You are a breath of fresh air, Brother Jesse! UA-cam is FULL of these guys that preach a faith + works salvation. I would watch them and would find myself starting to wonder if they were right because of how intelligent they sound. But, the spirit of discernment would always turn me back the to truth! Faith in Jesus Christ’s finished work on the cross is our only hope! There is NOTHING we can do to earn it. All we can do is TRUST in his atoning blood!
MAYBE John Piper is simply saying that if you do not have the faith that naturally produces some kind of fruit then it is dead. Faith without works is dead. Just a suggestion…. If we trust in Jesus Christ (faith) then we will produce fruit. We don’t produce fruit “in order to be saved” BUT RATHER we produce fruit “BECAUSE WE “ARE SAVED.” Just another suggestion. I might be incorrect on that assumption but I think that may be what he is attempting to get across although he may have not necessarily clarified it for us…I might need to watch that John Piper sermon again to make sure. Never been a Piper fan as I’m not a Calvinist and nor am I convinced of the TULIP and nor do I agree with his position on politics…so I’m NOT biased…js 🤷♂️
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing ; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Eph 2:8-9
@christsavesreadromans1096 Here's the next verse. ''For we are His workmanship created In Christ Jesus FOR good works which He prepared before hand so that we would walk In them.'' Notice It's FOR good works not BY works. Two different things. Also If works save us, then Paul's statement that '' NOT of works least anyone should boast'' would make no sense. It would contradict his last statement. You need to learn how to understand context.
@@mariosangermano you are right! However, do you also remember when Paul said to be careful about biting and devouring one another? ((Galatians 5:15)Your last sentence reminded me of that. Totally get the frustration but we’ve got to be careful. 👍
Sounds like this pastor is the one biting and devouring, and from a place of sheer ignorance of Calvinism. I was an arminiast for the first 20 years of my walk.
In this video, Pastor Jesse Martinez says, “There is no set of circumstances where a person is justified, which means declared righteous, in a good standing in court of God. There is no biblical support that that ever comes by your works.” This is flatly false. In James 2:24 says, "You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone." Jesse’s response to this verse was, “That’s justification before men, not before God. You can see this if you start in James 1:1 as opposed to James 2:14.” First, that response doesn’t even make sense, and I hope all of you following him see that. Imagine what that would mean. James would be saying that we are obedient to Christ so that we are found righteous before men. Moreover, what men? Believers? Nonbelievers? This is heresy folks. We are not, in any way, justified or made righteous before men. In fact, the Bible speaks directly against it. In 1 Corinthians 4:1-4, Paul says, “1This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.” In 1 Thessalonians 2:4, he says, “On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.” In Galatians 1:10 Paul says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Jesus also spoke this idea of justification or righteousness before men. In Luke 16:15, he says, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.” And, in Luke 6:26, Jesus says, “Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.” (see also Matthew 23:5-12) It is impossible to please men and please God (Matthew 6:24). In fact, Jesus says it will be just the opposite. In Matthew 10:22, Jesus tells His disciples, “You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” This applies to all of us. In Matthew 24:9-13, He says, 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” Notice that Jesus indicates that we must persevere in order to be saved. Jesse Martinez teaches otherwise.
But, if we take the bait and go back to James 1 in order to provide context for James 2:24, let’s see what we find. The book begins with an encouragement to persevere. There’s nothing here that looks like any description of what might represent justification before men. In verse 12, we read, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” So, only those who stand the test (persevere) will receive the crown of life…because those are who love Christ. I will return to more passages where Jesus and the apostles define the characteristics of those who love Him (see John 14:15-23, 1 John 5:2). But, it’s of no use to Jesse Martinez, because he believes, “A believer can absolutely 100% fall from truth, grace, become apostate and live a sinful, wicked lifestyle. He is still saved because of his initial faith in Christ.” (He said this in our discussion here: ua-cam.com/video/ng4T6VVymhQ/v-deo.html&lc=Ugw60zewEdxU_JXr1BZ4AaABAg.9guW2JcrAdzA3iYYf1-eJY) This why, in the video above, he also said, “You believe, you receive. You are positionally in Christ and that will never change regardless of how you behave.” Is that true? No. It’s heresy. Hebrews 3:14 says, “14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.” In Hebrews 10:26-27, we see, “26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.” 1 John 2:3-6 is definitive on this topic, "3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did." This is not about righteousness before men. This is about whether or not we are in Christ and He is in us. In 1 John 3:4-10, we see another definitive treatment of this: “4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.” No one who continues to sin knows Him. If you don’t believe that, you’re led astray (by false teacher like Jess Martinez). The reason is because it is impossible for a genuine believer to go on in sin, because the seed of God (the Holy Spirit) dwells in us. This is why Jesus explicitly says (Matthew 7:16-20), “16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” In John 15, Jesus also says, “5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.” IF you remain in Christ, THEN you WILL produce fruit. It’s not optional, because fruit is an outpouring of genuine faith, wherein we have received Christ in our heart, and begin living as a new creation. Jesse tries to say that this is again some kind of judgement before men. But, references to being cut out and burned are identical to other passages where Jesus uses them to indicate damnation (Matthew 3:8-10, Matthew 7:19, Matthew 13:37-42).
@@waynerossiter9962 their argument is they never believed. Which I can accept. Parable of the word. But Jesse takes it to a new level. Not that they aren’t of us. But they are true believers and need no repentance and will enter into heaven as a fornicator and a heretic. Getting close to universalism. He will end up a universalist in 10 years. That’s what the end of his doctrine is. Everybody is saved. Everybody goes to Heaven. My pastor as a kid went that route. Now he has lost his mind. Left Jesus Completely. But listening to Jesse Martinez isntead of Andrew Murray or others like Him who lived a Holy life or just the Bible alone is in itself a curse bc we are trusting in men. Jesse will leave men confused and without Help. He even says deliverance is not of God. We don’t need deliverance. Little does he realize the word salvation also means deliverance from evil Spirits, False teachers are driven by evil spirits. One sign is they are super fat bc they can’t stop eating(not kidding). Not always a rule. But look how fat some of the false teachers get. HUGE!!! And they have a thyroid. And if not food it’s money and things. Nice cars, homes. Etc. Sometimes don’t even have to hear their doctrine.
@@waynerossiter9962Yes, Jesus says "No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other;" (Matthew 6:24) Thank you for sharing the truth. No one can live willfully in sin or have a lust for things like money and be a servant of Christ. Anyone who is not a servant of God, does not love God. Anyone who does not love God will not enter heaven. At this time in my life while writing this I had to look up the verse, but I remembered what Jesus said. You must accept his sacrifice AND not sin against God as much as truly possible. Repenting any time you do sin, meaning your truly sorry and you don't intend to EVER do it again.
How does Piper even have assurance of salvation himself. How does he know he has killed enough sin to get into heaven? I really don’t see how anyone can sit under his teaching. It’s just sad.
If you're honestly asking this question, you know very little about Piper or his teachings and refused to pay attention and/or listen, which is unfortunate, and a product of the erroneous teaching of this video here. Piper does not believe in "killing enough sin to get into heaven," whatsoever. His words were taken out of context and shredded semantically. Piper referenced: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing ; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Eph 2:8-9 To answer your question, Piper has assurance of his salvation because he can see the evidence of his faith in his life. That's the point of his message. Knowing, being assured in your faith. He's not talking about works being the means of entry into heaven, but the essential effect/evidence of faith. You cannot know if your faith is real unless it has produced a transformation in your life. James - "Faith without works is dead." You either have faith or you don't, and how can anyone know? A real transformation of your life. You desire to kill sin and to live selflessly and to love your enemies. Essential evidence. Not the means, but the evidence.
Praise God🙌🏽 Thank you Pastor! with this and the Holy Spirit spoke to me of an answer to my prayer to walk by the Spirit. I have been so conscious with my works lately and feeling drained but this reminds me of what it is to walk by the Spirit which gives us the power to the will of God. I’ve been listening to Pastor John Piper for a season and it helped me build my faith but yes I see where he’s wrong . I know the Spirit of God leads me where I need to be and this is the right time. ❤
