- Amazon Web Services (Web) has a huge global infrastructure, with millions of resources used by customers all over the world. As you’re building and deploying your own applications, how do you ensure that your resources are isolated from everything else out there?
An Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) is effectively your own private network within AWS. This is what separates your resources from everything else. In this video, I’ll provide an overview of networking basics in AWS (VPC, subnets, internet gateway), dig into some detail about CIDR notation and how IP addressing works within a VPC, and wrap up with a brief discussion of network access control lists (ACLs) and security groups.

Thank you so much for the clear explanations and analogies in this video. I'm a Database Administrator so I'm mainly looking for content about SQL Server on ec2 instances and rds.
Hi Lee! Thanks for the nice comment! :) If you haven't already found it, I do have an RDS video that focuses on MS SQL Server (and connecting from SSMS). You might find it helpful: ua-cam.com/video/vp_uulb5phM/v-deo.html.
please more about RDS to SQL Server. Thanks
Hi Legal! I've noted this down--thank you! And if you haven't already found it, I do have a "basics" video about RDS with SQL Server/SSMS that you might find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/vp_uulb5phM/v-deo.html.
Configuring some common apps, like a a 3-tier web app in App Run with public front-end and private back-end (a couple of services talking each other in a private net)

Yay! I'm so glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching! 😊
I would love to see the Gateway family, all of them haha , your videos are great and the way you explain is amazing, specially the order, like, first little explanation, then more complex and the go to the console, live it
Thank you so much, Gio! You're very kind. :) I'll add the Gateway services to my list for future videos. They can be confusing for sure! I DO have a single slide that I've used in some of my courses that summarizes the different flavors of Storage Gateway: docs.google.com/presentation/d/1jIzn9zKatOdNvVlnBWC_nLVCn3WwxLGO_sZZ1x6ZyE8/edit?usp=sharing. Maybe that'll help for now! :)
Such a pleasant voice + high-quality tutorial = thats great, thank you

You are very good. I have been in I.T. since 1990 and with enough sleep and a proper breakfast, I consider myself the best trainer I know. I loved your video. Great analogies, pace, and soothing voice. Top-notch.
John Lee! I'll take this as a huge compliment! 🥰 It takes quite a bit of coffee here too. ☕ Super appreciate the nice comment and support of the channel!
@@TinyTechnicalTutorials My pleasure. I just finished a GRC Audit course. My plan was to start a Qualys Vulnerability Management class and then AWS. Based on your excellent content, I may start AWS sooner than later.
I know this is like asking a Ford car salesperson where I can buy a Chevy, but do you know of anyone online like you teaching Azure? I ask because yesterday at work I learned things have changed and we are going down the Azure road instead of AWS.
Oh wow! Switcheroo! 😊 I actually used to teach Azure, but it's been years, and I don't have any current content. Your best bet is probably something like Udemy, searching for "Azure" and perusing some of the top-rated courses: www.udemy.com/courses/search/?src=ukw&q=azure.
Here on UA-cam, the freeCodeCamp folks are also really good, though it looks like their courses are mostly geared towards certification: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=freecodecamp+azure.
Microsoft also has tons of free training, though I don't personally find it to be super engaging 😁 : learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/azure/
Thank you, you made it very easy for me to understand. i just subscribed
Awesome! Welcome to the channel! :)
Nice explaination really like your voice and the way you easily explain the VPC.
Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful! 🙏🤓🌟
Thanks for the tutorial. You explain it concise enough without leaving the details.
I wish your channel would be big enough until you can't possibly reply to each and every comment anymore
I'm so glad the videos are helpful! I do my best to respond to all the comments, but know I miss a few. I got this one, though! 😊 Thanks for watching! 🤓🌟🙏
Great video! Please keep it up
Thanks so much! I plan to! 🙏🤓🥰
this was such a simple and great tutorial....you should have called it VPC for DUMMIES, with how simply you've explained it.
Awwww...thanks so much! 🙏🤓🌟 As much as I love the "for Dummies" title, I'm pretty sure I'd get in trouble for using it! 🤔
Thanks for such a quality content
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for supporting the channel! 🙏🌟🤓
I've watched so many videos on VPC's and Subnets but none were close to clear as this. Instant Like and Subscribe.
Please keep doing these great videos.
Awwww, shucks! 🥰 Thanks for the nice comment, Siddharth, and welcome to the channel! 😊🙏 Glad it helped.
Great explanation as always. Need more videos on AWS data engineering services
Thanks so much, Sany! I'll add that to my list! 😊
Liked the parking lot explanation :)
Oh, I'm so glad! I found it super helpful when I first learned it so thought I would share. Thanks for the watch/comment!
Helpful! Thanks
No problem! Thanks for watching! 🙏
wow. what a beautiful lecture.
Many thanks, Zeeshan! :)
amazing explanation ❤
Glad you think so! Thanks for watching!! 🤓🙏🌟
Your explanation of VPCs finally clicked with me. I finished an accelerated AWS CCP class last week and trying to prepare for the exam. I'm using WizLabs to take practice tests.. my first test was a 62% i think.... Wizlabs graded it a 92% .. even with over 10 answers wrong. Long story short, I am kind of panicking, but at least I know where I stand!
Yay! 😊 VPCs can be tough to grasp sometimes if you don't have a networking background. I'm so glad the video helped! Good luck with the exam...you got this! 💪
hi .... the part of the parking Example is the best way to explain VPC .... thanks 😀
I'm so glad it helped! Thanks for watching! 🙏🌟😊
very well explained
Thank you so much! :)
Jesus I freaking love you, amazing explanation
LOL!! 😅 I'm so glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching, and for the nice comment! 🙏🌟🤓

