I keep coming back. Listened to every album, looked up the random off-album tracks, but this one keeps dragging me back, dragging me in, but it never drags me down. Now I know. An absolute masterwork. Thank you Pup.
Canadian Cold, Canadian Cheer I couldn't spend another winter up here In this desolate fishing town Counting the months as they wear me down Watch over your flock The cracks in the ice will swallow them up The lake needs to eat just like all living things And it's hungriest in the spring Now you know What's eating me Taking hold It was dragging me down It was dragging me down The town is always on alert In the spring they patrol the coast Fearing the worst And no one can seem to accept the fact The lake gives us life and she takes it back Now you know What's eating me Taking hold It was dragging me Down in the valley Where they found the body It was growing cold Now you know What's eating me Taking hold It was dragging me down It was dragging me down Now you know Now you know Now you know What's eating me In the dawn another girl had gone missing Last anyone heard she'd gone out to go fishing The cracks in the lake make a mighty fine grave in the summer thaw
This song leading into Old Wounds is probably the best part of this record. Or maybe it's If This Tour Doesn't Kill you into DVP. I dunno. This record rules. This is probably my favourite track off of it.
I used to think that this song was about a part of Nova Scotia called “The Valley” where a lot of violence and crime happens. The Valley is full of immigrants living in trailers. I’ve recently read about it and it is actually about an old Inuit mythological monster that would eat children called the Qallupituk or something along those lines “couldn’t remember the name.”
This and Dark Days have been my winter anthem since moving to northern Ontario lol. My puny little Ottawa ass ain’t ready for another January in this big frozen crater hole full of Jehovah’s witnesses and fentanyl junkies bruh 💀
What's that goddamn song about the guy and his friends who get warned about the lake and then it eats the guys friends and hes blamed for their murder? Been trying to find it again for years lol. It was lake pontchartrain by ludo ua-cam.com/video/B_0aVtDrfmo/v-deo.html
My band teacher put this on for us and I absolutely love it
you've got a sick band teacher. Hell yeah.
Finding low key bands like this is why i love music. Music is good when you get the chills listening to it
Ryan Lavis Y E S

19 people aren’t accepting that the lake gives us life and takes it back :/
Taken those likes away, so you know!
Nobody's allowed to talk bad about the disappearances anymore.
This song tells a story and it's really interesting.
Very underrated.
This song makes me want to put my head through the drywall, in the best way.
HO YEAH!!!!

"the lake gives us life and she takes it back" chills 🥶
One the best bands to come out of Canada in decades.
Yes, absolutely! I would rank Tegan and Sara first, then PUP second.

I couldn't spend another winter up here
In this desolate fishing town
Counting the months as they wear me down
Watch over your flock
The cracks in the ice will swallow them up
The lake needs to eat just like all living things
And it's hungriest in the spring
Now you know
What's eating me
Taking hold
It was dragging me down
It was dragging me down
The town is always on alert
In the spring they patrol the coast
Fearing the worst
And no one can seem to accept the fact
The lake gives us life and she takes it back
Now you know
What's eating me
Taking hold
It was dragging me
Down in the valley
Where they found the body
It was growing cold
Now you know
What's eating me
Taking hold
It was dragging me down
It was dragging me down
Now you know
Now you know
Now you know
What's eating me
In the dawn another girl had gone missing
Last anyone heard she'd gone out to go fishing
The cracks in the lake make a mighty fine grave in the summer thaw
Thanks!

Guilt trip can be listened to on repeat... So can this one though... I think it may be a tie IMO
tour doesnt kill you into dvp for sure. my first listen i didnt even realize it was a different song
It is indeed an amazing transition but nothing beats the final notes of IF THIS TOUR DOESN'T KILL YOU perfectly melting with the beginning of DVP
this song is pure gold
This whole album was a solid 4.5 outta 5, just amazing
One of my favorite albums everrr
This is a BANGER. underrated
NOW I KNOW how good you are live!
I'm begging this song is used in Yellowjackets season 3...it's seriously perfect IMO.
i live along the great lakes, i totally understand this :(