Also, I went back and listened to the video very carefully. Piper NEVER ONCE mentioned the cross or the blood. I would have thought that to be important in any discussion of how to go to heaven.
AMEN!! That's a great point. Calvinists are notorious for never mentioning the blood or the cross. I made that point repeatedly to calvinist ministers, and of course they just jump to another verse or topic to deflect it. Liars like to hide in the dark. Calvinism is crafted by liars.
Amen! Whenever people are not sure on clear stuff on the Bible like these I say better just turn your back to it and take a stance on it being heresy. These "gray" areas of faith plus works vain philosophy folks mess up our lives and lead unbelievers eventually to hell. Jesus ALONE, not faith plus works for heaven
Romans 5:1-2 King James Version 5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Yes. Notice what we have access to by faith…and in what do we stand. We are saved by Grace through faith. Without Grace there would be nothing to have faith in. But yes, it’s faith not works lest any should boast
@@BibleLine Thank You Trent and Pastor Jesse Martinez and everyone at BibleLine .Dr Andy Woods is also another Excellent Pastor along with Dr Cucuzza and Dr J B Hixson just to name some EXCELLENT pastors to listen to. This is in addition to the great work being done by BibleLine
According to Piper's own theology, he has disqualified himself from heaven already, since he believes that no heretic can be a "true" believer and go to heaven. Heretics are not only those who maliciously deceive people to lead them to hell. The most well-meaning and respected preacher who says faith alone is not enough to be saved is a heretic because he teaches heresy. (Heresy = doctrine which contradicts the gospel and brings a curse upon the heretic, see Galatians 1:9). When it comes to the gospel, we need to call out heresy when we see it, not out of hate for the confused teacher, but out of zeal for the truth and love for those who are deceived by him.
It’s the ole alone thing. Why add that? Everyone knows it’s a tough doctrine. Can read “For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.” Then can read this “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?” So mix those 2 and you have the truth. Basically we still need to do. We still have to seek mercy and believe and give mercy and love. Abraham still had to put Isaac on the alter before God imputed righteousness to Him. It wasn’t works of the law of Moses. He still followed up and did what God told him to do. What does Jesus tell us to do that James speaks on? And John and Paul and Peter? Something to think about. I would stick with old dudes like Andrew Murray. They do much better than any young pastor
@@minorsingingairhead well can’t preach one and ignore the other. Which is what most do. So people fight. When both are true. It’s called the whole counsel of God(reality) vs being a picker and chooser(heresy). You will find this scenario many times in the word. “Don’t rebuke and fool; rebuke a fool”. Gods calls us to go deep. Deep calls to deep. And in the light we have light. Shallow Christianity is a major issue today. No understanding of basic things of life in God. Nobody even knows the new law we are under. Though it’s taught well over 100 times. And if one preaches the new law you are called Satan and attacked. Much better to read the word a lot. But then will find many online do not read the word and call others heretics. Dangerous game we play. You just condemned Jesus brother James. Who said faith alone won’t save. What is faith without grace? What is faith with an impure heart(no repentance?). New doctrines just confuse
Pastor Jesse. Thank you for clarifying this so well, and very easy to understand, and backed by scripture. I Subscribed to your channel just now. Thank you.
I hope that your subscribing was not based on this video. Jesse is in danger of being a false witness who sows discord among brethren in addition to being one of those people Peter warns about in 2nd Peter 3:16 by misappropiating Romans in this video, it sure did seem to tickle some ears though.
That's awesome Cindy! Pastor Jesse understands God's grace, piper doesn't. It's that simple. Praise Jesus for saving us. Blessed be Your Holy Name Lord.
I just started watching you and didn’t know there was such a thing as Calvinism. I have had most of my church experiences in an independent fundamental Baptist church (been out of it at least 25yrs now) and recently God has been showing and teaching me things and this is one of them. I’ve been always struggling with my Salvation (trying to work it out with fear and trembling literally) thinking there was something wrong with me and essentially not witnessing because of the confusion. I didn’t realize the slight differences and variations in the teachings that have Calvinism sprinkled in. I’ll be honest, I feel a little- almost scared to come face to face with the possibility that I’ve been learning this wrong my entire adult life! But I do trust God so He will, and is sorting it out for me:)!! Thank you for your videos!
One more thought… doesn’t it seem realistic to believe that if someone continues to purposely live in sin after believing in Christ as Savior, that it’s possible that that person doesn’t really believe..? As I type this question out I’m thinking maybe that’s none of our business anyway…
@@freenbnmeA person is sealed with the Holy Spirit the MOMENT they put their faith in Jesus Christ alone. They are eternally saved. They couldn’t go to hell even if they wanted to because they are in Christ’s hand, which is in the Father’s hand.
The reason why he HAS to say we are justified by faith alone is because even Piper cannot deny scripture. He can aprinkle his own interpretation on it but you cannot deny Gods word!
Calvinists have to use biblical concepts like "faith alone" while denying the truth at the same time. "Salvation by faith alone" has no meaning given the reformed theological framework.
@@BibleLine I'm confused reading this thread.. imagine what it's like for a new believer! Are we saved by our faith in Jesus Christ alone or not? And if we are then why do so many Christians both believe and teach the opposite??
Just recently discovered this channel. May God Bless you for the Biblical and simple way you address the topics you respond to. The mind blowing thing about Christianity is how simple it is. Yet we’re so lazy we’ll inhale the garbage of an “educated” man as Gospel while dust collects on the top of all the answers we’d ever need on our night stands.
Great Video... it is truly Amazing of Piper and many many more pastors like piper, that truly has a lack of "Faith" ... Without faith it's impossible to please Him.... ❤❤❤
Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
So, how do we make sense of all the passages where Paul says we are saved by faith, and not works? Every place Paul talks about us being saved through faith, and not by works, he is explicitly talking about the works of the law (i.e. the 1st Covenant and the laws of Moses). Paul was trying to knock down those who would Judaize the faith. These false teachers were forcing Jewish law on Christian gentiles, holding that, once we meet Christ in faith, the Old Covenant legalism still applies. This is clearly seen in places like Romans 3:21-31, Galatians 2:15-16 (actually the whole chapter), Galatians 3:1-14 (again, pretty much the whole chapter). The Old Covenant (and the Law) is dead (Hebrews 8:13, 10:1-18). To be sure, we are saved by grace, through faith (Ephesians 2:8). There is only one propitiation for our sin, and that is the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross (Romans 3:25, and notice again, it is received by faith). Obviously, many other passages also say this (John 3:15, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:10, Galatians 2:16, etc). Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for all sin (John 1:29, 3:16-18, 1 Timothy 2:4-5, 4:10, Titus 2:11, 1 John 2:2, etc.). 3. If someone comes to genuine faith, they are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15), they are given a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26-27), the are sealed by the Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:22 and 5:5, Ephesians 1:13), and they have repented of their sins (which means to turn away…i.e., change behavior). I will be careful here not to use the word “works.” This is not about following the Old Covenant laws of the Jews. But, we WILL bear fruit, in the form of the fruits of the spirit. The Bible actually teaches that obedience to Christ is our proof that we love and trust Him (John 8:31, John 14:15, John 17:6 and of course, places like Hebrews 11 and James 2:24). Obedience is also our proof that we belong to Him. Failure to produce fruit indicates that we are not in Christ, and He is not in us. (Matthew 3:8, John 15:1-14, 1 John 2:3-6, 1 John 3:4-10). Once we understand this, the full assembly of his writings make more sense. Paul also clearly understands that no one can be saved by their works, because all are sinners and fall short (Romans 3:23, Romans 4:4-5). I think all Christians are in agreement here. Jesus fulfills, completes, and perfects the law (Matthew 5:20-again, from verse 5:19 to 5:48, we see the requirement is impossible to us, but accomplished through Jesus). The same Paul who labors over the inability for works to save us also tells us to work out a faith with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12-13) and to run the race so as not to be disqualified (1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Philippians 3:10-14). The author of Hebrews says the same (Hebrews 12:1-12). (notice also Romans 1:5…obedience).
I'll at least give Piper credit for one thing. Whereas most Calvinists of which he affiliates (MacArthur, et. al.) craftily hide their works backloading, at least he's willing to outright say that he believes "you don't get into heaven by faith alone". I think there's another audio clip where he pretty much admits that someone "cannot know" this side of heaven that they're in the elect and must continually examine their life to see if they're persevering. But honestly wrong is still wrong.