Great video
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! 😊
Great tutorial, very nicely explained and good knowledge share. Currently studying for my Cloud Practitioner exam, so this is really useful stuff. Thank you!
That's awesome! :) Glad it helped. Best of luck with the exam! (And no pressure, but I do have a full CCP exam prep course on Udemy if you happen to use them: www.udemy.com/course/aws-certified-cloud-practitioner-master-aws-fundamentals. Cheers!
@@TinyTechnicalTutorials Thank you so much! I will be sure to check your Udemy course out, as I have used courses from Udemy in the past!
@@TinyTechnicalTutorialscan you please provide an updated udemy link? The one provided doesn't seem to work.
Hey Praveen - Sorry for that! Looks like the closing parenthesis got included at the end of that link. Try this one? www.udemy.com/course/aws-certified-cloud-practitioner-master-aws-fundamentals
Thanks!!
You bet! Thanks for watching! 😊
I like the parking lot analogy. Had a question, Can you still route from the Private subnet say to an internal Company network. I assume that wouldn't route thru the internet gateway but maybe some other route. I guess would have to use the nat gateway for that.
Thanks, R! :) To connect your VPC to an internal network, you'd likely want to go with AWS site-to-site VPN through a virtual private gateway. More here, if it helps: docs.aws.amazon.com/vpn/latest/clientvpn-admin/scenario-onprem.html
Brilliant thankyou
Thanks so much! 😊
I really found this useful (and tasty when it comes o CIDR ;)
Haha! I'm so glad! 😊 Thanks for watching!
great explanation:)
Im in middle of aws solution architect
Thanks for the kind words, Michael! 😊 Good luck with your Architect studies! 💪
Awesome video +++++++++++ 🙂
Thanks for watching!! 🙏
Holy shit, this was good! Really well done
Thanks so much, Ted!! Glad it helped! 😊
thank you for speaking clear English's.////

Question: can private VPC communicate with each other? Also the best practice in using VPC. One for per region with many resources or one VPC per "topic" (micro service for example...).
Hi Frederik! 👋 Apologies...I'm super behind on comments! For VPCs to communicate with each other, you can set up VPC peering. I have a short video about that here: ua-cam.com/video/ZFe70EZqU18/v-deo.html.
As far as best practices, there are quite a few things to consider, like how many accounts you have, what resources are common, etc. Here's a good post with various things to think about: stackoverflow.com/questions/63331430/aws-vpc-per-environment-or-single-vpc-with-multiple-subnets-for-different-envir. Hope that helps! 😊
Hi Amber, Your videos are outstanding and by far the best. I'm unable to locate any courses on AWS Advanced Networking on ZTM. Do you have any such plans in the near future on this?
Oh, thanks for the nice comment! 😊 Unfortunately there's nothing for networking on ZTM at the moment, and I'm not currently working on any networking content. Probably the best place to start would be with AWS's training: aws.amazon.com/training/learn-about/advanced-networking/. Or maybe search for some things on Udemy?
@@TinyTechnicalTutorials: Sure, will look into it further. Thanks for the info.
Hello, I find your videos very helpful and more of understanding. I am very new to the IT world and was wondering if you have any other platform where you teach beside UA-cam videos. Regards
I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos, Humayoon! 😊 I do have a couple of AWS courses through Zero to Mastery. Links in the description if you're interested. 🤓
Thank you so much for reaching out and i will definitely look into the sites, @@TinyTechnicalTutorials

Should my connectivity type be public or private when putting the nat gateway on the public subnet? And do I need to allocate an elastic IP to the NAT gateway?
Hi! You can do public or private with a NAT gateway. Public is one that you want to use to connect outbound to the internet (but not accept incoming connections). And then private will let you connect to other VPCs or on-premises resources.
It sounds like you want public. So for connection type, you'd want Public. And then yes, you'll need to allocate an elastic IP for it. Here's a walk-through that might help (scroll down to the "Work with NAT gateways" heading): docs.aws.amazon.com/vpc/latest/userguide/vpc-nat-gateway.html
