  • 🐬Happy Good News Monday!
In this special video, little newborn calf J59 is swimming (and possibly nursing) with her mom J37 Hy’Shqa just after sunset. ⁣

🌊 A new Marine Protected Area was created last week at Kitasu Bay in Kitasoo Xai’xais territorial waters, to ensure the richness of the ocean will continue to feed the community and the coastal ecosystems of the #GreatBearRainforest into the future. There was a celebrated signing & declaration by the hereditary chiefs backed by the @kxguardianwatchmen, band council & community.⁣
⁣Truly a special moment for the Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation, for the BC coast, and for the PNW.⁣

🐬 Our amazing partners @coextinctionfilm brought their incredibly powerful movie to Paris on Friday, selling over 1,200 tickets in a massive theater with a well deserved standing ovation! Saving the #srkw and wild salmon takes massive public support and the legends at @Coextinctionfilm are working hard spreading awareness about the SRKW globally. ⁣

🐟 A 226-acre beachfront property on Whidbey Island was at risk of being sold & developed into 22 big homes and in April, the Whidbey Camano Land Trust bought the property for $9.1 million. Conservation director Ryan Elting said an “emergency acquisition” was needed to protect the site’s 175 acres of forest and 3,500 feet of pristine shoreline. This newly protected property, called the Keystone Preserve, will focus on habitat & marine restoration. The small fish which lay their eggs on beaches like this one, are an important food source for wild salmon, other predators and the whole beautiful ecosystem.⁣

I can imagining the mother orca swimming, then she receive little hits on her tummy by the snout of her daughter, and then swim with her tail raised and squirt a cloud of milk in her hungry daughter's mouth

Excellent filming, but I prefer to hear the whales and the water, not the backround music.

If the video was shot using long lens, there would be no natural sounds.