If you think Calvinism teaches a works based salvation and that Is what John MacArthur teaches, then you are truly ignorant of Calvinism and John MacArthur. Let's talk.
Looking to our good works either for salvation or “proof” of our salvation always results in one of two things. Self righteousness, or despair. The gospel brings peace and joy
I grew up Southern Baptist. I don't think Piper is Southern Baptist, but I personally blame the Southern Baptist for letting Calvinism grow and be accepted as a non-issue. We don't accept Catholics, Mormons, JW, etc., why do we accept Calvinist? It is an major issue with major consequences to the Gospel. In fact, there is no Gospel in Calvinism because Christ dying for you isn't good news because you don't know if he died for you or not. The only good news is if you're elect and looking at your life to find enough evidence that you are one of the elect.
Calvinism is probably the largest and most ferocious of heresies today. It makes out God to be a monster. It is nothing but bad news. Thank you for the good words. - Trent
@HowAboutThat224 Agreed! I know MANY "Southern Baptists" (who are not Calvinists), but, who don't see any issue allowing Calvinism to be taught under the same roof as the TRUTH. Most compromise when it comes down to 💲
@@Freed98 you shouldn’t believe something to be true just because it’s old. Catholics use that argument all the time. Calvinism isn’t biblical, but you’re going to have to pray about that and figure it out for yourself.
@@BibleLine BrotherTrent, imagine this, you own a company and a person comes asking for a job. You give him an application and tell him to go home, fill it out, get fingerprinted and return on Monday morning at 8am. So the guy shows up on Monday at 8am and wants to immediately begin working, you ask for the application and the other requirements, but he says " you told me to be here on Monday morning at 8, I'm here." You reply " yes I did say that, but I said other things too". Like the hypothetical requirements for employment in this analogy, the Bible says multiple things about salvation, it says other things too. There are cost verses and benefit verses, so to speak. Like I said to you in previous messages , most gravitate to one side to the exclusion of the other. And they will only quote one set.. But they're both in there and they're both true. And they don't contradict. Listen Brother, GOD has given me a love for the souls of men, this is why I'm persistent in replying to Pastor Jesse's teaching. I believe it is very dangerous. Please guys, fast and pray and seek GOD about the matter. You will have to give an account if anyone is led astray and ends up perishing.
I sat under a pastor in my early Christian life who preached like this, and it totally confused me. It took me years to nail down my assurance if sakvation.
Brother I like the way you clearly explain justification . I believe our beautiful Savior is using you, this channel, to reach those in bondage to false teaching that is dangerous. God bless you all for your heart and compassion AND passion to preach the truth.
@@waynerossiter9962 THe scriptures you pasted from Matthew to make your point about works seem to have you confused. Why would Jesus tells us MANY times , those who believe in Him will have eternal life and never perish? But then in Matthew He says those who stand firm or persevere will be saved? Contradiction? No. Context is everything. Jesus is talking about the end times in tribulation. Saved is NOT salvation of the soul in those verses, but deliverance . Where in John 3 does Jesus tells people to persevere to be saved, salvation of the soul, to enter heaven? John 3 is the ONLY chapter in the bible that explains how we are saved. In fact, Jesus repeats this FOUR times for those who teach something false. He knew that the true gospel would be perverted into Jesus plus us equals getting saved. If you think anything you do helps you get into heaven, you may want to consider the people who thought the same as you in Matthew 7:21. They did many things for the Lord. He said, " I never knew you" He said they were workers of iniquity. Salvation is being BORN AGAIN. We are new creatures the MOMENT we place our faith and trust in Jesus , Ephesians 1 , 1 John 5. Salvation is NOT a reward for perseverance , obedience, or anything WE DO. You limit the power of God to save, and to finish what he started in you when you PUT your efforts in the process. Jesse has the correct gospel. We are saved, justified, BY GRACE through faith, not works so no man can brag. We don't get bragging rights. We deserve hell, and death. But Gods mercy enables us to be with Him because OF THE BLOOD OF CHRIST.
You are my new favorite preacher to listen to. ❤ Thank you for making the salvation message as simple as it is. I have heardvso many people put such a heavy burden on those who wish to believe, but walk away because there is no way they can live a flawless life.
Thank you. Salvation is plain and simple, and we should not complicate it! Salvation is free! Serving the Lord should not feel like a yoke of bondage, but we should serve out of love and because of what Christ has done for us. - Trent

