It's a series that definitely has many highs and lows in terms of how serious or goofy it can be there's of course the fact that everyone thinks every film is Godzilla versus megalon and then there's the fact that you've got your fans who understand that there's a 1954 or destroy All monsters in there as well Results of the fact that a lot of people in America tend to think that practical effects are goofy unless if it's a film series they like
Ima be honest, id argue the showa era is both horrific and goofy. Like the many examples you gave, people die in horrific ways, and at the same time some really nonsensical stuffs happens. Like megalon whacking his backside while mocking godzilla.
Ok but most of Showa is pretty inherently goofy. Hedorah is just built different. It’s the only Showa film since the original and Raids Again that I’d be fine with considering a straight up horror film.
Theres alot of goofy scenes in most showa films but pretty much most of the movie itself is just pretty much normal things you'd expect from a Godzilla film
....Yeah, it is. However, nearly everything from that era is. The Showa era can be both scary and funny, but I honestly can't take most movies in the era entirely serious. Especially films like KKvG, EHoD, SoG, AMA, GvG, and more. I still love the Showa era though.
pretty sure they mean the later films (before 1975's terror of mechagodzilla) that have notoriously goofy scenes, like godzilla flying, speaking, doing a gravity defying drop-kick, and making his body a magnet, in them
It's more the middle Showa era films, with hella low budget, that are goofy. Hedorah and Gigan are brutal, even if Gigan has low budget. Megalon though....yeah no one can argue that. The two Mechagodzilla films though are violent as Hell and actually have good human stories. That's where the Showa era shines best, I'd argue.
Films like Destroy all monsters or Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla are perfect ways for kids to get into Godzilla. It is goofy. Even though it depicts such violent things, I still can't help but find it a little comedic, only exception is the Godzilla vs Hedorah part, that's just plain nightmare fuel. (Not counting 1954 because I'm pretty sure thats not considered a showa movie)
Godzilla VS Megalon Godzilla Invasion of Astro-Monster Son of Godzilla King Kong VS Godzilla Godzilla VS Hedorah Godzilla VS Gigan And Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla All of these movies take up a pretty sizable chunk of the Showa era, and they all have Godzilla doing something silly or goofy. Proclaiming that the Showa era wasn't goofy is like saying the the Reiwa era was goofy; it just ain't true. Showa had it's serious moments, but so much of it was, in fact, GOOFY.
Showa Godzilla movies are like a popular anime show. It contains plenty of dark elements, but everyone remembers the more goofy moments that eventually get memes. The Showa saga is my second favorite in the Godzilla series of movies (Heisei series being my all time favorite) and it’s a good balance of being entertaining and having plenty of dark moments to remind you that giant monsters realistically are no laughing matter. I’ll admit that Godzilla vs. Megalon is a pretty goofy movie (next to All Monsters Attack/Godzilla’s Revenge though the events of the film never actually happen in universe) but for me and I’d imagine for other fans it’s a guilty pleasure to watch because it’s not trying to take itself seriously and is entertaining to watch. All in all there’s a Godzilla saga made for everyone and that’s honestly the best part about the franchise.
Ye it is definitely not goofy but it is also not childish as some people say because some deaths like the man who shot the other guy is serious and when they all die in that one horrific scene and 1:14
The Showa era IS GOOFY! Seriously though, just because one movie and a couple of scenes weren't goofy, doesn't mean the era itself wasn't goofy at all.
Can I asked were you find most of them because I tried to get one on Amazon and when I got it it was in German and it couldn’t even play. cause I seen one
I think they are refering to invasion of astro monster, son of godzilla, all monsters attack, godzilla vs megalon, godzilla vs gigan, stuff like that. but thats 5 movies out of 15. that dosnt mean shit, the showa era is not goofy at all. if 5 movies mean the showa era is goofy, then that means that every millenuim era movie has awful effects just basing that off godzilla 2000.
Godzilla annihilates Tokyo in the 54 film via radioactive fire. Think about thousands of people burning or suffocating or crushed and the ones that survived ended up with radiation poisoning. Gigantis burns the original Angurius to death. Gaira was a giant cannibalistic monster that ate people. He and his brother were blasted and electrocuted to death.
Yeah but he also danced, flew with his tail, etc but yes a lot of dark shit in showa as well like in D.A.M Godzilla also choked ghidorah to death, I wouldn't say the showa era is goofy but it has an identity crisis
showa era is goofy bc of godzilla doing dumb stuff, etc. but i love showa era and heisei era and etc execpt for shin godzilla, godzilla earth, final wars.

