, Network Rail are encouraging it personally i think that the original bridge is damn sight better than the one that they have put back in it's place and not only that but it is going to cost us the tax payer more money in the long run because it will be made from steel and the metal that the original one is made from will be iron which is a lot stronger than steel and as a greater life expectancy if maintained to meet safety standards god bless the Victorians because they were better at everything when it came to building things in the industrial revolution, mostly railways and other structures than todays structures, because they are crap and aren't worth the money that is spent on them what so ever.

Looks like the new bridge is less of a height restriction too by a good couple of feet.
Great stuff!
Would it have killed them to widen the road a bit more looks like a tight fit
so many men standing around
With half the men used it will take THREE TIMES as long (I'm sure you and the whiners won't complain about waiting a few more DAYS for the train to arrive)
Needed bigger Hoes up top, 16 metric tonns reduced tail swing was struggling
Gotta get some newer video 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️😯