God bless you Pastor Martinez for defending the true Gospel! John Piper believes in a type of Calvinism known as "Perfectionism", which teaches that to be saved you must be "perfected" in Christ. How does Perfectionism teach that this occurs? It's a three-step process: - Justification - Freed from the "Penalty" of sin - Sanctification - Freed from the "Power" of sin - Glorification - Freed from the "Presence" of sin In the false gospel of Perfectionism, it's further taught: - Justification, the "first work" is achieved through "faith in Christ alone" - Sanctification, the "second work", is the sinner cooperating with Jesus to gain the mastery over sin - Glorification, the "final work", is the reward given to the believer at Christ second coming, for the results of the first and second work combined In Perfectionism, these "three works" together, that is in aggregate (in other words at the end of the process) equal "salvation" (in quotes because this is a false salvation of a false gospel). This is why Piper can say both "I am justified by faith alone", and "Salvation is not by faith alone", in his false gospel, this is a true statement.
Amen Brother, Deuteronomy 28, God will bless you for your obedience, one of the essential doctrines taught in the bible, without knowing this, you simply can not understand the word. If we believe Deuteronomy 28, this should clear up any debate about Baptism, Baptism is a command from God, its not mans good works, obey the command and be blessed. Its really sad our wretched man side, has the need to be right about every detail, where is our faith that God knows what is righteous and good for us. Best Regards God Bless Ed Hoening
That's the problem when you don't rightly divide the word of truth. All these circular reasonings that are so confusing caused such mess in the Body of Christ. Not forgetting that it can damn souls to hell too!
Piper doesn’t make any sense. What about the thief on the cross. He accepted Christ during his last moments. He didn’t have time to do any good works yet Jesus told him, he’d be with Him in Paradise. The gospel is so simple. Thank God for His grace and love.
You're right he did receive grace in his last moments, and then he went on to rebuke the other thief who had blasphemed Christ, confessed his own sin, and honored Christ in front of the bloodthirsty crowd that had gathered, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” He in fact did do the works spoken of in Ephesians 2:10. Some of us only have moments, others have years. Works are the product of salvation not the cause of salvation. Piper is speaking on James 2:14-26, particularly 18-24, the dead faith. We are not saved by faith, we are saved by grace through faith.
He displayed evidence of his faith, i.e. was transformed. That's what Piper is referring to. If your faith is real, you will be transformed and desire to do good works and repent and etc. If there's no evidence like this in your life, you simply don't have faith, even if you say you do.
That was one in a million. Read the entire book of Ephesians, grace was spoken about, in chapter 2, then read to chapter 6, you will then know what, follows grace or what is demanded of by grace. Read Titus 2 : 11 - 15...2 Tim 1 : 9..mark holy calling.
Faith will eventually manifest some level of Godly fruit (could be a tiny amount or large, but fruit at any level nevertheless indicates a real root of faith is there to produce what is from the divine). Any outward fruit vindicates you before man (Book of James). The beginning root of faith (simply trusting in Jesus) vindicates you before God (Romans). The thief next to Jesus is an example of no time to see fruit for man's outward verification, but God immediately sees faith and vindicates the thief. Abraham's justification before God happens in Genesis 15:6. Abraham's justification before man according to James is decades later (Mt. Moriah). Given the possible combinations, of no fruit (by quick death after conversion) or fruit that in one biblical case took decades, a less assumptive approach to young believers or believers who have struggled over the years with lifestyle may be helpful instead of causing doubt in them. This is the one area of caution in being overly occupied with others fruit and questioning whether they are saved or not. A saved convert justified by God may tragically lose their peace about the saving work of Christ in their life, if many around them treat them as an unsaved outsider instead of accepted in the beloved. Then their earthly mental state could worsen instead of improve by being lifted up and ministered to by the body instead of shunned and treated as an unsaved outcast.
"Living like the devil" was exemplified in Jesus' day by the Pharisees who, on the outside, appeared to be righteous and holy and keepers of the Law. Jesus said their father was Satan. This makes JOhn piper the descendent and brother of those Pharisees.
Satan knows the bible very well. He will use every cunning, crafty and evil deceit and twisting of the scriptures to attack, diminish and limit the work that Jesus Christ did on the cross in atonement for the sins of all; every person who believes in Jesus Christ, not just a limited number of predestined ones. John 3 15-17. Hebrews 10 10. Satan's snare is through man that cannot save, follow the Word of God, not man. Psalm 146 3.
Anything we recieve from God, must be done by a combination of faith and obedience. When the blind man came to Jesus hoping to regain his sight the Lord mixed dirt and spittle, rubbed it on his eyes, and told him to wash in the pool of Saloam. He did so and came again seeing. Now ,did the blind man recieve his sight by doing " works" or was it his faith in action through obedience that gained him his sight ? Salvation is a free gift, but even a free gift must be recieved in order for it to be ours. The word " recieve", in the new testaments original Greek, means " to take hold of" this requires an act of obedience on our part. Because salvation is also being born again a process is involved consisting of our faith in action through obedience. Acts 2:38 is that process.
Saying that a faith without works is dead is not a Calvinist position. Piper is simply restating a truth that both Arminians and Calvinists believe. A faith that does not have fruit is not the kind of faith that saves you. Do you believe? You do well, even the demons believe and shudder. The demons have a form of belief but they don’t have the kind of belief that saves.
Its funny how you guys never use that verse verbatim. It says “You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder!”. It has also been translated as “You believe there is one God”. Is believing there is one God what saves a person? Obviously not and no actual Christian claims that. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Piper isn’t simply saying that a truly saved person will bear fruit, he’s saying that you can go to hell even while being justified. That is completely contrary to the Gospel. If you have 0 good works and you haven’t changed at all as a person after becoming a Christian, then you might not have saving faith. There is a huge difference between that statement and Piper’s idea of “you’ve been justified by faith but now you better work or you’re going to hell”. We don’t work to become saved, we work as a result of being saved.
Salvation has not been offered to Satan nor his demons. Jesus died for human beings. He took a human body . angels don't have bodies . Satan believes that Jesus is God even before sin entered the world through Adam and Eve. God made a promise in genesis 3:15 that He will put an enmity between satan and US ,meaning salvation is for Us and not for demons. James was talking about an active faith of believers once they have been justified(passive faith). Salvation is a free gift Ephesians 2:8-9. No one will be justified by works only by Faith alone . Abraham was saved by BELIEVING +NOTHING in Genesis 15.
@@Donasavedbygrace That is exactly right. I agree with everything you have said. James is saying faith without works is not the kind of faith that can save you. The analogy I used with demons is what the analogy James used in the Bible.
@@ogloc6308 I have no disagreement with you. There is a “belief” that does not save you. That is what Piper is arguing as are you. It’s funny that you are looking for disagreement when there is none. If a person says they have faith and there is no fruit, then that person doesn’t have the kind of faith that saves them. I think you need to go read James again and read it in its full context. James states, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without works is useless? Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did…You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.” James 2:19-24 There is nothing “Calvinist” about this position. It is something both calvinists and arminians have held over the centuries. John and Charles Wesley, Charles Finney and Jonathan Edwards held this view. It seems like this guy likes to divide where no division is necessary.