@@nothingatall162most of the time but not all
0:58 this scene actually terrified me as a kid, that scream said it all

Yeah GVH is the best showa movie behind 1954
I love how after every death these this hella casual a$$ music that makes you forget about the horrific death you just witnessed
Don’t forget about all those sad scenes in Godzilla 54
I hate how people act like Godzilla vs Megalon was the only showa film.
there are goofy scenes in godzilla vs the smog monster, godzilla vs gigan, and godzilla vs mechagodzilla too.
Theres alot of goofy scenes in most showa films but pretty much most of the movie itself is just pretty much normal things you'd expect from a Godzilla film
Son of Godzilla, Godzilla vs The Sea Monster and Invasion of Astro Monster:
@XaviHaunts average braindead monsterverse fan
@notreallol-g4c average person who can't accept I'm right:
The only goofy bit about the Showa is the memes, Godzilla flying and drop kicking megalon, Godzilla dancing, and that is it
Fun fact:Godzilla vs Megalon during the van scene, inside it has some inappropriate magazines at the back
0:55 why did he fall like that tho😭
Because that's a dummy and not the real actor ofc
@CrocoDylianVT i know but still😭
The power of T-pose

The Showa era has many memes but it is very dark too
Ultraman leo and ultraseven are for me the darkest showa era series i watched
If I’m being honest, it’s both goofy, terrifying as hell, and down right classic, so it goes either way
Films like Destroy all monsters or Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla are perfect ways for kids to get into Godzilla. It is goofy. Godzilla Vs Hedorah is both equally Terrifying and Goofy. This movie also felt like a fever dream.
don't forget when gigan proceeded and supercalifragilisticoustic slice goji.
I forgot hedorah can do that by just flying holy moly 😮
I think most people just call it goofy because of all the memes but like you can’t really say it is goofy if you have not watched it
Showa is both goofy and scary
0:57 I’m not gonna lie this is goofy 😭🙏
Godzilla VS Megalon
Godzilla Invasion of Astro-Monster
Son of Godzilla
King Kong VS Godzilla
Godzilla VS Hedorah
Godzilla VS Gigan
And Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla
All of these movies take up a pretty sizable chunk of the Showa era, and they all have Godzilla doing something silly or goofy.

-Why the showa era isnt goofy- ❌️
Why Gojira and Godzilla vs. Hedorah isnt goofy ✅️
MAYBE "GOOFY" ISNT THE BEST TERM. ITS LAUGHABLE AND OVER-THE-TOP. STILL AWFUL DOE
People only call it goofy because of the fights even though they were insanely heavy suits so they couldn’t really look good in them
The Showa era had many goofy and dark moments and vs hedorah was no exception
The showa era was peak. All Godzilla's are peak but you know what I mean.
The Showa Era is Balanced
also W Godzilla vs Hedorah, that was one of the first Godzilla movies I ever saw
They risked their lives for a movie
But overall I think they made very cool and classic kajus that will always be remembered
The Showa era was lowkey terrifying. In fact, many of them were qualified as “horror movies” for the time. Godzilla vs Megalon was the only goofy one.
Definitely NOT goofy! As you said, it reeks of horrifying scenes!
Ye it is definitely not goofy but it is also not childish as some people say because some deaths like the man who shot the other guy is serious and when they all die in that one horrific scene and 1:14
It is gooft
Goofy
Remember the cat in that one scene in vs hedorah
The original to Destroy All Monsters, I can see where you’re coming from.
Anything past that, you must be on drugs.
Yep. I no longer consider the shows era goofy
i feel like they mean they cant take the showa era seriously besides 54
I love the fact that you exaggerate what happened, it’s cheesy 70’s VFX, nothing about it is really scary.
Finally someone said It
I'm so tired of people acting like Godzilla vs Megalon is the only movie in the showa era
The Showa era IS GOOFY!
Seriously though, just because one movie and a couple of scenes weren't goofy, doesn't mean the era itself wasn't goofy at all.
The Showa era is goofy
Finally someone make a video about thıs
I got an ad for Godzilla Battle line before this 😑
He dances, drop kicks and flies. How is that not goofy?(Also throughout the shows era the suits get goofier and goofier)
People should ACTUALLY WATCH the Showa films
Can I asked were you find most of them because I tried to get one on Amazon and when I got it it was in German and it couldn’t even play. cause I seen one
@ They’re on Tubi
@SomethingZilla42 thanks because most of the websites I have been on they are said to be sketchy on safari and google
@SomethingZilla42thanks
@Mikemander-n1b and Max as well if you own it and even the first 3 Heisei movies
A few movies being serious does not speak for the entire era. The era is still mostly goofy and comedic. Deal with it!
@@sketters6 that was the point I was trying to make
Doesn’t mean it’s not goofy.
They're still goofy though
Just not entirely
That was still goofy
Most of it is after 1955
My favourite Godzilla era! (Too bad my G fans these days don't even bother to watch it)
It’s always the new gen
Also they had nudity…
Serious Godzilla movies are still better than the silly ones
Showa era is Ethier my 1st or 2nd favorite era (Heisei era on top)
I watched and loved the showa era but the fight scenes up to Godzilla vs Ghidorah were too goofy to take seriously
Gigantis is Showa Godzilla specifically
Yeah but he also danced, flew with his tail, etc but yes a lot of dark shit in showa as well like in D.A.M Godzilla also choked ghidorah to death, I wouldn't say the showa era is goofy but it has an identity crisis
goofy ahh rawr
Whats the song called man
@Horridus_08 Godzilla so fa re may doe
@SomethingZilla42 Arigato gozaimasu!!!!
Goofy
It's both
Bro is defo not goofy also I made a stick man animatoin if you can can you rate it it’s my 3rd animatoin
It is goofy
showa era is goofy bc of godzilla doing dumb stuff, etc. but i love showa era and heisei era and etc execpt for shin godzilla, godzilla earth, final wars.
