No you have to salt it after fleshing, then you wash it and repeat that process as necessary. When you wash use a good soap that cuts grease because racoon is very greasy and fatty
can you get it wet? When i get mine wet it gets fleshy again and then dries into leather again. is that how it is suposed to be? how do you make it water resistant ?
Yes that is how it is supposed to be until it is tanned. After you pull and break the skin it won't feel like that anymore if it gets wet, it will be more of a leather
Ive done 2 deer with that stuff and stretched the hell out of them. Somewhat flexible but like cardboard. Coyote turned out good but ill never use it again.
@@yourcousinvinny7631 Just make sure to cook the brains in water, so there's no bacteria left, if your not wearing gloves. Its great stuff and you can put it on the skin like a paste. Its definitely worth a try.
@@yourcousinvinny7631 You can even try it on something small like rabbits, squirrels to get started. Be careful if yo smoke em they can make you cough lol !!
Thank you so much just shot a ringtail and plan to tan it with this stuff
Absolutely!! If you have any questions please feel free to fine me on Facebook or Instagram and message me I can help ya out.
Thank you!!
So all you did was flesh the animal and wash the hide off to get it clean. And then you out the tanning solution on?

Is the actual step by step process video up yet?
Not yet I haven't had a chance to trap raccoon yet this year we had a blizzard that pushed me off the line but as soon as I can I will!
I might do a step by step with a deer skin and I will explain the process for everything in that video as well

I had to use lots of mink oil

Did you break the hide over some rope or soften it at all?
That'd good, but you could also do the same or better with animal brains rubbed in then stretch the skin until it's dry and soft.
Yes I've never tried it yet but I'm going to eventually give it a try

I'm gonna give it a try next year for sure because I'd like to get into smoking them as well

Hahahahaha that's awesome lol
Gre..he..he..heasy.
Oh yeah super greasy lol
I've been using this product, It's ok I guess. Brain tanning works better, but not every brain is available
You are definitely right it's a great alternative but nothing will ever beat a real brain tan and a smoke