You’re incorrect. Both Arminians and Calvinists have this backwards, yes. Faith is not qualified in types apart from useless or profitable. A dead faith is a useless faith. It doesn’t save from judgment at the judgment seat of Christ. The faith in Jesus is what gets a person to the judgment seat of Christ, but if they have no works; they will have no rewards. Initial faith plus nothing secures the person’s eternal life. Eternal life is a gift; it is not a reward. Salvation is by faith alone in Christ alone. Rewards are earned by adding to that faith (works). If a person does not have works, it does not mean they aren’t saved into eternal life… it only means they will have a harsher judgment and will receive little reward. See 1 Cor. 3 - Trent
John Piper is a walking contradiction. In a previous sermon he preached that everything we do is ordained by God as we have no free will. He even said if he raised his hand, it was God doing it, and he raised his hand a few times and said God did that. So if God is doing everything we do, how in the world can we pursue holiness or choose to live a spiritual life if we cannot do anything? So in his view it is God who is making you not live a spiritual life.
No wonder Abraham Piper rejected this kind of faith. In fact, I have to give him credit for seeing through this circular nonsense. If only he had been exposed to the true faith, perhaps he could believe.
The tragic is when calvinists misrepresent God and call it biblical, then the closest ones to them turn their backs to God because in that false soteriology of calvinism God hates some people from their birth and He did not send Jesus to die for them
The passage that talks about no one without holiness no one will see the Lord. That passage means that without holiness no one will see the Lord in us .Because it is profitable to men, just like faith without works is dead.
Yes, the way in which we live our lives helps to reach others with the gospel. The works we do profits others. Many people just rip this verse out of context and misuse it. - Trent
I stopped trying to follow his reasoning. BTW, the judgement he's talking about is the great white throne judgment where God will examine his works and the quality of his works will prove he is justified. Of course by that time he would have already spent 1000 years in the kingdom with Jesus. Under his teaching, a person would have to leave the kingdom to go stand with the lost and hopefully God would judge his works to be sufficient to return him to God. All the while Piper says its all by grace. Good luck reconciling his logic.
I thought Piper sounded more like a Roman Catholic by front loading good works on to the Gospel. Maybe he is thinking about converting back to Rome. Perhaps I was not listening correctly but no matter Calvinism and their 5 points as they understand them in their own words is pure HERESY. I like what HowAoutThat224 had to say. I thank God for Excellent Pastors like Jesse Martinez.
@@BibleLine Do you know of a sound church like yours in the Palm Beach Broward County area. The last church I was attending was a Baptist Church affiliated with the Southern Baptist. Albert Mohler spoke at one of the services I attended. I discovered a lot of the church leaders were talking about election and predestination a strange way at least to me. I was not familiar with the acronym TULIP. I now have a good understanding of Calvinism. I think its not just a secondary issue but denies the true Gospel and is to be avoided at all cost.
Catholicism and Calvinism aren't too far off from each other??? As a former RC and a Calvinist, I can tell you with all due respect you should get an education on Roman Catholicism and Calvinism because your ignorance Is palpable. Let's talk.
I have seen a lot of Christians get discouraged by holiness preachers. We should exhort one another to holy living, but we should also not put burdens omn men they cannot carry. If Christ is not central in our preaching then we are off the mark.
He actually claims that he is a seven point calvinist. He should be considered a false teacher by calvinists. I know, I can read the original five points in Dutch!
I agree with piper, i know we will never be completely free of sin as we live in a fallen world and we'te not perfect, but each day should be dying to self and striving woth everything to live and obey God with our heart, soul, mind and strength including our flesh as much as possible, by our fruits people will know if we're genuine, we need to strive to live and conduct ourselves to be holy each day as we are to be am example in our conduct to non believers.
Yes we should but not inorder to prove we're saved. We don't have to convince God whether we're saved or not, he knows and his acceptance of us is based solely upon his promise. When one believes, trusts Jesus Christ as their Saviour they are saved that moment forever, no proof or condition required by God for his promise to be true, you trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour you're saved that moment forever. Works will count for the believer at the judgement seat of Christ, either your works remain or they're burned up, has nothing here to do whether you'll be saved or lost, you're saved. It's your works that are being tried and if they remain you'll receive reward/rewards but if they're burned up you'll receive no rewards. Man sees your works, he wants proof you're saved, a child of God. Faith alone justifies us before God, works shows our faith and justifies us before men.
THIS MINISTRY HAS TO KEEP GOING ! You guys need to stay the way you have been. I was watching an old video from Hank & let me say how much his old videos need to be put out there.
I honestly think some of your arguments are quite intellectually dishonest. I don't assume you've done so maliciously but I saw in a few parts you were misinterpreting Piper's words. Namely, the last section with the 95%. He was obviously speaking hypothetically. I can take some more time to demonstrate to you where I believe you have misunderstood him but let me know first if you're even interested in that as this is my first time watching you so I don't know your policy/procedure. Either way, I encourage you to exercise extreme caution with calling out a brother like this and stoking the flames of needless division in the Church.
I agree. This entire video is needlessly pursuing semantics. Piper is not speaking of works as the actual means of getting into heaven. He's saying that works are the only real evidence of faith that you can see. James says, "Faith without works is dead." Piper's sermon is for the "Christian" asking themselves - "Will I get into heaven?" The answer lies in faith, as he stated so clearly, in faith. But how do you know you have faith? The transformation of your life, resulting in repentance, works, sanctification, etc. These are the things you can objectively see and know here on earth.
Piper is right on justified by faith alone. Good for that. Now... what is the point of heaven? Eternal living there, we were justified to get to heaven by FAITH alone! Piper ADDED works to Gospel and went straight into galatian error of chp 3 and 5. Piper is a calvinist which is heretical, and lordship salvation is legalism and false gospel. They always MIX faith with works FOR proving real faith and going to heaven. Just become roman catholic since you wanna get works involved, Piper. My question for false teachers who add works to prove our salvation or real faith is this: how many works? What sort of works? Where is the line you ain't a real christian in this false soteriology? How much sin is too much sin? How about sins in thoughts that NO PREACHER or man can see? Just keep service and salvation separate and you won't have a problem. Be for right Gospel and stand for righteous living. So simple. Sometimes I wonder if there is gonna bw apostasy in mainline churches because churches preach LEGALISM! Where there is self-righteousness there is NOT power of God to be saved from hellfire and everlasting life in Jesus and no power in Christ Jesus to overcome flesh nature because flesh does not overcome flesh. You are SPOT ON with this, brother. May God open the eyes of calvinists. Keep it up for God's glory and standing for real Gospel!

