    The difference between Roland VH-11, 12 & 13: www.v-drumtips.com/roland-vh-13/
    In this video, I introduce my custom e-drum set. These shells are from a Pearl Rhythm Traveller Drum set. The kit has a 2 ply drum-tec Series Mesh Head for the snare and 3 Ply Jobeky heads for toms and kick drum. The triggers inside these shells are my self-made Torque Triggers. They consist of R-Drums Piezos and Trigger Cones, as it is really important for me to have Roland like trigger response. The cymbals are exclusively from Roland. The Bass drum consists the R-Drums RTB Trigger Bar. I use 3 CY-14 as crashes, one CY-12 as a splash, a CY-13 as China and a CY-15 ride cymbal.
    The hi-hat does not really fit in. It is a metallic grey Roland Vh-13. I should have kept my VH-12, as it was black and the response is 100% as accurate as the VH-13s response.My cymbals get a regular treatment with Dr.Keddo, which is the best rubber cleaner for e-drums in my experience.

      yes Justin your rite. it all matches. tho, id like to come up on pieces as i go, like in your set up, just a kick snare and hats, and a module. but i don't know why they have to match, if they didn't match, it would be a true custom kit. ugh, i love e drums, its just so overwhelming with all the different pieces. i am obsessed with electronic drums, tho its a very expensive hobby..

    Most ultimate E kit ever. The detail of the trigger set ups inside the shells is wow. You thought of everything with this kit. If you had to buy from a company. ..all this stuff new....20 grand!

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  7 років тому +1

      Blake Gowan Haha, thanks:) Maybe not 20. R-Drums makes triggers that are not cheap, but I think the whole set new with nice triggers would be 4000€. You should really check the Blackbird kit, the guy built a monster e-drum set for 6k. Check v-drumsticks.com for an article. He is also on UA-cam, it is a huge black kit:)

    Really hard to tell. I bought and sold a lot. Sometimes I bought full kits and sold the parts, but only kept what I need. The current value is around 3500$ I’d say. But I have not paid as much myself. It was also not bought like this in one go, but grew over time.

    Man, that was an awesome, very well put together video about an outstanding, well assembled, sharp looking kit. I've been thinking about making my own electric kit. I bought the very first kit Roland released with mesh heads and loved them. I am not a pro, just love playing drums. After my first child was born I had to sell my Rolands and it killed my soul to do so. Anyway, great video and i love your kit. You did an amazing job.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  6 років тому +1

      Ben Mayo Hey Ben, thanks for you comment. I hope you will get another drum set soon. I think you can have both, kid and kit:D My set was not even that expensive, because I bought it bit by bit and resold other components.

    • @benmayo1630
      @benmayo1630 6 років тому +1

      Vdrum Tips I have 4 kiddos now, but I wholeheartedly intend on having another kit and I'd have to do it a little at a time. My 6 year old son would love them just as much and we could do it together for a little father/son project that we'd both enjoy. Thanks again for the awesome video. It really set that fire off in me that slowly dies down as life starts happening. Playing drums used to be my release after a sucky day at work and I need that back in my life.

  • @Chris119.
    @Chris119. 3 роки тому

    Thats insane. The drum module alone is worth more than my entire kit. I've been building a kit that started out as an Alesis nitro set, slowly adding components of Roland and other brands. My next step is to custom make a snare and floor tom from shells converted from acoustic to electric. I often scour places looking for deals on mesh head triggers and cymbals mostly. Still have a long way to go.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  3 роки тому

    This is the first of your videos that I've seen but I very much like your thoroughness, logical presentation, and attention to detail. I will DEFINITELY be watching your other videos since I've been wanting to make a custom kit like yours. One question I have before venturing into this project is about modules. If you're primarily using the sounds in EZ Drummer, is an expensive module like the TD30 worth it or can you get a similar result from a less expensive module (Roland or other?)

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  6 років тому

      Allen Ash Thanks:) Well I use EZdrummer for recording projects, for practice and jamming I always use the module. EZdrummer does not require much. A Roland TD-9 would be good enough. Superior drummer on the other hand required a better module with positional sensing, if you want to use all features. So it depends on what you want to do. My reason for the TD-30 is positional sensing, the huge number of outputs, the sound editing features and the volume sliders. But I would be happy with an old TD-20X too. It is a question of need. I NEED a TD-20X for what I am doing, but I WANT the TD-30:)

      "does it djent" is the new "that's so punk" and it's literally the lamest thing ever. Why do people constantly feel the need to associate themselves with some pseudo-counter-culture sub-genre? It's like a mating call for people who want their favourite little niche to be taken seriously, when it pretty much already is taken seriously. Irrelevantly mentioning it on everything you can is only doing damage.

      Uh, I think it's a joke. Yeah, it's a joke. Ukulele videos, does it djent? Banjo, accordion, guy tapping on the table, does it djent? It's a joke. Lighten up already. I do admire your spirit though. It's very,... punk.

    Hey VDrum. Your videos are amazing. This conversion is amazing. I have a question. I'm a Pearl e-Pro user and I'm going to give this away to a friend and get a custom kit made and start over.
    So, my question is, if you can make up a dream setup without DIY. What setup would you use? What Snare, Kick, and Tom triggers would you use as well as cymbals and module? It's hard to go through so many videos on one specific thing. I'd rather ask a pro like you :).
    Thanks!

