if i remember correctly, the authors of haikyuu & kuroko no basket actually were actually good acquaintances/friends, so you'll probably see a lot of similarities between the two while watching, whether it's related to character personalities, relationships, etc.

34:30 i wanna point out about Kuroko's smirk there, it's a nice little indicator that he expected Kagami to be there for a follow-up if he missed (or in this case, when he missed xD), because he knew his own abilities but also knew that Kagami had seen that lack of ability first hand and therefore had the presence of mind to come cover for him, absolutely beautiful characterization for both of them

I really like this anime so I'm glad that you are watching at least the first episode. I will give a quick note that it is a little slow in the beginning since it has to establish the rules that this anime will follow. It is also a mix of shonen with basketball so it is not exactly grounded in reality with some of the characters. However, I highly recommend to continue watching if you enjoy it.

What I loved about Kuroko was the whole "lack of presence" thing on the court, because I used to do that when I played basketball in jr high. I could wait patiently until my defender looked away from me and then quietly and quickly move away before they noticed I was 3-4 steps away from them for an open 8 footer or a soft floater to the big guy under the rim if his guy tried to block me. This manga reminded me of that when I first read it years ago.

Fun facts about their names: Kuroko literally can mean black-child 黒子, but it's also a stagehand in Japanese plays, dressed in all black doing the props in the back. Then Kagami literally translates to fire-god even though it also sounds like the word for mirror 火神. As the episodes go on and you meet more people, I'll drop more fun facts on the naming. It's pretty cool.

It isn't the most polished by any margin, but the emotion, ideologies and pure hype this show brought to the table back then made a lot of sports-anime fans from people who basically have never touched anime before. In manga and anime there is often a sort of stand-by joke character that is described as having "no presence", i.e. someone fading into the background and being treated as invisible most of the time. Kuroko is basically that character as the main character and in a more serious context. His first name, Tetsuya is also extremely common adding to this (though it being spelled with Katakana is a bit out of the ordinary).
The family name "Kuroko" is very uncommon. It is spelled with the characters "black" and "child", with the rest of the "Generation of Miracles" also all having colors in their family names. "Kuroko" is also the term used for stage hands in japanese theater that are dressed in all black so they blend into the black background for certain scenes. E.g. look up famous video called "Matrix Table Tennis" which is from a japanese TV show.
Kagami's family name is spelled as "fire god", but with a different character could mean "mirror", adding to the color and light theme of the series. His first name "Taiga" is meant to evoke the english word "Tiger" in reference to both his ferocious personality and the fact that he used to live in the U.S., but the characters for it literally read as "large ego".

I love Haikyuu dearly but Kuroko No Basket will always gave a very special place in my heart, I grew up watching sports anime (some were even on TV here, it wasnt only the popular shonen) and my first sport anime was a volleyball anime called "Attacker You!" I think, but Kuroko No Basket is the first one that really got me jumping off my seat cheering with the team or crying with them. It's not realistic (though in the manga they give explanations in how it would be possible like it's not super powers it just extremely exaggerated and enhanced) but it still delivers on showing you the greatness of team sports and athletes mental health struggles/dilemmas etc

I'm not typically a sports fan but Kuroko no Basuke I read back a decade ago as it released as a manga. When I first watched Season 1 of the anime, I thought the animation was pretty good, but fairly inconsistent (but honestly it makes me laugh at the proportions sometimes so it's not a total loss lol). KnB is such an inspiring and emotional series. All the characters play off of each other so well + it's a great narrative.
But yeah- really enjoyed this video! Your commentary was fascinating to hear, and it was fun hearing what you thought was gonna happen at points vs what actually happens lol.

I remember that the NBA and Kuroko had a real life partnership in something. I don’t know what it was, but it lead to the Kuroko animator’s creating artwork of Kuroko, Kagami, the Generation of Miracles, and one other character (spoilers) dressed in NBA jerseys. Kuroko was in a San Antonio Spurs Jersey. Emphasizing their teamwork and passes. Kagami was dressed as the Chicago Bulls if I remember correctly.

To be honest, if we talk about anime and basketball, I prefer Slam Dunk, specially now that the 2022 movie already release. Ao Ashi, Days, Captain Tsubasa, Goal FH, Hungry Heart and Giant Killing if we talk about Football (you call it Soccer). The Prince of Tennis is another great sport´s anime. About the net movement is a generated 3D image (CG) combined with 2D techniques.

OH, WOW this is a nice surprise. an early christmas gift if you will 😂 this was my second sports anime after haikyuu. it was shortly after season 1 (season 2 hasn't aired at this time yet) i was getting major post hq withdrawal so i was in need an equally hyped show lol this one's a little bit different than hq, it definitely has the basics and accuracy down but since this is a shounen anime they exaggerated the premise of the sport a little bit so it can cater to its direct demographic but nonetheless it's still a good show with a good plot and great sense of humor. you will also notice a lot of similar voices as a few of the voice actors here voiced a couple of hq characters to. example is hyuga junpei, seirin's captain and he was voiced by asahi's voice actor.
so excited to watch your future reactions! :D

"Can't remember the golden egg's face" - golden egg it's a pretty common saying like "diamond in the rough"
Yes the nets on hoops are cgi (don't recall if all but i'm gonna say most of them) , some anime use cgi to save time from movement animations.

    YESSSSS I AM ALREADY HYPED!!!
12:08 : I would die for that crossover, Coach ToT
I am glad you enjoyed the first episode! Also, I have to mention, if no one did yet, there are 3 seasons, with full 25 episodes each, and some extra episode, 22.5, 41.5 and 75.5, which are backstory specials, not needed to understand the plot, but if you love the characters, you will love those episodes too, also, there is a movie, called Last Game! You should watch it after the 3 seasons and specials! I hope you will be able to find all of these, and you will react to it! I am also glad, you didn't get discouraged by the "unrealistic" aspect of the show, and that you have a great understanding about basketball as well, I bet your reactions will be LIT for this show as well as it was to Haikyuu! I am personally not bothered, when you compare to the two animes to each other, it is perfectly fine. ^^
As for the graphics and animation... for the first season, and a little bit for the second one as well you might will see some not so great visuals, but with time it will be less and less, and the story will carry you on, so when you arrive to the 3rd season, you can witness some really great animation! I believe that it is because for the first season the budget was a bit low, and in the second, they spent a lot of effort for a few specific match (you will see), which is so h-o-t, that even I get hyped to the max, not being a sport freak myself. ^^" But the story itself will be deeper and deeper. Without any major spoiler, I just wanna mention, that in Kuroko, there is a "main theme" for the backstory, and that is to unfold the past of the Generation of Miracles, you will learn a lot about them one by one.
I can't wait for the next episodes! You will see some really good stuff here!
Ps.: I love salty snacks ToT All of your snacks seemed really delicious!

Hey, Coach! So the reason that the members of the Generation of Miracles didn't go all to the same high school was, first, they actually didn't plan to go to different schools but when they realized it, they were sort of glad because they were SOOO powerful that they would crush every team with no effort. They started competing agaist each other instead of competing agaist other teams. One of them (not gonna say who) started to find basketball boring. Imagine them as apex predators, you can only have one per habitat. Hope this helps 😁