Justification is by faith alone. Good works come naturally through the nurturing of your faith (reading the Scriptures, praying, worship, communion, practicing virtue)
Agreed, but only if you choose to nurture and add to your faith. This is what 2 Peter 1 speaks of. We ought to add to our faith lest we backslide, forget and fall. We do not believe works are automatic or forced by God in a believer’s life. - Trent
Could be. This is the conclusion I would resort to if God was the god of Calvinism. Nevertheless, I pray his son trusts in Christ alone if never before. - Trent
Matt 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is heaven. Matt 21:43 Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people will produce its fruit. Luke 3:9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. There are other Scripture verses out there that has the same fluidity that Piper is talking about. There has to be evidence 😢
Don’t be sad. John 6:40 “And this is the will of him who sent me, that everyone that seeth the Son, and believeth on him may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” The other scriptures have nothing to do with you so no need to worry. Check out Onorato Diamante for the explanations
What scripture can give our minds something to grasp when it comes to staying strong in the conviction of faith alone? My sentence is worded specifically to avoid the ownership of my power to remain strong but instead focussing on God's word to stir within us a strength.
@@BibleLine verse 15 just blew my mind. "If we know that he hears us in whatever we ask [regarding prayer], we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him" For about 8 months Ive had the exact same idea about prayer. That when we pray, our minds remember that we prayed about that thing. Which means when the prayer is answered, our minds can remember that thing we prayed about and therefore attribute the solution to God. I didn't read this idea first in 1 John, I meditated on the idea of prayer and this idea came to me in thought. Thats wild man
Piper is so wordy and confusing which makes him unbiblical.... 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 : "And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God." Romans 16:17-18: "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple." 2 Corinthians 11:3: "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”
Yes I noticed a little bit of that. If someone really had a trip to heaven and back (or hell), I’m sure the only words from them would be the gospel. Also, it’s just impossible because he doesn’t have his glorified body - nor is he only a spirit; he’s the same dude (Absent from the body, present with the Lord). - Trent
This entire video is needlessly pursuing semantics to stir up views and controversy. You even said you weren't nitpicking and cutting things, but that's exactly what you did. I encourage anyone reading this comment to listen to Piper in full, it's only 5 minutes to listen to him uncut. Piper is not speaking of works as the actual MEANS of getting into heaven. He's saying that works are the ONLY real evidence of faith that you can see. James says, "Faith without works is dead." Piper's sermon is for the "Christian" asking themselves - "Will I get into heaven?" The answer lies in FAITH, as Piper stated so clearly - in FAITH. By grace, through faith. Piper said it very clearly, he does not believe works grant entry into heaven, whatsoever. Piper's sermon is about knowing whether or not you truly have faith, and that you truly believe. The transformation of your life. Repentance, works, sanctification, the pursuit of holiness, etc. These are the things you can objectively see and know here on earth. Thus, they are an "essential" (as Piper put it) piece of evidence for the believer to know they have faith and to be assured. A genuine interest in pleasing the Lord through obedience, a genuine interest produced by faith.
Everything you just said is exactly what this video is refuting. Did you listen to the video? Works aren’t required. Ever, anytime, at all for salvation.
@@basic-decaf essential” piece of evidence” Secondly, you are misconstruing Piper’s words. Piper did not say ““essential” for evidence” he said “necessary for final salvation”. Works, works, works
@@cotydanger4071 Being "born again" means you are born a new being/creature. You are not your old self. So, if there is no detectable difference between who you are before/after "saving faith" - i.e. repentance, change of heart, desire to obey God, etc - you were NOT born again. Now, sure, if you were killed in the instant following salvation by faith, and did not have the opportunity to think about your own sins and repent and etc, this is obviously a difficult question and an impossibly rare occurrence and useless to the conversation. But even if you were to use that as an argument, let's look the thief on the cross, who was born again before his death. It was clear to all around him that he was transformed upon his belief. He instantaneously had a palpable, detectable change of heart. The very same evidence should be seen in any person professing faith. This evidence, again, is not REQUIRED as a MEANS for entry into heaven, this evidence does NOTHING towards saving you, but it is the essential evidence for verifying for yourself whether or not you have saving faith. This is what Piper is talking about. If you have not changed from within, you have not been born again, and ultimately your faith is simply not real. You are confused and saying words which contradict your heart and soul. None of this is a demand for perfection, which is the result of sanctification/death/glorification. And that should make sense - when we are born, we can't speak, nor walk, nor talk yet, but we are STILL a new creature. We are transformed ANEW. "The old ways are passed away.." The transformation of the heart is an effect that is INSEPARABLE from the cause that is saving faith. If you watch Piper in full, this is what he is saying. Grace and faith are the means of salvation, but these things CANNOT be seen. The works, the transformation, the evidence? That CAN be seen. Thus, the evidence of salvation is essential for YOU yourself to understand whether or not your faith is real. And yes, this transformation is ESSENTIAL, not as the means, but as the inseparable effect and evidence of faith. You cannot know if your faith is real otherwise. Anyone can say anything. Anyone can say they believe in Christ, yet simultaneously say that they believe anything is possible. They are confused, because these beliefs contradict each other. Thus, they must look at their life for the palpable evidence for one belief or the other, that's the only way they can know which one they really believe.
@@basic-decaf You wrote a lot when all you had to say is you believe works are required for salvation. When you say some form of work is “essential” whether it is before salvation (as some say) or after salvation (as you say), it’s all the same. “Works are essential for salvation” They are not. Tell me something, I’ve placed my faith solely in Christ and his work alone for salvation. Based on that statement, what would you say about my salvation?
This commentator doesn’t seem to understand scripture very well. John Piper is correct. ““I am the true vine, and My Father is the vine-grower. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He cleans it so that it may bear more fruit.” John 15:1-2 LSB We are saved by faith alone, but what kind of faith is saving faith? A faith that works. For a good tree cannot bear bad fruit. And God also said that you must be perfect as your father in heaven is perfect.
Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Actually we are not saved by faith at all. Please see Ephesians 2:6b and vs7-9. There is obviously much more to our walk with God than just walking through the door, but without His grace, given freely to us, while we were still sinners, there would be nothing to have faith in. 👍 we are saved by grace through faith. We are not saved by faith.
Read John 15:8. Discipleship is NOT salvation. How we live does not determine our position in heaven, all about JESUS! Because a person is saved by grace, through faith in Christ Jesus he or she SHOULD do as God wants here on this earth, not to live in sin, but in God's will in Jesus, but if he or she lives in sin it does not mean he or she is not saved at all. It ONLY means he or she has a problem in some sin and disobedience in works. Nothing else
Yes, it is the object of our faith that saves us. Jesus showed us grace in that he loved us and died for us. We put our faith in HIM. How dare anyone claim anything other than the shed blood of Christ for their sin as a sufficient merit for eternal life. How do I know I’m saved? Christ died for my sins. I believe in Him. Full stop. - Trent
John Piper keeps insisting on "killing sin" which is impossible in this earthly life as our innate sin nature has NOT been eradicated/disabled yet. How can John Piper not see the reality of Romans 7:14-25??!!
I totally agree with you Pastor. This is subtle. This is of the devil! What about Ephesians 2:8-9 and 10. Many argue that those who believe that we are saved by faith alone don’t include verse 10. Ephesians 2:10, “For we are of His workmanship created to do works He intended for us to do…”
Second Corinthians 9:13. Thanks be to God for His UNSPEAKABLE GIFT, ETERNAL LIFE. No one can earn it. Calvinism is double talk. Saved by faith alone, but, Get the but out of there. Acts 16:31. Romans 4:5. But to him that worketh not, but BELIEVETH on Him who JUSTIFIETH the UNGODLY, his faith is counted for righteousness. Just as David describeth the blessedness of the man to whom the Lord imputeth RIGHTEOUSNESS, APART FROM WORKS. The gospel. First Corinthians 15:1-4. Galatians 1:6-9. Though we or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel unto you than that we have preached unto you, LET HIM BE ACCURSED. As we said before, so say I again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received from us, LET HIM BE ACCURSED. Thank you Jesse for exposing them that preach a false gospel of works for salvation, which is a free gift apart from any works. And the GIFT of God is eternal life. The gift is not faith, the GIFT is eternal life. God gives eternal life to them that BELIEVE. John 6:47. God cannot lie. Romans 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for It is the POWER of God unto salvation to EVERYONE THAT BELIEVETH, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. First John 2:2. John 3:18.
I am not a Calvinist. But in all of the hours I have spent trying to weed through the Calvinism debate, I have never ever heard a Calvinist talk about two justifications. Actually, the only group that talks about two justifications, that I am aware of, is Catholicism. Catholics, probably the furthest thing from Calvinism, soteriologically speaking, have initial justification at baptism and final justification if you keep the faith. Again, I am not a calvinist, so maybe your're right, but I would need some proof of that initial/final justification debate in Calvinism.
The false belief that we are saved by works is how cult leaders keep their members working for them out of fear. Men leading men. Follow Jesus Christ only. Psalm 146
Do you really think that anybody today believes the idea "we are saved by works"? Isn't it a strawman argument? But if you mean to say that even obedience to christ is not required for salvation, then you are not in Chtist.
May this comment be for the building of the Church. Praise God for He sent His Son to save us from hell. As long as we believe in Jesus and receive the GIFT which is His Eternal Life. After being saved we need to abide in Jesus and living in our spirit with His Spirit. We must decrease and He must increase in us transforming our mind, emotion and will. As Paul said in Phil 3.13-14 I count NOT myself yet to have laid hold. But one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, i PRESS toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. If we do not do this in the present age, we will still be punish before we go to heaven. Therefore we need to RUN the racecourse to get the REWARD. Gift we just received. But Reward, we need to work(with His abiding) to receive the Reward, the INCORRUPTIBLE CROWN
How can those of us who have died to sin still live in it? No, sir, you can't live a carnal wicked life and be saved. The Bible teaches otherwise over and over. We are saved by grace through faith alone, but the faith that saves is NEVER alone. You will know them by their fruits. A new creation means just that.
20:07 Piper is essentially saying we are saved by faith, but works pay the shipping and handling. It is a hersey and is a distiction without a difference. BTW I actually heard a preacher sereously teach what I just said.
This is common in “Reformed” teaching. It’s clear, to me, that the verses used are often taken out of context. Or, they are twisted to support the TULIP model. Thanks Pastor Jesse for your clear presentation from the Scripture. 🖤❤️🤍💛💚✝️🇮🇱🇺🇸
Years ago I watched this sermon the moment it was uploaded. The first 30 min I would say is fine. Then I was like ~ What ? Did he actually say that ? A few days later an internet explosion happened about this 😂
John 6:65-68 [65]And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. [66]From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. [67]Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? [68]Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
Lord help me. I feel like I opened a can of worms when seeking Christian content on UA-cam. In one video you will hear God Loves You! You are saved through Jesus Christ. The next will be “everyone is going to Hell. We’re all doomed for this sin and that sin. Most Christians are going to hell. This rollercoaster is rough as a Christian. Imagine if you were an unbeliever and seeking this content. Your works are like filthy rags. I am a sinner. I know that I’m in trouble if I had to stand on my own judgement. My only hope is Jesus.
At 9:37 Matthew 3:10 NASB1995 [10] The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

