I haven’t read your book yet @Eric_Ybarra, but I thought the schism was actually/mainly the result of political, linguistic, & geographic factors, and theologians only added theological pretexts for it later?

And Regarding the question of whether or not the Pope had the authority to add it to the Creed, the case of Pope Leo III is noteworthy. Among the Popes who opposed the introduction of the Filioque into the Creed before Benedict VIII, Leo III’s opposition was the most emphatic. He clearly did not see himself as authorized to add the phrase to the statement of Faith, regardless of whether or not it was in harmony with the existing Creed or within the scope of his authority as he saw it to do so. Pope Leo publicly declared his opposition to this clause by having the Creed without the Filioque posted prominently on silver plates in St. Peter’s Basilica. Said Leo of the plates, “I, Leo, put these here for the love and protection of the Orthodox faith.” 6 He noted that the Ecumenical Councils that had formulated the Creed, “acted upon divine illumination rather than by human wisdom…and far be it from me to count myself their equal.” 7 Pope Leo III apparently did not hold to the later papal view that popes are above Ecumenical Councils

It was caused by Constantine moving the capital from Rome to Byzantine (renaming it"Constantinople"). If that hadn't happened, there wouldn't be this big schism. But it could be that the price would be the head of the Church (the Roman see) being so much dictated by the empire.
There was 500 years of flourishing after that. The problem started when the Germanics and Franks finally took over Rome in full theologically and wanted the Mainland Greeks out of the Jurisdiction.

But it saddens me that the original unity as a fruit of prolong "Unity" of the One Catholic Church, One God the Eternal Head, One earthy head the Pope the successor of St Peter who according with the prophecy in the Book of Daniel, should be in Rome in full fulfillment of the complete destruction of the militarily powerful army to be the center and headquarter of the spiritually household and pillar of truth, known as the Roman Catholic Church. ❤❤❤❤

@@BarbaPamino Flourishing? Six ecumenical councils were held because the state pushed for heresy through bishops it controlled (excluding the 5th).
Don’t blindly believe what you’re told. Constantine lived in the late 200’s to early 300’s. The Great Schism was around the year 1000.