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  7 років тому +2

      Depends on what you define as DIY. For me DIY means drilling, soldering,... For others, taking a screwdriver means DIY.
      My dream Setup would be a Roland TD-50 with PD-140 Snare, RD-18 Ride, VH-13 Hihat (Black), only CY-15 cymbals as crashed. CY-12, 13 and 14 as splashes, Auxillary Hihat on the right side. Triggers for the Toms, clearly R-Drums RTS. Bass Drum: Wronka Trigger. Pedal (What feels good for you). Mesh Heads: Drum-tec Reel Feel 3 Ply (They are the best meshes) Gear from Gibraltar. The shell set of a nice Pearl or Tama.
      This would be the best of the best:)

    • @jrdn5206
      @jrdn5206 7 років тому +1

      Haha, yes, I meant the screwdriver DIY ;). The click-to-order stuff that you put together :P. I ended up going with all R-Drum triggers, even for the bass drum and Drum-tec Real Feel mesh heads. I'm waiting to see if the Pearl Mimic Pro is worth it and can utilize all the features of Roland cymbals. If not, I might go with Jobeky / Field cymbals and a VH-13 HH. So we'll see!

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  7 років тому

      Jordan Stout Well, if the Mimic Pro struggles with Roland Cymbals, it will mostlikely have bigger problems with Field or Jobeky cymbals. They are not plug and play and require many adjustments.

    Hi guys, awesome video! One question: I have a TDK-20 which is around 7 years old. I believe it needs some maintenance since the sensibility is behaving differently compared to when I first played it. I have read some material talking about replacing the cones, but I could not find anything more precise. Do you guys have something on that? Thanks for the great job and keep on druming!

      I guess it depends on effort vs. convenience. I love DIY projects but my kit has been in limbo for a couple of years now, I can see the appeal of buying a fully ready kit from Roland.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  7 років тому

      Definitely, DIY means effort and sometimes thing doesn't work out. But buying a good trigger and screwing it into a drum shell is not really DIY for me. It is more assembling.

    Althought I use aTD 30 too, I have two questions (being a noob at the technical side of things):
    - How did you manage to have that amount of cymbals on your TD 30?
    - How to get a proper foot splash on a VH 11? In my case it is not responding at all!
    Thanks.

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  7 років тому

      iheartcomps It is promising. I hope it works well in terms of triggering, cause I like the sounds. It has many things that e-drummers wanted for years, such as many inputs (more than TD-30 and 50) a modern screen, many individual outs and so on. It will have a big impact. However, the touch screen is a weakness and it misses positional sensing, but other than that, it would me an option for me too.

    Hi mate! Great video. As I said it's nice to hear your voice. Very pleasant (not that your GF voice was bad, quite the opposite, but you're also great to hear).
    Anyway, I'm really curious about cones. You are using R-Drums cone, even if in your "cheap A2E conversion" video you used a 682Drums orange cone. I am actually using 682Drums since forever (Alesis Mesh-head conversion kit and now cones for my DIY 22x18 bass drum conversion (and in near future all new toms and snare).
    How IYO the two brands compare? Is the 682drums appearing in the "cheap" conversion video accidentally or you imply them to be cheaper and less reliable?
    One last thing that can be of interest: I had severe problems of double triggering on my bass too (2ply 682drums mesh, really elastic). I tried with module settings and I wasn't able to solve them (at least not without being unable to do 16th notes at 140+ bpms due to heavy retriggering suppression). I was almost desperate until I put those noise-dampening foam panels (this one: img.mercatinomusicale.com/p_z/57/31/4003157_1423857892.jpg) all around the inner side of the shell. I made the panels sides press the batter head and cut the exceeding 10cm off the resonant side.
    I did this to suppress the slight noise coming off the drum (I also added a circle-cutted dampening panel glued inside the resonant head) but it accidentally ended up eliminating ALL double triggering issues. The batter head seems muffled in terms of rebounce (much more realistic) and the wild triggering went totally away, no matter how low I set my retrigger parameter. This seem to be a very cheap and effective solution to the problem.
    Sadly I didn't took shots of the process, but I can make some photos of the finished result, if you want.
    I'm really happy with the result: at 170bpms I don't get a single double stroke. That's also where my feet begin to fail... :D

    • @Vdrumtips1
      @Vdrumtips1  7 років тому +1

      Thank you:)
      The cones from 682 drums are too soft and do not move fast enough. The foam has to have a quick response. But this is only important for High-end modules.
      The 682 mesh heads are not good. I tested them once and they are too stretchy. No wonder that you had too much rebound.
      I like the DIY improvisation, but the inner perfectionist inside of me wants to have all perfect:) But I would like to see what you have built.

    6:34 I think it should be possible to replace the 9000's chain drive with a Sonor Perfect Balance strap www.thomann.de/ie/sonor_perfect_balance_pbp_strap.htm : certainly the Perfect Balance is designed so that the strap can be replaced by a standard 5000-style chain, so very probably the reverse is possible too.