@christsavesreadromans1096 I also suggest you read Galatians chapters 1-3, to understand better the role of works, and the law.
I was an arminiast for the first 20 years of my walk.
that may be so but thankfully we are only responsible for ourselves!
Thank you pastor Jesse for once again speaking the truth in a way anyone can get it. God bless you!!

In this video, Pastor Jesse Martinez says,
“There is no set of circumstances where a person is justified, which means declared righteous, in a good standing in court of God. There is no biblical support that that ever comes by your works.”
This is flatly false. In James 2:24 says, "You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone."
Jesse’s response to this verse was,
“That’s justification before men, not before God. You can see this if you start in James 1:1 as opposed to James 2:14.”
First, that response doesn’t even make sense, and I hope all of you following him see that. Imagine what that would mean. James would be saying that we are obedient to Christ so that we are found righteous before men. Moreover, what men? Believers? Nonbelievers? This is heresy folks. We are not, in any way, justified or made righteous before men. In fact, the Bible speaks directly against it. In 1 Corinthians 4:1-4, Paul says,
“1This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.”
In 1 Thessalonians 2:4, he says, “On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.”
In Galatians 1:10 Paul says, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Jesus also spoke this idea of justification or righteousness before men. In Luke 16:15, he says, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.” And, in Luke 6:26, Jesus says, “Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.” (see also Matthew 23:5-12)
It is impossible to please men and please God (Matthew 6:24). In fact, Jesus says it will be just the opposite. In Matthew 10:22, Jesus tells His disciples, “You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.” This applies to all of us. In Matthew 24:9-13, He says,
9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”
Notice that Jesus indicates that we must persevere in order to be saved.
But, it’s of no use to Jesse Martinez, because he believes,
“A believer can absolutely 100% fall from truth, grace, become apostate and live a sinful, wicked lifestyle. He is still saved because of his initial faith in Christ.” (He said this in our discussion here: ua-cam.com/video/ng4T6VVymhQ/v-deo.html&lc=Ugw60zewEdxU_JXr1BZ4AaABAg.9guW2JcrAdzA3iYYf1-eJY)
This why, in the video above, he also said,
“You believe, you receive. You are positionally in Christ and that will never change regardless of how you behave.”
Is that true? No. It’s heresy.
Hebrews 3:14 says, “14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.”
In Hebrews 10:26-27, we see,
“26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.”
1 John 2:3-6 is definitive on this topic,
"3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did."
This is not about righteousness before men. This is about whether or not we are in Christ and He is in us.
In 1 John 3:4-10, we see another definitive treatment of this:
“4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.”
No one who continues to sin knows Him. If you don’t believe that, you’re led astray (by false teacher like Jess Martinez). The reason is because it is impossible for a genuine believer to go on in sin, because the seed of God (the Holy Spirit) dwells in us. This is why Jesus explicitly says (Matthew 7:16-20),
“16 By their fruit you will recognize them. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”
In John 15, Jesus also says,
“5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.”
IF you remain in Christ, THEN you WILL produce fruit.
Little does he realize the word salvation also means deliverance from evil Spirits,
False teachers are driven by evil spirits.
For you will hate one and love the other;" (Matthew 6:24)
Thank you for sharing the truth.
Keep up your important work BibleLine. Calvinism because of the internet exposing them are already on their knees.
How does Piper even have assurance of salvation himself. How does he know he has killed enough sin to get into heaven? I really don’t see how anyone can sit under his teaching. It’s just sad.
Agreed. That’s exactly right.
- Trent
He doesn’t. Like all Calvin followers.
And this is not your own doing ; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Eph 2:8-9
To answer your question, Piper has assurance of his salvation because he can see the evidence of his faith in his life.

Very well stated. We desire Piper to see the truth!

Can read
“For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.”
Then can read this
“But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?”
So mix those 2 and you have the truth.

Calvinists have to use biblical concepts like "faith alone" while denying the truth at the same time. "Salvation by faith alone" has no meaning given the reformed theological framework.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
In this video, Pastor Jesse Martinez says,
“There is no set of circumstances where a person is justified, which means declared righteous, in a good standing in court of God. There is no biblical support that that ever comes by your works.”

5 But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6 No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray.

You’re right on target! We pray that he gets it right. Maybe he will see this video haha!

If you think Calvinism teaches a works based salvation and that Is what John MacArthur teaches, then you are truly ignorant of Calvinism and John MacArthur. Let's talk.
God bless you bro! It’s encouraging to see people stand for the truth!! And expose people like Piper

Agreed!
I know MANY "Southern Baptists" (who are not Calvinists), but, who don't see any issue allowing Calvinism to be taught under the same roof as the TRUTH.

Well it is what Christian’s have believed for many centuries and it’s biblical that is why it is accepted.
@@Freed98 you shouldn’t believe something to be true just because it’s old. Catholics use that argument all the time. Calvinism isn’t biblical, but you’re going to have to pray about that and figure it out for yourself.

I have always said it has to work for everyone, even for the person who is in prison for life.
Praise God for we are all Brothers and Sisters. Thank God for Pastor John Piper and Pastor Jesse. Praise God for you Brothers and Sisters.

God bless you Pastor Martinez for defending the true Gospel!
John Piper believes in a type of Calvinism known as "Perfectionism", which teaches that to be saved you must be "perfected" in Christ. How does Perfectionism teach that this occurs? It's a three-step process:
- Justification - Freed from the "Penalty" of sin
- Sanctification - Freed from the "Power" of sin
- Glorification - Freed from the "Presence" of sin
In the false gospel of Perfectionism, it's further taught:
- Justification, the "first work" is achieved through "faith in Christ alone"
- Sanctification, the "second work", is the sinner cooperating with Jesus to gain the mastery over sin
- Glorification, the "final work", is the reward given to the believer at Christ second coming, for the results of the first and second work combined
In Perfectionism, these "three works" together, that is in aggregate (in other words at the end of the process) equal "salvation" (in quotes because this is a false salvation of a false gospel).
This is why Piper can say both "I am justified by faith alone", and "Salvation is not by faith alone", in his false gospel, this is a true statement.
James 2:14-17 speaks to what John Piper is speaking about.
And Matthew 25
Thank you pastor Jesse

is a command from God, its not mans good works, obey the command and be blessed.
Its really sad our wretched man side, has the need to be right about every detail, where is our faith that God knows what is righteous and good for us.

Thank you for your CLEAR teaching on the Truth.
Genuine faith is evident by a transformed life and a commitment to live in obedience to God's will. James 2:17, John 8:31-32.
What about the Spirit/ flesh dichotomy which is an ever present reality for every saved person? The Apostle Paul had this!
"Living like the devil" was exemplified in Jesus' day by the Pharisees who, on the outside, appeared to be righteous and holy and keepers of the Law. Jesus said their father was Satan. This makes JOhn piper the descendent and brother of those Pharisees.
Amen! Always pray for discernment when listening to the Word of God being taught.
You see that his faith and his actions were working together and his faith was made complete by what he did…You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.” James 2:19-24
There is nothing “Calvinist” about this position.
See 1 Cor. 3

The tragic is when calvinists misrepresent God and call it biblical, then the closest ones to them turn their backs to God because in that false soteriology of calvinism God hates some people from their birth and He did not send Jesus to die for them
Hallelujah! Nothing but the blood of Jesus ❤

Piper
Exactly
The passage that talks about no one without holiness no one will see the Lord. That passage means that without holiness no one will see the Lord in us .Because it is profitable to men, just like faith without works is dead.
Yes, the way in which we live our lives helps to reach others with the gospel. The works we do profits others. Many people just rip this verse out of context and misuse it.

You need to pray and ask to learn what FAITH and BELIEVING means to God.
Mathew 7:21-23.
Haha! Sadly his logic is unfounded in scripture. Thanks for watching.

What about when Jesus said "go and sin no more unless something worse happens to you" when he healed a person?
We cant ever kill the flesh
I thought Piper sounded more like a Roman Catholic by front loading good works on to the Gospel. Maybe he is thinking about converting back to Rome. Perhaps I was not listening correctly but no matter Calvinism and their 5 points as they understand them in their own words is pure HERESY. I like what HowAoutThat224 had to say. I thank God for Excellent Pastors like Jesse Martinez.
Thank you so much! Catholicism and Calvinism aren’t too far off from each other tbh. Both mix in works some which-a-way.

Remember Me!
Yes!!
I have seen a lot of Christians get discouraged by holiness preachers.
We should exhort one another to holy living, but we should also not put burdens omn men they cannot carry.
If Christ is not central in our preaching then we are off the mark.
John Piper just basically said He was unsaved. A preacher behind the pulpit is not even Saved that’s Sad 😞
I hope he’s saved, but according to what he teaches, you are correct.

Jesse Martinez teaches otherwise.

There is clearly an individual whom Piper states God is only “95%” for. Hypothetical or not; it doesn’t matter. Piper believes this.

@@BibleLine God hardened Pharaoh's heart. So was God 100% for Pharaoh?
It is by grace that you are saved through faith and not of yourself lest that no one can boast. By the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
Well said. Thank you!

Notice that Jesus indicates that we must persevere in order to be saved.
We do not believe works are automatic or forced by God in a believer’s life.

not trying to stir up gossip but i wonder if Piper's Calvinistic ties is probably the reason why his son is a staunch atheist.
Could be. This is the conclusion I would resort to if God was the god of Calvinism. Nevertheless, I pray his son trusts in Christ alone if never before.
- Trent
I would say it definitely plays a major role
Calvinism does nothing but confuse.
It's convoluted.
What scripture can give our minds something to grasp when it comes to staying strong in the conviction of faith alone? My sentence is worded specifically to avoid the ownership of my power to remain strong but instead focussing on God's word to stir within us a strength.
Read Romans chapters 3-5 (king James version) and really mediate on what is being said. Those chapters are awesome for that.

"If we know that he hears us in whatever we ask [regarding prayer], we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him"
For about 8 months Ive had the exact same idea about prayer.
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."
Romans 16:17-18: "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple."
2 Corinthians 11:3: "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”
Solid points. Could you imagine his impact if he got an understanding of the truth!?

Thanks for the comment on tom horn. He boasts a trip to Heaven where the Lord showed a silver scroll. Strange stuff!! What do you think???🤨

@@cotydanger4071 Did you read my comment? Where did I say works were required for salvation, in any capacity?
@@basic-decaf essential” piece of evidence”
Secondly, you are misconstruing Piper’s words.
"The old ways are passed away.."
The transformation of the heart is an effect that is INSEPARABLE from the cause that is saving faith.
You are saved, "by grace trough faith, and not of you're own works, less anyone should boast!"
This commentator doesn’t seem to understand scripture very well. John Piper is correct.
““I am the true vine, and My Father is the vine-grower. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He cleans it so that it may bear more fruit.”
John 15:1-2 LSB
We are saved by faith alone, but what kind of faith is saving faith? A faith that works. For a good tree cannot bear bad fruit. And God also said that you must be perfect as your father in heaven is perfect.
And you believe that to mean salvation is dependent upon one's works?
Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Full stop.

John Piper keeps insisting on "killing sin" which is impossible in this earthly life as our innate sin nature has NOT been eradicated/disabled yet. How can John Piper not see the reality of Romans 7:14-25??!!
could not agree more. what happened to Piper?
I totally agree with you Pastor. This is subtle. This is of the devil! What about Ephesians 2:8-9 and 10. Many argue that those who believe that we are saved by faith alone don’t include verse 10. Ephesians 2:10, “For we are of His workmanship created to do works He intended for us to do…”
Faith with our works is dead. Only a Calvinist can give God all the glory for the works he has worked in us to Will and to do. Faith works ever time.
John 3:18.
Spot on!

"The other side of Calvinism" by Laurence Vance is a great dismantling of calvinism.
Appreciate your work!
Love this video!
We left a church about 18 months ago because the pastor went the way of Piper and MacArthur on this.
the work of God is to BELIEVE in JESUS. john 6:28-29
A few days later an internet explosion happened about this 😂
John 6:65-68
[65]And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Matthew 3:10 NASB1995
[10] The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
